Please use pick intent if you're not going to pick what your team needs

Just had a game. Team is basically all AD so far (Renekton top, Lee Sin Jungle, Bard Support, I'm second last pick ADC). Last pick has no intent and has flash+exhaust summoners. Enemy team so far has just Darius and Leona for tankiness, I figure we're mostly fine - pick my normal jinx.

Enemy team locks in Skarner.

Last pick goes Yasuo.

Like seriously, pretty much the WORST possible time to play the champion. So clearly you were set on playing him from the start - so INTENT it. I'd have gone Corki if I knew we were going to be all AD! (EDIT: if you're afraid of us banning it, intent it after banning phase)

Worst part is, as much as everyone sucked and lost lanes, I got a huge farm lead, we won a couple late fights, and I probably would have carried if they couldn't just stack armor against us.

Actually no, the worst part is that this Yasuo was somehow plat. How do you get to plat with that kind of bronze decision making? I just don't get it.

If you're not going to pick for the team, then show intent on your pick and let us pick around you.

Rant? Rant. Don't worry, it happens.

Though back on topic, yes, you should use it if you're going to play a certain type of champ. Scared of getting whatever you want to play banned because your teammates hate you? Pick something similar.

I often hover over Nami/Janna/Sona when in reality I'm going to pick Lulu support, this lets my teammates know "oh, one of us should go tank and that she is probably going to play a non-engage backliner support".

I don't even care if he doesn't show pick intent until AFTER the banning phase is over. Just show it before we start picking so I know if I need to change my pick up.

Playing Jinx as part of an all AD team without loads of peel is just awful. I mean, the enemy team just stacks armor and runs straight at me. Meanwhile Corki can kite better, poke better, and gives us diverse damage.

If he was going to pick something like Annie or Ahri or Lux or really ANY mid lane mage, we'd have been perfectly fine.

AND he was against an Azir. I don't play Azir so I'm not sure, but I think the Azir-Yasuo matchup favors Azir (it definitely did that game at least). Meanwhile I KNOW I like the Ahri-Azir matchup. Pretty sure mages with range or utility do well against Azir in general.

I played the Ahri vs Azir match-up once.

It was my first game on Ahri in a couple years and I was matched against a Master Azir.

It was traumatizing; I survived alright early-game and farmed well, but he crushed me come teamfights.

In fairness, they may have had bad experiences selecting their champions with Pick Intent which have made them leery of showing their champion before bans complete (though that is still no excuse not to use it after bans are complete and before people start picking champions).

Honestly, I tend to ban Yasuo if someone on my team is intending to pick them. I very rarely see Yasuo players do well and I find that they typically:

  • Pick him into all-AD team compositions (or tank-less team compositions) when we need magic damage and/or CC from the mid-laner
  • Are prone to toxicity or rage (i.e. stereotypical Riven or Vayne players)
  • Play over aggressively (as Yasuo has to in many match-ups) and get camped to hell. Honestly, I main jungle and I usually regard Yasuo as both a free kill whenever I gank (he's squishy, has no on-demand CC, no escapes unless he is overextending in front of our minions) and a priority since he is of little use when he falls behind.

I've had a few players dodge or troll because of this, though the mature ones just tend to suck it up and pick something else.

Heck, I had one this weekend where both our Leblanc Mid and Urgot support (they were a duo) trolling because I banned Yasuo. We still managed to hard-carry the game though despite three allies feeding (though I did feel sorry for our ADC; they were in a bad match-up to begin with and the Urgot intentionally feeding the enemy kills and screwing with his CS did not help matters).

So basically yasuo players are dumb? lol - well from that game can't say I disagree. In general though, Yasuo is fine. Even the ganking point, your allied jungler should know he'll be prioritized too and be prepared to counter gank. I see no issue there. It's no different than junglers racing to top lane for the level 3 gank.

I also won't blame him for going Yasuo in to all AD if he shows it. Then it's ALL of our fault because he told us he was going AD mid. It's when they don't show it that bothers me. Then it's his fault because the expectation is there that if you're playing mid you have an AP pick in your pocket.

I wouldn't say that Yasuo players are dumb, but you cannot deny that his kit is one that tends to attract toxic players or those who think they are more skilled than they truly are. In that respect, he is quite similar to Riven, Vayne, Zed and Leblanc (among other champions).

Even if you know allied Yasuo's will be prioritized, it is often difficult to prevent him from getting crushed by the enemy jungler. Yasuo will typically be overextended or aggressive during the laning phase, which provides the enemy jungler ample opportunities to gank. While you can try to ward up, there are many gank paths in the mid-lane and you can't sit nearby at all times; sometimes you have to gank other lanes, contest other objectives, counter-jungle or take Krugs/Gromp.

Yasuo doesn't really offer much when you gank for him either. Unless you have a knock-up/knock-back for him to ult off of, all he really provides is damage (since the enemy laner will generally dodge his knock-up or stay out of E-range.

Honestly, I dislike AD mids in generally. I find that they tend to mess up team compositions when not indicated early in Champion Select due to their lack of CC, safe waveclear, safe farming due to melee range and/or don't deal (a signficant amount of) magic damage. Honestly, the only AD mid laners I actually like are Corki (who deals primarily magic damage) and Varus (whose ultimate provides great CC), both of whom are ranged with good poke and waveclear.

Have Renekton build black cleaver and build last Whisperer. Armor problems solved.

I wouldn't say solved. I can't rush Last whisper or I'm useless (need IE and a zeal item), then since they have skarner I need a QSS on top of that. So LW isn't coming until later.

Also Renekton needs to stack that Black Cleaver to get the armor shred. Given he was 2/11, he wasn't going to get many chances to stack it. Which I acknowledge has little to do with the all AD team - so on topic, it would still be a lot better to force them to build some MR. Renekton can build BC anyways and I'll just do that much more damage.

Last time I used pick intent, to inform my team, I'll play Vayne top, she was the first ban from them. After that I had a really funny game with 1/14 full AD Soraka top aganist Darius.

Costed me a promo and about 3 reports from that worthless premade, but it was worth it.

Long-short story, pick intent for me is like playing ADC. I use it once a month to remind myself how worthless and counter-productive it is.

Again, I'll reiterate, you can use it AFTER the banning phase is over. Then they can't ban it on you.

The only times I see people ban something that an ally has intended are:

  • it's a new champion, so they obviously have no idea what they're doing
  • the person showed intent late (i.e. after banning phase) and the other player banned right as the intent showed. I actually did this yesterday, clicked ban on Kindred about 0.5 seconds after our first pick jungler highlighted kindred. Immediately said "shit, sorry, my bad" and he said "naw I showed intent too late".

Maybe it's an elo thing, but regardless, if you're afraid of your team banning it on you, why not show it after the last allied ban goes through?

You could just do the intelligent thing and use Pick Intent after ban phase ends.

They can't ban your pick but they know early enough to account for it.

Trolls are allergic to knowlege and actively destroy teamwork that uses it. This is sometimes expressed in the pick-intent process, and so there's some resistance to declaring intent.

Well

Half the time I use pick intent my own team bans who I plan on playing so...

Every yasuo/zed/riven/lee main in low elo does this, they dont give a shit about the teamcomp, they only care about themselves looking cool.
