Bronze, Choosing a Main, and ADCs: Do Marksman Carry the Match?

I'm trapped in the Bronze 5, I have been for years, and against my own enjoyment and preference, I'm just going to play what allegedly will get me out (not support). I'm also following the line of reasoning that you should play one champ that can take multiple roles. To this end, I queue Top/Jungle as Jarvan 4 and I'm using the pre-season to get the rust out.

Except it seems to me that the ADCs are just ravaging people. It was suggested by a friend that I should go top lane because I seem to love diving the backline and doing it as support is a bad plan. Having been trying thing out I feel like when I dive, I always die, and sometimes we don't even get the ADC. I rarely do, the team gets them the majority of the time, and somewhere between those they murder everything.

I came here with a question: Am I just bad, am I misreading things, or are ADCs running rampant? And if it's the latter, what can I do about it if I'm sticking with J4.

Any help is appreciated.

Instead of trying to find a super op life hack, try improving on the fundamentals and becoming a consistent player. You have a huuuuuuuge gap in doing well and doing poorly in your games.

Yeah, possibly but if you're looking at recent matches I'm trying a lot of different champs because of the pre-season. Or was there something else you're referring to?

J4 is great for dealing with ADCs. If you build damage you will - for the most part - be able to catch and assassinate them.

Check out this gameplay video by SoloRenektonOnly, and if you like his personality, go give his channel a closer look. He has a lot of videos about how to control the Top lane (as a top laner) and he has a lot of fun gameplay videos of strong or broken builds. Throughout all his videos he sprinkles explanations of what he's doing and why he is doing it, which helped me a lot for learning how to play better and carry from the top-lane.

As for one of the best roles to climb with, if you can put the time into it, being good at jungling helps a lot for climbing the early ranks. Lots of people lack map awareness and are too uncoordinated to help their teammates out if you start snowballing. Best thing you can do is camp a lane where your teammate is ahead (has more farm or kills) and just help them get even farther ahead. You can piggy back off of their success and get stronger yourself, and then you can roam with them to spread the power to your other lanes and to force objectives. Remember to ward smartly and keep your map awareness sharp, it will help a lot to avoid getting caught by surprise, and you can use it to notice ganks coming for your teammates and warn them with danger pings on their lane.

Aside from easy champs, and J4 counts, nothing will get you out aside from you.

what can I do about it if I'm sticking with J4.

  1. learn jungle pathing, or learn how top lane trades work and get a lot of CS during laning.
  2. map awareness, where are all 5 enemy champs and who on your team is alive and in what condition are they?
  3. learn how to gank at 2-3
  4. you should probably gank when your ult is up, even if you blow a flash, you can gank the lane again a minute later while it's still down.
  5. learn who not to gank for (people who are feeding, champs with low damage, or no CC)
  6. learn which champs need to snowball (riven, nasus) and gank top accordingly
  7. focus non-dragon, non-baron objectives.
  8. understand that the game will probably be won/lost early on, even if it goes 50 minutes.
  9. learn how to close out games. Hint, if you aren't focusing on the nexus you are doing it wrong.
  10. change up your itemization according to what the team needs out of you. If they need damage, go full damage. If they need tank, go bruiser or tank.
  11. Learn about your champ and his power spikes
  12. learn where to ward and how to clear wards. Also, your wards early on are valuable, don't waste them.
  13. learn what you need to do after laning ends
  14. League is about minions, don't forget that. Even if you are a jungler, don't do jungle camps if there are minions you can safely take or a lane you need to push out.
  15. learn to set up a slow push and learn when you need to shove lanes in.
  16. learn to keep a track of the enemy jungler, think where he would want to go next, and react accordingly.

Am I just bad

At bronze 5, you are bad at everything. Pick one thing and work on it for a few games until it's better, then pick something else. Gitting gud is going to be a long term process.

Try recording your games, thinking about what you want to do next and try to think about what the enemy is doing and what he wants to do.

Play annie mid. She is kinda boring but if you just focus on cs dont be agressive just farm ward and the second you see your laner mising ping top and bot that they are missing and trust me you will start to climb. Just practise cs and dont do stupid thing like chase for 3 min for a kill and you will improve

Miss Fortune and Ezreal are the only adc that are broken right now. If you've been bronze 4/5 for years u can improve on a ton of stuff. One tricking a champ like j4 is probably a good idea cuz its pretty simple, has utility, mobility, versatility and plenty damage.

In Bronze just play a champ thats good during a teamfight seeing that most of the time your games most of your most important games down there will be during this phase since most of the time your team will ignore objectives and not close the game out.But if you have the knowledge youll be able to carry pretty decently as an adc ( After I lost like 5 games and got demoted cause of m botlane I got pissed and played adc and won 4/5 of the games my skills werent at the level of my opponents but I knew how to position, focus and what to build so while my enemy got a lead early on I wasnt too far behind. That beong said this was during the last few days of the ardent meta I believe a few days before preseason)

I feel like I'm pretty solid at not taking bait, CSing, and focusing on objectives. What I tend to see as a problem for me (but am open to feedback) is I'm not playing the "once fed, proceed to carry" champs.

I feel this way because as a support, I either get my ADC fed or prevent them from feeding. But ultimately that's not what wins games. It's (in my experience) the fed Illaoi, Yasuo, Yi, Darius, Vayne, or Jax. Once they hit a point in B5, they can take out 3 or 4 of the enemy players themselves creating in practice a 5 on 2. You can't recover from those numbers.

My major focus as support, therefore, is doing what I can to take objectives quickly enough to give us super minions first. This works but not really often enough for me to stick with it. And I'm choosing J4 because by and large bronze seems to lack tanks more often than not (expect when we somehow have 3). I'm really hesitant to employ the strat of carry-champs because I don't find it fun at all but I'm also sick of being in a bracket where I can't support because it's often made irrelevant.

Since you want to carry as a support player I would recommend Leona, Rakan if your adc is Xayah and probably some mage supports Brand/ Malz (and any other scum of botlane) with these guys youll be doing a good job of controlling the teamfights in your favor vi locking down someone and making picks. Or just having a damage output so high the enemy has to ignore the adc to try to pick you off.

Most important thing to do is get fed during the laning phase so since your team wont be looking at the map thats going to be your job keep river warded and enemy jg. And make sure if you see an enemy ganking anywhere ping that lane since theres a good chance they werent looking. Another thing is roaming with your jgler is a good option since gettting a laner fed is always good and youll get a gold adv, just be careful with this since if you take too long your adc might get caught out and get put behind since theyre alone
