Am I missing something about Deathfire Touch?

I see a lot of people taking it on some... odd choices. Thresh, Voli, Cait, for examples

Thresh, Voli, Cait, for examples

Causing DoT effects synergizes extremely well with a poke-heavy playstyle Cait wants to use. In total: DFT adds a +30% AD ratio to Caitlyn's Peacemaker and a +60% AD ratio to Ace in the Hole, which isn't terrible.

Not as great as Thunderlord's or Fervor, but the Ability Damage that Deathfire applies on is simply pretty much any ability - regardless of it doing physical, magical, or true damage. DFT also has a pretty solid AD ratio: 60% with single-target skills, allowing Cait's 200% AD ratio ult to effectively be a 260% AD ratio ult.

Thresh is also a little more poke-heavy.

Volibear is not, and should feel ashamed for grabbing DFT when he could apply lightning with his lightning.

Yea but thresh pokes with his autos, not spells.

DFT sucks though cause you'd need around 600ad or 1200ap to make it outperform TLD such as jhin/vei/ I THINK cassi

Or 300AD/600AP if you can keep DFT ticking for 8 seconds which is unreasonably long in any champ with that much stats aside from brand/karthus/cassi who can safely keep that applied to an enemy team for 6-12 seconds

Everyone else is better or going TLD because it's a safer trade route and even if you continue to engage you aren't hitting them in combat for longer than 6 seconds consistently.

you do know TLD has a CD and DFT does not right?

and DFT applies from any spell hit vs having to do a 3 hit combo for TLD, which is nice because it adds up to 30%AP/60% bonus AD to poke spells.

DFT still has to be applied for 8 seconds for it to come anywhere close to TLD's effectiveness which isn't safe for most champs aside from brand/karthus/cassi to keep applied on enemies, jhin and vei can use it since their scaling outweighs TLD too. Everyone else gets more outta TLD though.

TLD is safer and easier to get off a lot more reliably. Also don't just look at scalings you have to look at how much bonus ad/ap you actually build compare the amount to the base damage+scaling TLD gives, all that scaling means nothing if you don't build for it.

uhh

i don't know about the first two

but if Caitlyn traps proc it maybe she's sleeper with it???

Caitlyn traps don't deal damage, so they can't even proc it

When sated devourer first came out I saw people taking it on a lot of questionable champions, Lee Sin, Rek'Sai, Volibear, Rengar. People probably just think DFT is OP or something, or they forgot to change masteries.

Sire Hippington1 votes

nope, doesn't make any sence on those, atleast not compared to other options...

its pretty terrible on pretty much every single champion in the game. except jhin and even then its only good in the extreme late game.

I get why people use it on Jhin, but at the same time I don't know why they use it over the other masteries. Personally I use stormraider's. Every fourth attack I get the bonus MS from the crit and from stormraider's since I just took out at least half their health. Plus going that deep in the second tree lets me get the 45% cdr mastery, which is awesome for Jhin.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i'd use stormraiders too.

people use deathfire because they only plan on hitting a champion once with a spell to harass, instead of the 3 attack combo that the blue one provides. They are the same but its just a matter of what champion does what skills.

There is no reason for Thresh or Volibear to take DFT as it has a low base damage and they generally don't build enough AD/AP to make it particularly good

On Caitlyn I can see it being decent though Fervor of Battle will likely add more damage if Caitlyn is abusing her range to get in as many auto attacks as possible

I take it when I feel like being a rebel and foregoing Thunderlord's on a caster.

(Also, it's kinda the only damage mastery that makes sense on Karthus ).

It's necessary on the new Swain as his new damage is complete and utter dogshit.
