Why did they give urgot a dash?

Rexxiee··50 votes·3,613 views

Isnt he supposed to be a juggernaut?

Hes already ranged for fucks sake, is this the new balance trend nowdays?

Mobile ranged juggernaut with CC, i can already see the balance coming out of this.

The character's passive litterally encourages him to shoot you from every angle possible.

That dash is more than needed for a kit like that to properly function.

SzGamer2278 votes

Considering his autos start dealing less damage if you just keep attacking without procing passive, you couldn't be more correct. Not only is he encouraged to weave around a target, he's punished for holding back and poking from one angle.

so orb walking isnt a thing anymore?

I wouldn't consider 350 AA range "ranged"

I wouldn't consider 350 AA range "ranged"

so you dont consider gnar mini form (400 range early game) ranged too?

Its more than enough to do free damage to anyone melee top lane.

Doozku22 votes

Gnar has more ranged poke than Urgot with his Q while also being way faster just passively and with his E. He also can stay back and kite with his massive dash. Urgot is ranged but barely, and he has to get in close with someone to fight because of how his passive works. He's not going to be nearly as frustrating and kitey as some other ranged toplaners we've seen in the past.

Doozku18 votes

His dash is really short ranged and has a high cooldown. He needs it so that he can get to the other side of his target so he can keep using his passive. It's not even that much of a dash, its basically going to have the same effect as a Dari pull.

Theres no numbers on the reveal, you dont know its cd, and hes probably building BC.

Doozku10 votes

I timed the E in the video and found the cd to be 11 seconds. That's pretty long for such a puny dash seeing as how he is fairly slow and has no other cc. Also it is likely that he did build a BC in the clip since he's level 14. Sure, we don't know the exact numbers but even it having a 7 second cd at max rank would still be fairly long seeing as how puny the dash range actually is. Every Juggernaut needs some kind of way to get to his target, even a weak way like an MS buff or a pull. If you don't give a Juggernaut some kind of gapcloser, then we get champions like Mordekaiser.

ModAcademy Kayn3 votes

Yeah, Garen has his speed buff, Darius has a pull, Illaoi has her slam-jump, Chogath has CC and a slow, Skarner has a speed boost. Urgot being completely immobile would make half his passive useless.

Except for Azir, because Riot deemed it necessary to remove his dash

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

Chembaron Yamada5 votes

Was that the conclusion of the Azir update thread? Are they going to rework him into a battlemage?

Ariel the Cruel11 votes

Again? I still haven't forgotten his release.

Riot: We've determined his Q poke to be a problem since he is intended to be a DPS mage. <Nerfs Soldiers> <Buffs Q poke> Riot: Azir is still poking things. . . <Reduces Azir's Durability> <Guts Bruiser build> Riot: Azir is just too hard to balance. (o_O)

I laugh because people get payed for these fuck ups. Riots buffs often look like closing a door and they announce that you were supposed to walk through the closed door not break the window and jump through it.

ModKnightsKemplar10 votes

I mean... it's a short range, long animation dash that's intended to re-position enemies more than gap close. I see what you're getting at, but I don't think I'm going to count it as "mobility" until I see him work that way in game. I would have preferred a chain to come out and grab someone to reposition, perhaps, but we do have a lot of hooks in game already. I don't want Urgot support. We'll see how it goes.

Bârd9 votes

It's to pay homage to his old ultimate.

Dash forward, throw your enemy behind you. While it's not exact, you effectively swap positions.

Same reason Galio got a taunt.

EinarUlfar1 votes

Shocked this is the only comment I've read mentioning this. People were asking over Reddit + here regarding the dash, and in my opinion it's to deal with his slow movement speed and his need for quick re-positioning to reach his maximum damage potential.

Mouse5342 votes

I agreed and commented on it myself, but this system of upvoting makes it harder to spot things unless you delve through the system. I'm glad they kept some form of it in his kit without making it seem overbearing or needing to be tossed out. I like how they changed some things around, over just getting rid of the play pattern. His old Q pattern (long range missiles to kill off peeps) is now his ult, and his ult (switch position with enemy) is now his grab. He didn't really lose or gain anything besides shifting things and giving him a better passive then what he had, and theoretically since he always rushed Black Cleaver, (depending on how the passive procs on hits) would be functionally the same amount of ar pen that was built into his old kit. Urgod never really lost anything but gained a better passive, and ability shifts and numbers changes. Hell, even his new shield machinegun damage output seems to be a shift out of his q rapid firing and just applying it to his new w instead.

I've been really looking forward to see the numbers so I could do some comparative numbers testing between his old kit and this new one.

EinarUlfar1 votes

You one of them Urgod mains I been hearing so little about? On a serious note, if you are/were, what's your favorite change with the rework?

Mouse5341 votes

I don't really have a 'main' (don't do ranked), just champs I really like and play in (what I think) their best lanes are. I like adc, and 'in your face' champs; naturally I would like the champ. I only really do math on champs when asked or feel like doing discussion, but the ones I have for myself are: Azir Kled Jhin MissFortune Veigar Twitch Nautilus Urgot

I ALWAYS trade for Urgod in ARAM, and loved the champ when me and my best bro went beauty bot Urgot Chogath when I first got introduced to the game.

Best changes comes with the passive, making Black Cleaver the automatic rush item (w plus one proc will be 4 stacks, not including the 8 followup attacks). My current build, in order of priority: item 3043 item 3071 item 3812 item 3156 and a health/def item and defense boots. Deaths Dance gives him everything he loves right now and I don't expect that to change.

Just re read what you said, having a dash = immobile now?

Guy Fox Teemo3 votes

Yes a 400 range, super slow dash that probably has a really long cool down, that can't go through walls.

Does not make him mobile; GALIO HAS A DASH, Galio isn't "mobile"

Galio is not immobile what the hell, he has his dash on a relatively low cd that comes with CC + a map wide mobility with ult, is this what you call a "not mobile" champs nowdays?

Jesus.

You ppl dont even know whats immobile, immobile means ZERO DASHES, and very limited bonus MS ability or none at all.

Ashe is immobile, jinx is immobile, galio and new urgot are mobile.

Divewing1 votes

Immobile adjective not moving; motionless. "she sat immobile for a long time" synonyms: motionless, unmoving, without moving, still, stock-still, static, stationary, at rest, at a standstill, dormant; More incapable of moving or being moved. "an immobile workforce"

Do... you know what immobile means...?

Peoples issue buddy is you are taking a single, slow dash that is blocked by terrain that likely will have a hefty cooldown, and grouping that in the same category as things like Talon Kalista and Yasuo, which are conditionally limitless.

Apocalypsic1 votes

Yasuo has conditions, same with Talon, Katarina, Kalista etc....

You want true conditonless mobility then look at Riven or Zed.

Divewing1 votes

"condition_ally_ limitless" ie yasuo and kalista could perma dash if the targets are there, talon could perma hop with enough walls.

It was basically a way of saying: "these guys lots mobility"

Apocalypsic1 votes

Gotchya, my bad.

Divewing1 votes

it's fine.

it's a point that's pretty stretched..

God of facepalm. A champion with a dash is NOT a highly mobile champion. Stop putting them in the same category as Lucian, Vayne and Talon

Guy Fox Teemo7 votes

Having mobility does not = being mobile. Its not a black and white scenario. ZED is a mobile champion, Ahri is mobile, Talon is Mobile.

Urgot is not, that short range dash isn't gonna do shit for him besides re-positioning. You know nothing about game balance, if you think Urgot is mobile.

Uh what?

Just re read what you said, having a dash = immobile now?

You should be the one listening to your own comment. There is nothing hard to understand about what they said unless someone is dumb. Just because someone has mobility doesn't mean they are a mobile champ. Examples in this VERY thread are Garen and Skarner. All they have is a MS boost, and only idiots would consider them mobile. Mobile is Nidalee and her 3 second hop, or Fizz with his E or Q through something. Leblanc with her 2 dashes. Ahri with 3 dashes and Q MS boost, or fking Riven with 4 dashes. And this is just merely counting dashes. Since most of those examples have ways to CC the enemy to escape, Ahri Charm, LB chain, Riven stun and knock up which is also on a dash, Fizz by just going all in on you and kill you instantly.

Another example would be Rumble, sure he has a semi spammable MS boost but he isn't really getting anywhere fast, or likely to escape death with it when champs like Ahri sure as hell can escape death back to back without much effort. Ohh no I got caught out? R, whats that, still not far? Too bad I got 2 more Rs. Ohh I have a low CD Q that also speeds me up? Throw that out a few times during my R. And if all else fails I still got Flash. There is a reason people really hate Ahri after all. She has more than Lee Sin's level of mobility since EVEN LEE has some conditions on his. He needs some kind of ally object to hop to or some enemy to Q to. And that is saying something since Lee is in fact the most hated champ in the game.

Hes an immobile champion. Hes like a literal tank, meant to fight melee top laners but has trouble keeping up with mobile ones, it even says that on the page

SzGamer2271 votes

It's funny that "tank" is associated with characters whose primary strength is durability when actual tanks also pack serious firepower in the form of a big-ass cannon. Juggernauts are the truly tanky champions.

Chembaron Yamada4 votes

How else do you want to call tanks then? Brick walls? xD

Iźuku Midoriya6 votes

i mean he has explosive fire attacks all around him, a minigun, an chem explosive and a giant hook, it sounds like a close range tank or some crazy bio weapon out of resident evil
