Why I personally don't want to climb in ranked.

This post is not to belittle anyone else. I think people who climb ranked ladders in video games have serious dedication to their goals. **TL;DR: In the short term ranked sucks because your LP/MMR is decided off of which team gets most detrimental players, but in the long term your LP/MMR starts to be decided based off your skill. Problem is: I don't want to play tons of games to get the LP/MMR I deserve. **

This is why I don't want to climb ranked ladders in online games. It's because in the short term it's a lottery.

Games are won and lost by -trolls -int feeders -smurfs -poorly matchmade players -1st time players -afks -ragers -flamers -etc.

These kinds of things ruin games, completely skewing which team wins. Winning a 4v5 is insanely hard. Winning with a first time ADC is insanely hard. Winning with an int feeder is nearly impossible. The important part is that both teams get them. Both teams get afks, trolls, int feeders, and everything else I listed.

So whats the problem? The problem is that I don't want to wait for both teams to get them. It's hard for me to explain, so let me just make up an example.

I want to sit down and play 5 games of ranked. Game 1: AFK-Loss Game 2: Rager-Loss Game 3: Win Game 4: Enemy rager-Win Game 5: Loss

I end up with a 40% winrate, even though 2 of those lost games were mostly out of my control. Now I could play 10 more games and continue to play as best as I could. Maybe in those 10 games the amount of detrimental teammates I have and the amount of detrimental teammates the enemy has will balance out, and the 15 total games will be an even measurement of my skill. But I didn't want to play 15 games. I only wanted to play 5. I don't want to sink large amounts of time into something that feels completely out of my control on the scope of 5 games.

You can circumvent this issue by being incredibly good at a video game. If you are a diamond player smurfing in bronze then you will be good enough to win games even with AFKs, even with ragers, and even with trolls, but if you are massively above your elo in skill (E.G. gold skill level playing in high silver), then it will be very hard for you to win games with detrimental teammates.

Basically, I don't want to sink 500 games just to have the number of detrimental teammates I have/the enemy team has to even out so my skill can truly be tested. A short term lottery, long term skill based game just doesn't appeal to me.

I hear Riot purposely places you lower in rank, so you have to climb up. Riot wants the system to make you to play ~100 game to get to your correct 50% WR.

So it sucks for me.

But at the same time, I can't help but think Riot plays favorites. My friend is Plat, no doubt he is better than me. But he was Silver 2 in flex (I was Silver 1 in promos). He played a few games solo and is now Gold 5. Like what the hell Riot. He wasn't carrying in all those games. I know he is Plat, but how the hell does he get such perfect teams. Probably me being a sore loser. But I watched his games, he was fine but he wasn't doing carrying. His entire "randomly balanced" team was just winning every team.

THis is what I have. I get MORE then 50% of my games has Trolls/Feeder/AFKers on my team or Scritpers/Boosters/Smurfs on their team.

Its like I just have bad luck OR riot hates me.

I would agree on first season, but I am not sure I would agree on second season.

Season 6, I was overranked at Silver 4. Season 7, I was underranked at Bronze 4.

I am pretty sure they always place you under your true rank (outside of initial new account). This way you are forced to play up into your proper rank, which may take awhile for people who are not that much better than others.

I have never seen a B5 be replaced at like B3 or anything. They are always stuck at B5 and MMR/themselves don't let them climb.

i dont find what you said about the lottery thing to be true. Even if that does happen every now and then, there are still things for you to improve on.

Some people are just more competitive than others.

I'm not watching that video because I'm pretty sure it doesn't apply to the point I'm making. The point I'm making is that I don't play ranked because I don't want to sink tons of time into something to get a good result. I want a good result in the short term.

i dont find what you said about the lottery thing to be true.

how so?

Even if that does happen every now and then, there are still things for you to improve on.

well yeah, but it's hard to see short term improvement when it's a lottery in the short term. I don't want to play 50 games to learn that I've gotten ever so slightly better at nidalee.

I'm actually super competitive. That's why I mainly play competitive games. TBH I sometime have an issue with being over competitive.

because most games aren't won or loss because of this. -trolls -int feeders -smurfs -poorly matchmade players -1st time players -afks -ragers -flamers -etc.

Games can come down to that when you're stuck at your elo because you can't impact the match more than a normal person in your role could. All of those things do not matter if you're a better player than the elo you're at.

short term improvment is hard in league imo without coaching or something like that. Seeing short term improvement (other than your champion) just isnt going to happen.

I disagree. In my elo, silver, most games have at least one of those.

I agree, except unless you are extremely good at your role/champion, you aren't going to climb at a fast rate (at least not a rate that I find fast).

I agree

I think this really comes down to "I am not patient enough to put up with toxic people in the game over a long period of time just to see how I rank against a bunch of people I don't care about"

Thank you for your time and being a reasonable person when responding to me.

is pretty on point lol. Although I dont completely agree with it, its still pretty true

Yep this is Ranked currently.

This is not limited to league of legends though. I keep trying really hard to climb in OW but I always fail because it never seems like the outcome is in my hands.

I used to pay ranked when I was brand new and I ruined it for everyone and dropped to B5 and then played norms for maybe like half a year and just started playing ranked again and Im slowly fixing my winrate and am now getting placed with people way above me in ranks because of my MMR. I gain 22-25 LP per win and lose 15-18 in a lose so even if my winrate isnt the best the system knows I dont belong at my rank. Its not rigged man the whole thing is based on your skill and eventually your skill caps and you will stay the same ranked for a very long time. How else could right make the system? This is the best they can do man. Also you have 1 win in ranked so I don't think your judgement is accurate

I don't think you really read my post.

Its not rigged man the whole thing is based on your skill and eventually your skill caps and you will stay the same ranked for a very long time.

I never said it was rigged, I just said that I don't want to sink hundreds of games into playing just to figure out my spot on the ladder. I don't think the ladder is rigged and I don't think riot can do anything to make it better. The issue with short term games being a lottery exists in more games than just league of legends.

How else could right make the system? This is the best they can do man.

I don't think riot could make the system any better. That's why I didn't blame them, or even really mention anything specific to LoL other than LP and some LoL rank names. The most recent issue I've had with trying to climb in ranked was in OW, where I faced these exact same issues.

Also you have 1 win in ranked so I don't think your judgement is accurate

Well ackhtuyally I have about 50 ranked games, but only 1 is shown because I've only played 1 this season. 50 games isn't a ton, but I've also played a fair bit of ranked in OW, Awesomenauts (it's a sidescrolling MOBA), and some other random games. It's all enough to understand that it's a short term lottery and a long term skill based experience.

I just don't want to put in all the time and effort for the long term.

Like everything. There's no shortcut. Only dedication. And Legacy.
