Void staff needs to be nerfed.

It's nice that we actually have magic resist options for various passives but the reality is that going beyond 2 MR items gets you instadeleted by the enemies AD. You could argue that AD is too strong but this same scenario would be equally true if you didn't build MR or even built 1 MR item and having the AP delete you.

Nothing feels shittier than sitting on 180 MR and watching a Lux land a snare on me from FoW and taking 1200 HP off of me from her full combo. I realize that's absurd to say such a thing but investing that kind of gold into magic resist is supposed to prevent a burst oriented mage from doing that kind of damage to me in one combo in the first place.

AP reaps more benefits across the board than AD. It makes heals and shields stronger. It's a utility stat just as much as a damage stat but it feels like it gets balanced around the idea that it can only be useful as a damage stat when that simply isn't the case. I could accept a Ryze, Cass or Azir DPSing me down when they have void but I refuse to acknowledge a burst mage taking even 1/3rd of my HP in one combo when I'm sitting at almost 200MR - and let's be honest, calling Lux a burst mage is generous because she's more oriented on picks + combos and repeat so that damage feels even sillier considering that.

Void staff is the only % magic pen item though. Physical damage champs get benefit from cleaver if a teammate has it(not that they should imo). And there is a lot of % armour shred in kits. MR doesnt feel inneffective to me.

And AP offers stronger utility. Abyssal mask also exists. Just because it's the only % pen item doesn't mean the % pen isn't set at a value too high. And you're right, MR feels good until they buy a void. Then MR feels worthless.

It's not like AP itemization is complete horse shit compared to the wide selection of ad items with super useful passives n shit, nope. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

One downvote with no comments. Off to the abyss this thread goes. RIP thread, love you.

i downvoted cause it is harder to balance it lux has no aa that deals 900 damage and heals her for 500 after she uses her combe she is done this is the problem if mpen was weaker you'd feel like shit playing lux

I actually can't understand what you're trying to say.

And downvoting just because you disagree is stupid.

not all shields and heals scale with ap some shields and heals scale with ad

this thread doesn't make sense

how is AP scaling on something else makes void staff broken?

magic penetration is a thing to make tankiness falling off in late game just like armor pen and riot won't change that

You mean rivens shield? The one ad scaling shield in the game? And what heal scales with AD other than lifesteal which requires an investment into the stat in the first place.

It doesn't make sense because you disagree with it? K, sensing no bias at all here.

I'm merely pointing out AP has more uses than simply damage so that you can't bring the argument of "mages need to do damage that's all they do" up.

magic penetration is a thing to make tankiness falling off in late game just like armor pen

Okay, I'm not disagreeing with this but...

and riot won't change that

Why? They've changed last whisper before. It is entirely possible that the values are simply too high.

mages do not "only bring damage" just like non-outdated ad champions

they nerfed it some patches ago because they nerfed HP and buffed armor, it would have been pointless if armor penetration was still high

they didn't nerf void staff because mages do not kill tanks unless they're designed to do it they gave adaptive helm against DPS mages that kill tanks

buff adaptive helm if it's weak, but do not nerf void staff

Burst Mage is a thing.

Without a strong Void Staff we could see a world where stop becoming a thing. There is a lot of damage math to consider.

The point you bring up about AP having utility is interesting, but I'm not sure how much the people who get Void Staff benefit from utility scaling. I can only think about Lux

Well it gives AP too so it does benefit any AP scaling

Yeah, that ties into the aforementioned "a lot of damage math" and once again you aren't addressing how many people actually benefit from utility scaling and want to build Void Staff.

Why nerf ap champions even further? Many of the other ap items have had their strengths reduced in the past with void staff being one of the few thats largely been unaffected by changes. And for good reason as without it affecting the entirety of the enemies mr many aps would simply struggle to contribute meaningful damage as they often have less sustained damage compared to ad champion who also deal a significant portion of their damage in form of autoattacks. AD itemization in general is also much much better maybe even too good, particularly item 3155 item 3156 which still might be to effective at mitigating ap damage but also item 3139 item 3814 and easily accessible armorpen both flat and %. Last whisper was changed from total Armor reduction to bonus a long time ago because AD champions simply didnt need an item that strong which destroys squishies and tanks alike and was the best choice in every situation but AP champions need just that.

For the record, I wouldn't be against toning down values on damage + resist items if void staff ever got nerfed.
