Why champion like Malphite Maokai etc got weird ap scaling on their skills?

Like honestly i still trying to figure out things here, every game i played in my life tankers are supposed to the frontline that doesn't do alot of damage , able to tank and put all sort off cc from taunt to stun.

While on league i see that the game itself encourage the players go for more damage wise builds special that tankers kit got some defensive kits that help them during AP build and in same time their cc + AP damage = bust damage that you can't avoid mostly.

And what make me more confused the game want to decrease the damage in the game yet they doing that by giving tankers path for pure damage over their normal tanky build.

And that sames goes for some of divers classes as well, MonkeyKing Nocturne Diana etc divers that got amazing scaling with offensive items more than defensive cause their kit are better with offensive over defensive.

Originally, it was just there so they had options. They wanted there to be some flexibility way back in the day, so tanks would get scalings so they could have the option to take a damage item or one of the Defensive items for carries. Or just go full damage for fun. Which isn't a bad thing, as long as the options are balanced and players actually have choices.

-Side note: For most tanks, it was AP for two reasons. #1 AD bruiser items exist and AP ones really don't. And second, because Auto attacks scale with AD. Giving them AP damage caps their sustained damage.

The problem is, terrible balance. There aren't really much options for anyone anymore.

But i don't think right now it a good thing to leave it like that, Galio Malphite are good example of that.

I understand in season 2 or maybe 3 things like that could work but their ap scaling with damage from runes make things beyond powerful, special seeing a Malphite Q that is point to click that R someone squishy and it done.

What made me laugh harder when they lately changed Zac Sejuani etc ap scaling and tried to force same thing.

In the case of Diana, it's more about what her options are. Simply put she hasn't got ap fighter items. Nocturne on the other hand is actually very good as a bruiser and I think you'll see a lot more people building that way when/if tanks become more prevelant. At the moment however it's cheaper and easier for him to build assassin.

Wukong is a bit different from both Nocturne and Diana. Both of these have no way out once they go in, while Wukong has both engage and disengage, and in team fights and AOE knockup that allows him even more access to the back line while having BC shred their armour. Simply put, he doesn't really NEED the tankiness, he needs the 1 shot.
