@Meddler: re: the protobelt nerf. You're doing it wrong.

The nerf:

From the pre-season patch hopefully hitting PBE tomorrow: Protobelt Damage taken per additional bolt :: Decreased from 20% >>> 10% AP Ratio :: Decreased from 0.35 to 0.25 Short context: Yep, we agree it's putting out too much damage, which removes what should be more of a damage versus mobility trade off.

How it should have been nerfed instead:

From the pre-season patch hopefully hitting PBE tomorrow: Protobelt Champions can only be damaged by 1 bolt

Why?

Because with the nerf you're using, it's probably STILL going to be too strong in 1 vs 1 scenarios, but now it's going to be absolutely useless as an AoE in teamfights. If you used the 2nd option you could properly target single target and AoE damage and balance both.

Note: I don't have an actual source for this info. It was mentioned to me via discord.

It's silly to me that an item that grants extra mobility needs to have choices about whether you want more damage or more mobility at all. Shouldn't it have one set, clear purpose instead of being four item actives mashed into one?

The problem if you focus it purely on mobility then you need to increase the dash range or the item would be considered trash and never bought...but then you are just upping the potential abuse cases.

That is why there are the damaging rockets- to give the item some positive tradeoff for its shorter dash range and give people an incentive to buy it.

Damage increase from multiple rockets needs to stay. Close-range damage proc is what bounds the item to shorter-range mages. If it wasn't so, it would either be useless, or abused by Lux and the like.

but riots original reasoning for making the item was to give people mobility, not damage.

Maybe those short range mages should be building item 3146 instead, but they don't because PROTOBELT OP

Or maybe because Gunblade is a hybrid item, that even fewer champions can use effectively.

It still gives more AP than Protobelt.

Because it costs 1k gold more.

Burst mages should be able to burst. I see no issue here.

Nah there doing it right, it's so easy to land 7-8 rockets at once. The item is intended to be defensive, but rockets offering engage for champs like sejuani Yea plenty of champions could use it shaco can get right up to you and use it and land 8 rockets without difficulty. TwistedFate so instead of defense it's primarily used for offense and that's why it's getting nerfed.

Riven +item 3152 jk
