My idea of how to handle new, updated, and/or reworked champions in ranked queues

We all have been there. New champion comes out, and everyone wants to play them. Problem is, no one has any significant experience on them, unless they have played them on the PBE, which is still just meh because those are still not their officially released forms. So what becomes those players who choose the new champions in a ranked queue?? They tend to just suck due to unfamiliarity, and it usually costs you the game and some of your precious LP. But I have an idea for how to handle this issue which will still allow players to be able to use the new champion(s) quickly in ranked queues, while also giving them a few games to ensure they at least know what they are doing. How can we do this? It is simple, we use the champion mastery level.

#Some Key Background Information First

For those of you who do not know, the champion mastery level is determined by an ever increasing, numerical value given to every champion you own based on champion mastery points. These champion levels though only can be increased by points alone from levels 1 -> 5 (both 6 and 7 need additional requirements). Every player will always achieves a champion mastery level of 1 after their first game on a champion regardless of any factors.

Each game you play gives you X amount of champion mastery points at the end. The amount you receive is determined by personal performance on said champion within that role and region, if you win/lose, and if you are in a premade (and how many players are in said premade) or not. A good game can easily net you over 1000 points.

#My Idea

I say that you have to achieve mastery level 3+ (6000+ points) to use a new champion in ranked queues for gold tier and under, since often the bad players here are mostly due to poor performances with game mechanics and a basic lack of skill, rather than champion proficiency. And for platinum and higher you need mastery level 4+ (12600+ points), since at these ranks you are expected to have an acceptable performance in game mechanics and at bare minimum, an average level of skill. Champion proficiency also starts to significantly matter here. That being said, I would also include a clause where with every week (7 days) that passes, the minimum required mastery level drops by 1, starting after week 2 (14 days).

#My Idea Further Explained

Basically, for the first 2 week (14 days) after release, you need the mastery level I had stated before to play said champion(s) in any ranked queue (based off of your personal rank). Then for the next week (starting day 15 after release) after that, you need 1 mastery level less (gold and under need at least mastery level 2 (1800+ points) and plat+ needs at least mastery level 3 (6000+ points). And a week (starting day 22 after release) later, gold and under drop all of their requirements for ranked, and plat+ just needs at least mastery level 2 (1800+ points). Lastly, in the 5th week (starting day 29 after release) after release, all requirements are dropped for all ranks.

#For Clarity

  1. You would not be allowed to trade for a champion in ranked for which you do not meet the mastery level requirements.
  2. If you promote from Gold to Platinum, you will need to re-achieve the required champion mastery level before you can use the new champion(s) again (if you did not already have it before you promoted).
  3. This only applies to newly released and significantly reworked/updated champion who were given significant kit changes (similar to the LeBlanc, Talon, and Alistar kit changes) and/or a full rework (like Warwick, Yorick, and Galio had).
  4. The required point amounts are totals, not the requirements to get the next level.
  5. The day of release is considered to be day 1 for this, not day 0. So if a champion were to be released on a Wednesday, then every new week will start on a Wednesday.

No. Riot has also stated that they will not do this type of system, and it has already been suggested five thousand times, including today.

From what I have seen, most posts are asking for just disabling them from ranked entirely for 1-2 weeks. With my suggestion, you could actually play that champion in the same day or 1 to 2 days after purchase. You just have to prove competence.
