IMO Veigar E is too damn strong and could use a rework.

I get it that it is his only defense, and his way to set up his W. But come on. It is massive and near impossible to miss in team fights. The thing lasts for 3 seconds too. So at rank 5 with 40% CDR, like pretty much every Veigar gets, he has it out every 5 seconds. And at any point during those 3 seconds if you even slightly brush against the walls, you are stunned for up to 2.5 seconds. You get a whooping 0.5 seconds to react to it too.

Think of it like this. He is meant to hold the absolute highest AP scaling stats in the game, scaling infinitely given enough time. And acquiring those stacks is super easy when literally anything other than a basic attack vs a champion generates one. Killing a champion or getting an assist gets 5. And you Q stacks them too with killing anything. You can even build him 100% defensively and still top the magic damage charts.

My idea would be to scrap his current E's functionality and make it work like this:

When activated, place a circle on the ground slowing enemies based on distance from the center. The closer you are the slower you are, minimum of 20% up to 90% or something, and the further from the center you go, the less slowed you get. After a brief delay, maybe 0.5 seconds, enemies still inside the circle are stunned based again on distance from center. Closer the longer, capping at 2 seconds, minimum of 0.75 seconds on the parameter. After the initial stun, anyone walking on the area who was not already stunned would not be effected.

I think this would be a better ability for him because it still allows for setup, while also giving him some defense. It is much easier to self cast it than aim the edge on top of you too for when a Zed or some other melee champ is on top of you. It would also make it more unique so that it is not just a better Thresh ult. The AOE could be similar size as well, though I would say somewhat smaller would be better, since there would no longer be a "safety" center area.

What you would lose from area control, you would directly gain as AP since just casting it would generate stacks for anyone still within the circle once the stun hits. Champions could no longer just wait it out in the center. However, this would still allow champions to avoid it and would no lock down an entire area for such a long time. The stun would also allow him to set up his W even at the shortest spot since it takes only 1.2 seconds to land.

What do you think?

His E was already reworked when the mid season mage update happened the previous year. It used to catch people near instantaneously instead of giving people a heads up at all. It's far easier to dodge than it used to be.

I don't have an issue with the stun or dodging it. My issue is the mainly with how it both traps and locks down an area for 3 seconds where when in a team fight, being inside it is just as bad since you cant leave it without flashing out or wasting an item CD.

As opposed to countless other champion spells that force a player to spend the same resources. Anivia, Taliyah , Yorick and J4 are just as capable of forcing you into similar situations. Cages are a part of League. We all have been caught by surprise on more than one occasion.

None of the other cages stun you for 2.5 seconds on contact

This is true, but all are effective if placed properly in keeping you stuck in place. The ones mentioned also had the negative side effect in potentially harming your team as well.

Veigar's does not have that weakness, neither does Yorick since both can be walked through by allies

That was my entire point about Veigar's. Thank you for agreeing. :)

But that just further supports my original point of his E being too strong.
