DQs approval rating has dipped to George Bush levels of approval when he was President

According to the YouTube link that Riot created for the DQ round table video. Let that sink in.

But there's something called "Voluntary Response Bias." People with very strong dislikes are more likely to share those opinions than the percent that are satisfied or indifferent. With a simple click on a video, it's easy for people to just "dislike" the video and "vote," whereas the people who are satisfied or don't really care are less likely to submit a response because they really don't care.

tl;dr people are more likely to vote toward something when they don't like it than when they do

The above quoted is nonsense of the highest order.

By that logic, people didn't "really" like "A New Dawn" cinematic.... it was just "Voluntary Response Bias" that it got such a positive reaction. You are presenting an unfalsifiable hypothesis as desperate apologist behavior. The stats don't lie and they are even across every form of media currently available (Riot boards, reddit, twitter of major players, etc.).

Heck, even in the video neither of the non-employees expressed much like for dynamic que, and got there concerns and issues regularly unanswered and sidestepped.

Which just underlines the question: What did it achieve? In short, bloody nothing. In long: All that roundtable was, was a distraction. A bone thrown from atop Riot's ivory tower to sate the masses desires for a response. Like politicians they spoke but never said anything, and made lots of empty statements.

"Voluntary response bias. Voluntary response bias occurs when sample members are self-selected volunteers, as in voluntary samples. An example would be call-in radio shows that solicit audience participation in surveys on controversial topics (abortion, affirmative action, gun control, etc.). The resulting sample tends to overrepresent individuals who have strong opinions."

Yeah, I don't see how it's irrelevant. This is a very accurate situation that is described as self selection.

The people opining are not "random self volunteers", they are the people that play the game on a regular basis. They are the ones most affected by Riot's lies and bad choices.

They are expressing their EXTREME disapproval towards the direction Riot is taking. This is not the same as a small vocal minority shouting over everyone else; This is a large representative sample of what the entirety of the LoL community feels/thinks.

It is completely constant in every single media we have available to us and thus, the data lines up with what I am saying, while completely contradicting what you say. They fucked us, we didn't like it. How much more simple would you like me to make it for you?

Every single media we have available to us except...the League client?

People still log in. People still play. There hasn't been a mass exodus in protest. Why should Riot care about the boards or Reddit or YouTube when their actual game hasn't changed at all?

It takes time for failure to set in... and the writing is already on the wall.

M Dragon141 votes

Where did most of the people even go to find out about the video though? I imagine most people ignore the videos that are on the client. Yes, a small percentage look at them, but not the vast majority. This can easily be seen by how many people log in each day, and the amount of views on each video. The percentage is small.

So, what does this have to do with the argument at hand? Let me explain. When people are dissatisfied, where do they go? Right here, in the board to complain (and other forums/boards). What about the people who are satisfied? They are playing the game. So with that in mind, when the video was released, of course people reacted to it on here. Of the few people who saw the video, those who were satisfied mostly saw the video, then went back to the game, whereas those who were not reacted to it here. Those who were not satisfied and had not seen the video also went here. Those same people would have then watched the video themselves, and being dissatisfied, would have more than likely disliked the video. In other words, there is much more motivation for those who don't like DQ to watch the video in the first place (as the video was made for those people in the first place).

Right here, in the board to complain

Like/Dislike ratio on the video contradicts your flimsy, fallacious premise.

M Dragon141 votes

People that dislike the idea of DQ are more likely to not only watch the video, but react to it by disliking it. That was the whole point of my fucking post. Did you not read it?

Dominick Destine2 votes

I dislike explaining the incredibly obvious but okay; How can people who do not even know what a video contains already have a pre-built bias against said video?

No one went in expecting to get told to 'fuck off'. Your argument is as terrible as "People hate the new Ghostbusters trailer because it has women in it" rather than the reality which is "People hate the new Ghostbusters trailer because it is garbage".

M Dragon142 votes

What? That wasn't even my fucking point. The hell are you talking about? Let me do the TL;DR of my post, since you have an issue with reading and understanding. I said that people who are against DQ HAVE A HIGHER CHANCE OF WATCHING IT. Why? Because they are more likely to go to the boards to complain about it, and guess what's posted everywhere links to the video and how people dislike it and DQ.

When you have a problem with something, in this case DQ, where do you go to voice your problem? The boards. Where do you go to voice that you don't have a problem? Nowhere! Why? because you don't have a fucking problem.

But that is a video specifically for entertainment. The video about DQ was not. It was informative. Who is more likely to watch an informative video about DQ? The people that dislike it.

A New Dawn was meant to entertain us with action and stuff, which why it got a positive reaction. The Roundtable video was delivering bad news of Solo Queue not ever coming back, which many people wanted, which pissed them off a lot, making them more likely to dislike and be more vocal than someone who is satisfied with Dynamic or just doesn't care

Lol :D

Before, it was the "vocal minority" of the boards, now its "Voluntary Response Bias".

Suuuure =)

I wonder what explanation we will hear next. Here is what's the problem with these arguments my friend: Same as there was never ANY proof that what happens on the boards is not representative of the community at large, there is now no proof that VRB is what is happening here.

Vocal minorites and VRB both exist, but if someone claims that a samples response is based on these things, than by the principle of "Onus probandi incumbit ei qui dicit, non ei qui negat", its up to that person to prove that this is the case.

If you can provide that proof, post it. If not, well, thanks for letting us know your opinion.

M Dragon141 votes

Do you not know what selection bias is?

franticFurball1 votes

#AHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!

"Selection bias!"

Thanks, I was waiting for that explanation to show up.

My friend, you are aware that SB does not apply here? Because there is no sample selection...the sample is self-forming!

"Vocal Minority" and "Voluntary Response Bias" can at least theoretically apply in this case, but SB? SELECTION BIAS? WITHOUT A SELECTION PROCESS?

How is that supposed to happen, please, enlighten me.

M Dragon141 votes

The fact I even need to explain this...... Look it up, and educate yourself. I will not do it for you.

franticFurball1 votes

I don't need to look it up my friend. Other than most people who bring statistical terms into these discussion, I actually had to study this stuff, because statistical evaluation of data, and more importantly, evaluation of the QUALITY of said statistics, is quite important in natural science, and that includes molecular biology :D

So yes, its actually you who has to explain how selection bias in a natural sample (aka. a sample that assembles itself) possibly applies.

If you think comments like this...

The fact I even need to explain this...... Look it up, and educate yourself. I will not do it for you.

...suffice in that regard, you are mistaken.

I remember hearing somewhere that in marketing or surveys (or something like that) for every one person you have vocally complaining, you have 100 more who feel the same but never express it.

Maybe true, maybe not, but i think there's a kernel of truth to it.

Its because they are losing players to the extreme. Its pretty simple as that, they were happy to gloat and show how good the game is when it was growing and doing good, but when it does shit and people are obviously leaving, they go silent hoping no one asks, not like they would answer anyways.

I think the thing people miss out on the most is it's accounts being played per day, not individual players.

They have no way of actually measuring players, so if you play 3 different accounts you look like 3 people to them.

He/she is pointing out that stating something doesn't make it factually true. My bet is that there are more dislikes than likes because people just genuinely didn't like the video's contents. SoloQ is super popular, as it has been the staple of this game's competitive atmosphere since the games birth. It's easier to believe that people feel attached to it and therefore dislike news of its demise than to believe that tens of thousands of people who saw that video liked it but didn't feel like clicking like.
