Now that most mana regen is removed, can we change meditation to % max MP instead of % missing MP?

This mastery is almost never taken, and for good reason. At 1,000 mana it restores only 3 mana per second with 5 points in it... **if you're 100% oom... ** That's the real problem with this mastery. If it was % max mana it would be very weak, consistent mana regen. But being % missing mana it's extremely weak inconsistent mana regen. The time champions need mana most is before a mana or mana regen item, especially while stacking tear. During this time meditation is especially weak.

I honestly predict even if it were changed to % max mana it would still be weak and rarely taken, but this could be a good step to make it a semi decent option.

It actually scales nicely with Morello's and is good for mages who build Morello's, and in a lot of cases is better than the 5% damage increase, as a 5% damage increase to someone like a Syndra is completely pointless, as she kills people without it anyways.

3 mana per second looks really bad until you realise that's 15 mana per 5 which at level 18 is equivalent to 75% base MP5 on mid laners. That's pretty decent for a mastery competing with 5% damage increase on low HP targets and would be pretty inappropriate for a mastery that is always turned on.

I just decided to take a look at Ahri and her mana/mana regen values.

At level 1 she has 334 mana. If she is 100% OOM, she will regenerate 5 mana per 5 seconds with Meditation right now. That is equivalent to 83% base MP5 at that point of the game. If you change Meditation to be based on max mana then she has a constant 5 mana per 5 seconds boost at level 1, only increasing (obvs) as the game goes later. That's really huge and it's way more mana than champions are supposed to have early in the game. No mage would ever take the execute mastery again because your extra damage to low targets would be meaningless against an enemy laner who can harass you much more often than you can harass them.

Mages are my favourite champions in every role they're typically seen in (even jungle) but Meditation is a fine mastery and your change would make it beyond broken. Meditation isn't taken mid because it's in competition with a damage mastery that it doesn't outright outclass, and mid laners will take the damage mastery in that case. It's a popular mastery on supports because their early game isn't defined by winning a 1v1 fight and so they can enjoy the mana sustain.

3 mana per second isn't bad

That's at 1,000 max mana if you're 100% OOM.... did you read the thread? At that point you don't even need the mana regen as much.

Don't know why they downvoted this. Bumped ya back up though.

agreed.. its pretty patheic right now.. espcially with zed and yasuo dominating the meta and forcing ever mid lane mage to rushitem 3157 before they can even attempt to get a mana item

I thought we already moved on... Zed is pretty normal and Yasuo is mostly played top. Plus, if you really are losing lane vs and AD Assassin, you can go item 3802 and then item 3157. Not ideal, but you can probably survive.

Then you've just got the old Athene's problem, where those who build more mana always have more mana regen and it's always active and it has to be balanced around always being active and not just giving mages infinite mana.

So, no.

i actually prefer the %missing, it serves as emergency solution and does not contribute to an 'always full mana' issue. The values could certainly be increased though, but that could be said about prettymuch all low tier masteries.

If you want it to be ok early on, then it needs to be flat regen, not based on mana, else any sufficient regen early would scale into alot sustain later once you have more base mana and some mana from items ontop.

You realize that %missing mana regen is better now that people build flat mana instead of regen, right? Larger mana pool = more mana regen.

Meditation is for supports, not mages. Supports don't build mana, they build mana regen.

For most mages at level 1, this gives around 5 mana regeneration per 5 seconds when at 0 mana. That doesn't look that great, but considering the alternative of bonus damage against low-health enemies and it becomes a much harder choice.

If it was based on maximum mana then the only mages who wouldn't take this are those that don't use mana at all. It would be completely insane on any mana-using champion that it would have to get nerfed so hard that no one would take this mastery.

Feels good to me.
