Adjust the Consequences of Winning Normal/Ranked Games

I'd like to propose a few adjustments that are made to Ranked and Normal matches, the purpose of which is to remove the stigma that "Normals don't matter" and that you should just play ranked because of that:

  1. Increase the amount of IP gained from normals by 1.5x the rate of Ranked. All numbers based on current standings
  2. Hextech Crafting availability should only be allowed from Normals.
  3. Reduce the penalty for losing Ranked games if the champion you're using has a Rank 5 Mastery (To clarify, this should be a small discount.)

I flirted with the idea of suggesting Mastery gains are only allowed in Normals but that seems extreme. Anyway, again, the goal is to give Normals some rationale, and to make Ranked a little more pure sport.

Not sure how you found that "Mastery gains are only allowed in Normals" seems extreme but the others that you listed aren't.

Some people legit do not play normals; you've just closed Hextech off from them.

Ranked is supposed to be the most efficient way to train everything, at the "cost" of putting your rank "on the line." Normals are meant for practice, I'm sorry but it's true.

People can, should and will play brand new champs there when they have no clue how to play them because that's what normals are for. If they are legit trolling you can report them after the game, but forcing people to grind in normals for an lp buffer is ridiculous, I'm sorry.

The IP gains however I am not against, since I understand the IP grind is real.

Weirdly, I think we're in agreement.

I'm attempting to enforce the "Normals are for practice" rule with this. And moreover, Ranked is for gaining rank. The purpose of these implementations are to give Normal some heft. What I'm trying to eliminate is the player who refuses to play Normal.

Fair enough I guess. I don't think you'll ever eliminate those people though... my cousin, for instance, does not play normals at all as he believes them to be a waste of efficiency and thinks that people won't try their hardest vs. him due to that. He wants a challenge. He wants to make sure something is always on the line to make sure that he's trying. So he purely plays ranked.

It's a vicious circle really, since his normal mmr is lower than his ranked one he gets less challenging opponents, so it feeds back into the loop.

They also can't just make the mmr the same otherwise people can't try new stuff in normals 'cause they'll be punished too heavily.

No, just no. Those are really dumb ideas. Normals are not supposed to matter. You're supposed to try out new champions, builds, and ways to play in normals.
