Athene's is the most contradictory item in the game. Separate the passives into different items.

I challenge you to find a clunkier, more contradictory heap of various stats and effects than Athene's.

  1. 40 AP and 30 MR is pathetic. It's not going to save you from mages 100-0ing you and it's not going to increase your damage or healing, especially when compared to the other support items that directly buff your healing/shielding. This is unfortunately the least of the problems Athene's has.

  2. 20% CDR and 75% mana regen. A support's build is already extremely oversaturated with CDR, and will hit the 45% CDR cap without Athene's. If you try to cram Athene's into your build, you're wasting about 600g alone on CDR. Also, the mana regen never should have been nerfed on an item that gives 20% CDR and no mana. A lot of champions relied on the old mana font passive (restores missing % mana each second) for their mana issues. This brings me to my next point.

  3. The mana regen passive was replaced with an HP regen passive. At first glance, it seems pretty useful. A support can easily get about 200% HP regen from their 200% mana regen. The problem is that the support champions who buy Athene's have some of the lowest base hp regen in the game. %Hp regen scales off of base hp regen, causing the "harmony" passive to be almost useless. Also, healing isn't usually a big issue for supports. Champions with low hp regen like Soraka heal themselves with self-healing and the minion death passive from talisman items. Most champions simply can't fit this item into their build because it doesn't contribute to damage or self-survival. The only reason to buy this item is for the blood well passive.

  4. The blood well is another super contradictory passive. The more damage you deal, the more healing you do. The problem here is that most of the champions that focus on healing simply don't do enough damage to charge up the blood well effectively. Lux and Orianna are the only champions that can really utilize this item effectively, but they're mid laners and they simply can't afford to buy a full item with only 40 AP. That leaves Lulu Karma Sona as the only champions this effect is half decent on. Again, their base HP regen is awful, and they get huge amounts of CDR without Athene's, so even if they really want that blood well passive, it's still rarely worth getting Athene's.

So the thing about Athene's is that it has several strong effects, but none of them are all good on the same champion. You can make this item cheaper or more gold efficient like Riot has been doing and it will still be a clunky, contradictory item that rarely fits into any build. It has a 2 unique, interesting effects that could be preserved, just not on the same item. I personally think Athene's never should have been changed. Morello's was changed to a high damage mana item so intersecting niches with Athene's was no longer an issue. The blood well effect should be put on an AP support item with either 10% CDR or no CDR so the few champions that appreciate the passive can actually utilize it on an item with half decent stats. The harmony effect is cool in theory, but in practice it's just way too weak on champions that get a reasonable amount of mana regen. Honestly it would be fine to just leave Crucible as the only item that keeps this passive.

I always buy item 3165 item 3174 item 3116 on Orianna as core.

Its very strong tbh, You have an ultimate on 52s/46s cooldown, and you kite as a god. ms boost with 45%cdr + you heal your squishies from poke. It could get some love, but I think its fine now, maybe up the mana regen to 100%?

Also the harmony bonus is underrated.
