We were wrong to completely shut down the possibility of sandbox mode. Full stop. Our initial argument - that training mode makes for an even higher barrier to entry - makes some behavioral assumptions that many rightly called us out on. Your passionate feedback and sound reasoning, along with a lot of internal conversations around this vision of League as a global sport have made it clear that our concerns only have the potential to become reality if we’re not doing our job. Providing competitive experiences at all levels of play also means we should be providing the right training tools at all levels of play.

damn. Riot finally backpedaled on something.

Give it about a year or so Riot likes to change things OFTEN from what I've seen during my stay

Very Hard Engage2 votes

on the contrary, once riot makes a decision it stays for good. riot never backtracks, they only add or turn it into something else. thats how they avoid their problems.

Have you read the recent Riot post on the homepage titled "Riot Pls: Ranked Pls".

Just Curious.

Jorencice16 votes

Actually dynamic que is much better than when released.

Very Hard Engage23 votes

what if i gave you a flaming turd, made you hold onto it for 4 months and made sure you thoroughly enjoyed it by ensuring you had no other object to hold, just the flaming turd.

then i decided to break out the fire extinguisher.

would you be thrilled now that you are holding a plain turd?

current dynamic queue is still worse, and will never be equal too, seasons 3 ~ 5.

you simply dont remember what it was like in the past seasons.

Spicy Rice11 votes

I remember, and i still prefer dynamic queue. Games feel like the team with the better coordination wins

like it should as a team based game

Troll for Trump3 votes

Teamwork = Win

Premade = More Teamwork. The amount of "teamwork" between premades increases as rank increases.

Premade = Win

That's for the "DynaQ players should win more, because of teamwork"

Aazzlano6 votes

The reality: People get dynamic boosted to Diamond 5, get dumped there and hundreds of players ruin the entire bracket for the rest of the year.

Pika Fox2 votes

Thats not realistic. In order to be boosted to d5, youd at least need to be a high gold player with your duo partner being d1+. Thats not likely, and a high gold isnt all that far off from a d5, and will be learning a lot and needing to play better to get up to that rank, which will happen due to repeatedly playing against better players.

You arent going to boost a bronze skilled player to d5. its not going to happen. Youd need to be a top challenger player to even attempt to do it, as that player will be too big a detriment to the team as a whole.

Dr Poro3 votes

4 D1 players can easily boost a bronze (who goes support) to D5. Yes, they will be a man off, but if you know that your support is shit in advance, you can easily make up for it by taking the vision control job on yourself and just stomping them early enough mid/top lane while bottom goes even, then the mid/top will roam and you will finish games quickly.

You're talking about the old duoQ where you can only have one booster. However, now you can have up to 4 boosters, OR boost up to 4 people at once.

Pika Fox2 votes

getting 4 diamond players to boost you is not realistic.

and again, they wouldnt be able to bring you up to d5. they are, by definition, not good enough to do so, being only 1 rank above. the bronze is too heavy.

support is one of the single most important roles in the game, once you hit high gold or so the support being bad will start ruining and throwing games, as the ADC wont get proper initiation to get snowballing, nor proper peel to stay safe in lane. ESPECIALLY since your grouping up, meaning youll be playing against high gold - plats while youre in silver.

Warlord Zudane1 votes

It's not worth arguing about whether or not it's possible. It happens. People sell it as a service. Why would they do it? Because it's funny (trolling) or they are getting something out of it (paid).

Or are you seriously arguing that 4 Diamond I - Master players could not relatively easily take down 5 bronze-gold champs on smurf accounts? There's a giant skill gap in the middle, top level players are quite a bit better than the average bronze or silver player and still better than the average gold player, which is why they get diamond-master.

Jorencice1 votes

But its EXTREMELY RARE. Out of the 20 plus people i know that play leauge.

1 is challenger 3 are gold 16 are silver.

You seem to forget only 1% of the total population are diamond 1.

The chances of knowing 4 high level diamonds without already being diamond is crazy low.

Warlord Zudane1 votes

You seem to forget that there's more ways to find a player than matching up randomly in game.

Wow, simple search of "lol boosting" came up with a ton of PAID ADVERTISEMENTS for LOL Boosting services (duo or dynamic queue, one offers solo boost but no idea what that is), one even advertising for Challenger people to match with. Just because someone is a good player does not mean they are also going to be 100% following the rules.

Or do you really think that the only way people boost is to literally just ask people on their friends list "Hey, will you boost me up to Diamond 5 for $50?"

Pika Fox1 votes

Sure, it can happen, but even then you wouldnt be able to bring them to high plat, let alone diamond.

And even then, people make it seem like its some epidemic, when in reality there arent enough diamond players in the game for it to really be a major issue. As stated below, the diamond population is slim, and slimmer yet are the ones who will actively boost people just to boost them. Most who smurf do so for fun, and to play with friends/viewers, not boost a specific person.

Youre complaining about a non-issue, really.

Jorencice1 votes

Diamond 5 has always been shit.

Aazzlano1 votes

If you played in Diamond 5 you would notice the difference between this season and the past few.

elon wątroba1 votes

I started playing ranked games in 2nd season. Dynamic queue isn't worse.

Very Hard Engage1 votes

how does it make you feel when you get a 4man who doesnt talk in chat at all, or ping, and then surrenders on you 30minutes in when you are ahead or doing reasonably well and you have the same amount of turrets/inhibs down on both sides.

or

they leave you in the middle of the fight with no intention of telling you otherwise.

you make a good suggestion, 4 of the enemy team is down, you want to push down mid lane and take an inhib. instead your 4 man backs and gives up a free obj. that nonsense doesn't happen at all in soloq, they take it because they want to win.

the mindset of the average player has changed, maybe you like the concept of grouping with your friends in ranked, but i hate the fact that there is less communication now than there has ever been in league.

Jorencice2 votes

Shenanigans. Ive seen solo players not push for an advatage literally thousands of times.

Plus i dont talk to my teammates as it is. Talking isnt needed. A little map awareness on your part goes a long way.

So having a untalkitive 4 man doesnt bother me.

Plus ive been in hundreds of games with 5 solo players and a single word was never typed. It isnt neccasary.

Very Hard Engage1 votes

the difference being i try and take every possible advantage i can to give myself the highest possible chance at winning the game.

you may be content with a lesser chance (lets say 55% probability)which just entails pinging every 6 minutes go to dragon/baron now, but im unsatisfied with anything less than 75%. I will ping every 30 seconds for danger, im on the way, i want you to push this obj now.

i recognize through each and every game the best possible chance at winning and i expect 3 things from my team mates.

  1. they want to win just as much as i do.

  2. they are willing to share their ideas on what they think they should do to win the game

  3. they are willing to cooperate with me and reach a common shared goal. I also give them the same courtosey, IE they ask for assistance, and i go there and help out.

i am absolutley willing to do what you tell me to do, i want to work with you and i believe in this team, its a bleeding shame you stayed silent, told me nothing, and ignored everything i said and did the whole game. whats that we lost this time? just this once? how about you try what im suggesting next time in order to get the win, if for only that reason

pregroups crap all over those above 3 rules. they have no interest in winning, they just have their harambe out with their friends, and they actively ignore anyone not in the group.

soloq was much better for serious play. not saying crap games didnt happen just as often or less, but people actually tried to win. I'm cool if what you want to do is wrong, or you think we should take enemy red and blue over a free baron, thats your call, but for the love of god dont ignore your team mates.

I'm totally satisfied with a loss if it happens in a 5v5 and the enemy team is just outright better than us. I'm not ok with 2 people arguing over what to do and neither conceding their point and joining the other. more often than not, one of them is "just playing for fun" and has no interest in the enemy nexus, they just want to rack up kills and save their abilities for the best possible usage for themselves. and that person is dragging the team down and resulting in the defeat.

Jorencice2 votes

Wow. You must hate 95 percent of players.

Ive only ever been gold 2. So my personal perspective only reaxhs that high.

But i IRL know a challenger/master tier player and even that high in the top 0.3% of the world they rarely ever follow your "3 rules"

Hes been in plenty of games where not a single thing was said (theres alot of chat restricted people that high) and still managed to kill the nexus before 20 minutes.

No one is REQUIRED to talk to you. And honestly listening to random people has lost A HELLLLLLL OF ALOT more games than its won.

elon wątroba1 votes

I have been playing solo most of my games.

Jorencice2 votes

None of that changed the fact that it IS BETTER than when it started.

Plus ive been playing since fucking season 1. I know exactly how the game plays.

And its the same as its ever been.

Join game.

Put a a video on netflix while supporting my adc.

Top lane goes 15/0 and we win or 0/15 and we lose.

Repeat next game.

Nothings changed.

If they have a premade theres about a 90% chance we have a premade thus no one has a advantage.

One thing that I will give to you is I said it before reading the Rito plz thread. But by the end of they day, am I going to benefit from it? no. Are you going to benefit from it? probably no. Who will benefit from it? about 0.1% of the playerbase. so I would conclude it as non existent.

Arkatra1 votes

They did promise the soloq, as a queue next to dynamic queue at the season start. Then they said it'll come in weeks. Weeks turned Months. Then they publised a video "Riot round table" something liek that (That table wasn't even round) where they directly said SoloQ will NOT return.

That's why every promise from riot is so "trusted". An old interview/statement from season start: http://i.imgur.com/9EjHS9g.png

So yea.. Sandbox is coming ... soon.

Be careful though, guys. We don't want to fall for another "we're going to release solo queue in a few weeks" (remember how they stated this on the 1st patch of this season?). Until Riot delivers, I trust my skepticism more than fancy words.

ModCaptainMårvelous10 votes

Holy shit this is so old.

It hasn't exploded because there's no ETA on it. Riot just said "Yeah we'll do it eventually" and, like everything else, it'll come when they clean up other areas such as code and client.

MagicFlyingLlama8 votes

Many months late on the bandwagon there 0-o

Sukishoo4 votes

Why haven't the boards exploded over this?

Clearly because if you read that it says

"That said, being open to the idea doesn’t mean it immediately becomes our top priority. The internal team that would develop this feature is focused on a different project for the foreseeable future, so while we’re saying we want to do it and, one day, we will, that’s the extent of this commitment. "

So they have taken it into consideration for the future but it won't be for some time. So it's not like it's set in stone to happen next year or anything.

This is also from 4 months ago, so it's old.

9kPluzZ4 votes

Your kidding right? This is from 4 months ago, and its not even confirmed they will do it...

Mainly because it's not coming anytime too soon. I'd give it another year or if lucky, 6 months.

So their argument before was, if we gave you a training mode you would become too good for new players to have fun. (You know, because everyone starts out at lvl 30 and doesnt have to grind for about 2 months!) LOL

_ (Quick caveat: when we say sandbox mode, we’re specifically referring to a training mode where players can practice core skills - not a sandbox ‘modify your game in any way’ mode.)_

#They explicitly said it's not a true sanbox.

Monkey D Luffy2 votes

Riot seems to think a training mode and Sandbox mode are the same things, they're obviously completely different and Riot are just trying to hit two birds with one stone, a sandbox mode is exactly what they said they won't be making
