Won 5 in a row last night, oh well, gotta lose 4-5 this morning, amirite.

It's not even solo q, because I lose my mind playing that.. but flex q and it's the same shit for the 99999th time. Win few games, well you gotta lose the same amount of games too. Yesterday played really well, had few feeding teammates but few good too so we're able to carry, but today every lane loses and god forbid you play something out of meta that can't insta kill everyone, you just lose. But hey riot is a small indie company, I get it.

The thing i hate most about the 50% winrate algorithm is that often your win-streak leads to a promos, which by then you're going to get fucked over by the system and lose at the absolute worst time (promos.)

As you win, you start to get lower rank teammates and higher rank enemies, and vice versa.

This is Riot's sneaky way of keeping everyone at 50%. Why they want everyone at 50, idk.

TheCodeisCupCake1 votes

That is the single most retarded thing I've ever heard of. You get punished for being good, and rewarded for being bad? What the fuck.

Unstoppable Monk2 votes

it also swings you so hard into the ground you start going under 50% after you hit like 51-52%

80% of my games became hellscapes filled with people who should have sticked to normals from a statistical viewpoint. There is nothing good that is brought to ranked from someone with little champion mastery / experience, trying out ranked without knowing their own role, and generally drag out games by 10-20 minutes due to a no-surrender mentality that really shouldn't exist in a competitive queue where you need to give up on extremely low chances of winning that just result in statistics that might end up haunting people with toxicity over a game that shouldn't have been played out.

Honestly the system would work if the players actually did, but they don't.

So much this. Feels like going on a winstreak is unlucky as hell now. U win 5 games in a row bam they give u the worst players uve ever had the misfortune of laying ur eyes on in game 6. I swear botlane will go 0/10 combined by 5 mins. Mid will pick yasuo and go 0/5. Jg clueless. u know maybe if they actually went "hey your winning games... lets give you BETTER teammates and BETTER opponents"

runes for one. Passive damage is damage added to a champion without requiring a condition or with an easily obtained condition

another example is for champions like kog maw(though fairly balanced) who gets %hp damage as an on-hit bonus

Does not being able to carry 4 bads mean you shouldn't climb? And I'm not just talking 1 or 2 feeders. When 3+ feed on ur team before 8 min, it is really really difficult to carry, regardless of rank. Hell im garbage Silver 2 player and Im climbing with positive WR, but even I get terrible teammates after a winstreak. I know im a better playet than my rank because I can usually dumpster my game if my teammates dont int but if they do its uphill battle. People say "play consistent and ull climb" but how can u play consistently if Riot wants u to lose by giving u 4 sandbags to play with?

But I've won them? I've won most if not all of my Renekton games in the past 15, and my team has been performing much worse than I have. If you think that my valid criticism of the matchmaking algorithm based on personal experience and anecdotal evidence is mere "paranoia", then you're straight up delusional.

I'm not saying that I'm mad that streaks end. This is basic statistical theory and anyone with half a brain will realize that you must lose after you win a lot. I'm pissed at the fact that when you lose a streak, it is often (more than 60% of the time) in a horribly lopsided fashion. The losing game usually isn't even close in terms of net skill. You'll typically get 2 first time ranked players and a duo on a hard losing streak vs a strong duo, a smurf, and an average player. The game will end in 15 mins with the score being like 3-15 with you having 100% KP. It's pretty obvious that the matchmaking algorithm WANTS to end your streak when it sees you're on one. It will throw you into an impossible game. Worst of all, this will happen in promos and you'll end up gaining 70 lp and losing 90 in the course of a day.

This algorithm is sickening, especially when you consider that first time ranked accounts do placements in high silver/low gold. How is this a good learning and playing environment?

Uhhhhh.... WHEN did I accuse you of stalking? I accused you of being HARD BIASED against me based on your previous posts against me. And its evident that your bias against me is clouding your judgment.

You still think it's a coincidence that every losing streak after a winstreak features a horribly lopsided game in terms of ur teammates' rank/mmr/recent performance? Just go to some op.gg's and click around on peoples' profiles. Find when they went on a winstreak then find the point where they lost. Study that losing game and I GUARANTEE that you will find something that is clearly shady as fuck in terms of team balance. A good example would be to find the op.gg of a booster, then find their first loss. I guarantee their team will be absolute dogshit in that losing game, and the other team will be higher in terms of net mmr/skill.

And no, people DO mind lopsided games when they are winning because: a) It doesn't improve their skill as a player. b) They know they will be on the losing side of a lopsided game pretty soon. c) They realize that there is something disgustingly wrong with matchmaking.

If they don't mind, then they either probably hardcarried that game or they are sub 50% WR monkeys (and/or 250+ game in their sub gold division monkeys).

Alright, if all this evidence you claim exists really exists then go collect data on it. Bring a full report on it to the boards. I'm willing to change my mind if I am faced with evidence that hasn't been tampered with or mis-attributed. But be careful, when you begin with the end in mind it's easy to pull correlations that serve your needs while ignoring evidence that contradict them.

We only ever see people posting complaining about their win-streak being interrupted by lopsided matches. The point is that these lopsided matches exist already and they aren't just something that happens for the purpose of shutting down someone's win-streak.

so I don't really think you're going to give a flying fuck about what I say but hey I guess people that want valid data will use it.

Case 1: Recent booster/scripter that I played against. Near instant cast parry on Fiora, so either he's very very high elo player, booster, scripter, or all of the above.

http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=savila

Check out his game as Irelia after his winstreak of 4 games. It is an absolute trainwreck, with his toplane going 0/7/2, jg going 2/9/0, and adc going 4/8/6 whereas the enemy team all had above 2 KDA. And this was directly coming off of a winstreak.

Also, check out his most recent Fiora game. Very very lopsided. Everyone on the enemy team had above a 3 KDA, while he was struggling to keep his team in the game.

Case 2: High elo Xerath player who goes by "Zwag" (confirmed as he posted his twitch.tv after game). that I played against a week ago while this acct. was in Silver. Known by many as one of the best Xerath players in North America and has hit Challenger multiple times. https://l9eloboosting.com/our-team <-- He's featured there as a booster.

http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=Squ%C3%A1ll

Check out his most recent loss after his insane high-KDA winstreak. He goes 2/3/0, but his team does horribly. 0/4/0 jg, 0/3/0 top, 0/3/0 adc, 0/3/0 support into FF 15. Again, very very lopsided.

Case 3: Decent winrate player who is climbing, but look at the game where he lost as Sona after a 3 game winstreak. Top is Silver 2 (in a game with all Gold 4 / Gold 5). Meanwhile, his Silver 2 toplaner was laning against a Plat 5??? Poor guy. Really unfortunate. Rest of team was pretty evenly matched for the most part (Gold level, but it's evident that the Plat 5 toplaner hardcarried this game, esp with Irelia being in the state she is in now).

http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=mr0v0x0

Yeah this last case is weaker than the first two, but I wanted to point out a case where someone that wasn't a booster / avg. player was victimized by the system for winning. It is just much more evident in the case of the first two players, because you can clearly SEE that they are way too good for their elo from their previous games.

Now, yeah you can probably find cases where I am wrong -- cases where a loss that occurs after a winstreak isn't lopsided but I guarantee that there are more cases such as the ones that I have listed above than the non-lopsided cases.

Riot algorithm is definitely stacked AGAINST you if you have been winning a lot. In this sense, it is TRYING to screw you over if you have been winning a lot. Also, I think you have been neglecting the previous posters on this thread that are responding with their anecdotal evidence as well.

I would present you with more cases but you already mentioned that with an "end [goal] in mind, it's easy to pull correlations that serve your needs while ignoring evidence that contradict them," so I highly doubt that you're even going to read what I wrote. If I had a little more time, I would find at least 20 cases like the ones I mentioned above and would post them all on the boards, but it is a little tough to find people on winstreaks. I didn't want to use myself as an example to eliminate bias, but if you click on my profile you will see a game where I lost pretty badly after a 7 game winstreak mainly through the fault of an inexperienced jungler and mid.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

I'm gonna level with you on this, I'm probably not going to be convinced that the system stacks matches against you on purpose.

When I said data I meant some serious data, like pull match history for 20 games for 50 players in each division, look at each player in each of those games and see if THEY were on win or loss streaks etc.

Chances are though, if you did that you'd find out that just as many lopsided games occur when nobody's on a win streak. Like I said before, matchmaking is bad, but it's bad equally. Having an awful game is a function of all of the following:

  • Teammates stability, resilience to tilt, and recent match history
  • Teammates MMR
  • the player's own stability, resilience to tilt, and recent match history
  • opponents' MMR
  • opponents' stability, resilience to tilt, and recent match history
  • luck, sometimes plays go well or badly just because people are in the wrong place at the wrong time
  • Snowballing - it doesn't take much for a game to feel lopsided really quickly.

Besides a bad match, what else do you think could stop a player who’s in the zone and performing 2-3 divisions above their rating? Streaks end like that because nothing else can end them. It’s also why losing streaks for tilted players usually end in a free win.

Therefore, the system is not trying to stop you. If Riot had a matchmaker and rating system smart enough to detect smurfs, losing streaks due to tilt, and sudden skill spikes, then don’t you think that they would just, you know, use it?

We can speculate all day about their alleged dark motivations to drag out the climb, but until we have evidence for it, we can’t just assume it’s true.

Moreover, lopsided games just happen sometimes, even to those of us who are climbing. They happen to people on loss streaks, win streaks, or no streaks at all. To allege that Riot must have deliberately designed the system to sabotage your climb when it happens to you on a win streak belies the arrogance and paranoia characteristic of narcissism, as reflected in your seemingly ceaseless anger and attempts to ‘see through’ and discredit whoever disagrees with you.

The problem isn’t in the game. It’s in you.

I don't know, maybe a fair game where the enemy team is able to put their resources together to stop the good player? But then again this is unheard of amirite. Goodmatchmaking in 2k18?

It's really sad that Riot's alg thinks the only thing that can stop a player from destroying Solo Q is trolls and tilted losers. A player on a 5 game winning streak is bound to get 3+ teammates on a 5 game losing streak. Algorithm loves to put u through hell for multiple games in a row after it sees you winning a lot.

To help give my points about matchmaking a little more validity, I've linked the opgg's of a few boosters who were razing through low elo but were stopped in their tracks by griefers and by shitty matchmaking in general.

You also say since we don't have evidence for it we can't assume it's true? But we don't have evidence for it, so we are free to speculate, based on anecdotal evidence and analyzing match history data on op.gg, no? And based on anecdotal evidence of OP and the other posters on this thread and the hundreds of other posts on the Gameplay section of this forum, I do sense that there is a CLEAR issue with matchmaking in the sense that a winning streak tends to end with a nasty lopsided loss. I'm saying, why doesn't it tend to end with a normal loss? If someone is razing through their elo, must the algorithm really flag them so much that they are placed with 4 terrible players?

I'm not complaining because of a personal loss I had after a winning streak (check the op.gg links I've posted in a post above). I'm defending OP because I see the validity in what he says and acknowledge his anecdotal evidence. You say we don't have hard evidence for it yet, but if you refuse to even acknowledge anecdotal and personal evidence, then this is just blatant ignorance.

And i LOVE the "you're the problem, not the game" LMFAO. Classic. Face it: the game has many, many flaws, with matchmaking being a MAJOR one. If you refuse to accept the fact that the game is in a critical state right now, both in terms of balance and matchmaking, then I don't really know what to say.

3TWarrior1 votes

the system itself is flawed because it relies both on the team and the individual's performance

let's say you have a 60% winrate in whatever division you are in

(I don't know the number of wins necessary to advance) so let's say you need at least 6 wins, you then have a 1/10 chance of being promoted because that is your additional chance to win a sixth game out of the ten, if you even get that high with some accounts of how matchmaking works

60% also happens to be pretty good by league's standards but it would vary by rank

FridgesArePpl22 votes

That's not a flaw. League of Legends is a team game.

If you win 60% of your games you are guaranteed to climb. Assuming you gain/lose about 18 LP per game you'll average an LP gain of 36 per 10 games. So it'll take you about 30 games, which is pretty quick.

They fail miserably and go something like 2/12. We lose that one. Game 3: Useless toxic support, but we manage to carry even with them dragging us down. Game 4: Same support. I should have dodged. Support is still both useless and toxic, but we fail to carry and they drag us down for a loss.

Two and a half hours of game play that zeros outs.

Yeah tbh it's kinda sad. With this kind of matchmaking algo, they encourage smurfing, so you don't get fucked by the algo and get paired with mules.

The problem I see is that they dont respond to winstreaks by placing you against higher mmr players, to test out if you can cut it there, but instead they load your team with lower mmr idiots and keep your opponents at thier normal level. Even if they did place you against higher players, that would be bad.

You should only play against players where you are, not where your mmr is- for instance if you are silver 3, you should play silver 3s. Give or take whatever... to put say a gold 5 or silver one in your game, that is silver 3, is stupid.

If they want to do that, they should put you in gold 5, not bring gold 5 you. Mmr is retarded, inaccurate, and does stupid shit like that.

I've been hard stuck in silver for a while now, trying to figure out why.

Lately I've started to look at my teammates and just dodge if they are bad. So for instance I get into a game with 4 players that are at least 50% in their last 10, cool. My support is 2 in their last 10. Ehhhh, I think I should dodge, but I'm expiramenting with when I should/shouldn't... so I risk it. In champ select I tell the support, hey man we just don't feed and our team should be able to carry.

Support dies like 5 times early, has no lane pressure/presense, I literally can't even farm- trying to 1v2 farm under turret. The jhin/morgana poking the shit out of me. Guess I should've dodged. Lesson learned.

I don't know what else to do anymore, so I'm just dodging a lot more games and waiting 30 minutes.

Its kinda working, but when you have like a 70% winrate the system starts to just fuck you with terrrrrrrrrrible players. I'm going to be dodging more than I play. On top of that, even if I get to promos, promos will fuck me FOR SURE, and I won't be able to dodge. SO, this is doomed to fail... which I know going in.

Just sick of winning a bunch in a row and then getting shit on with teammates for an equal amount in a row. Its nuts. Fucking nuts.

I think I'm going to quit soon and play Realm Royale. This game doesn't deserve my time anymore. I get the impression that many players feel the same. Plus the new player experience is shit, so likely the game is coming into its decline currently.

I think you missed the point.

Ideally they should keep matching you with people near your MMR so your MMR can increase based on your actual skill level.

But if insist on making the game harder, the proper way to do that is to place them at a higher MMR - not give them crappier teammates and expect them to carry harder.

This hurts people who want to play the game properly, forcing people to one trick snowballers or split pushers as the only way to carry games 1vs9.

Games where everyone is the same MMR have a much higher chance of allowing you to win simply by playing your role better than most people at your MMR. Because the small differences matter more when the skill disparity is not so huge. With huge skill disparities, mismatched lanes can get fed horrendously before 10 minutes and the game is over regardless of your skill level.

This is exactly how the game feels currently. Like a waste of time.

Why can't they just make it so people who have win streaks play with people who also have close to same situation :\ or at least make all the players in the match be on the same mmr instead of putting in random lower mmr players :\

I feel really discouraged climbing as I have firsthand experienced having this false security of win streak only to face tragic losing streak because of unfair matchmaking. I remember when I experienced reattempting to get out of silver I 4 times in a row in a week and it feels really bad as I have no idea how I get to queue in with silver V and Bronze III-V players when my enemy team is mid-high silver and low gold to mid gold tier.

100% agree. The issue with Silver I also is that completely new to ranked players (i.e. actual new players and smurfs) will be doing their placement matches around this division, making games especially imbalanced. Promos to Gold get really weird. On my other acct. I've had 3 unranked people and one Silver 3 vs. a team where every player was between G3 and G5. This was in my last promo game and the game i needed to win to get into gold, but i ended up losing and then dropping to 40 ish lp after a few more games. You can say I was tilted, but a few of those games had shady as fuck matchmaking.

What I hate the most is that those hypercarries don't care if you have a higher mmr than him. if he plays vs a potato in lane and gets a quick 2-3 kills you are about to the knocked down haaard.
