Casual reminder that very nearly nothing actually beats Pantheon

Bouncemaster Zac··3 votes·948 views

He's been one of the most oppressive and non-interactive top laners in the game since always, but he's only become more impossible to face over the last couple of seasons with the potion rework and the introduction of keystones. At present, Pantheon can spear someone every 4 seconds for 65 +140%AD plus corrupting pot burn plus DFT burn the instant he enters lane and bully them down to free kill range by the time he hits level 2, which he'll almost always get first due to how hard he's bullying. Combined with the fact that he essentially always takes summoner 14 since his ult means he doesn't need summoner 12 , has strong all-in on top of the best level 1 harass in the game and is also practically immune to being all-inned against due to being able to double raise his shield passive. His consistent 54% winrate even on people who have never played him before for the past several patches show he's unreasonably effective even with minimal skill requirement. He needs some kind of downside to him.

Thats strange, I never had a problem with Pantheon when I picked a champion strong against him. They must have changed solo queue so you can't counter-pick anymore.

Part of my issue is he doesn't have counterpicks.

You may have more problems that just Pantheon.

ikr Pantheon is a cheese pick. OP cant handle cheese and cries on the forums immediately after losing to a Pantheon. He's a suspect bronze in disguise lol

I said "suspect". Crying on the forums after a match instead of figuring out how he lost and countering it next time is a characteristic of low elo players. I expected more out of a 2 time gold player.

I intentionally play into counterpicks in norms to help improve myself. I dont cry on the forums.

GP sort of gets trashed by Panth. You must either be a very good GP or facing trash Panths.

"Cheese picks" that are easy to counter don't maintain 54% winrates in Diamond for an entire season.

Whats the pickrate? Diamonds know when they can cheese with a Pantheon counterpick. I ask because his winrate looks like a freakin rollercoaster on the graphs.

Anyone with sustain can usually withstand his level 3 all in. Try trundle, Olaf, Vladimir, maokai. All built have in sustain and you have to respect his level 3,back off if you're low. Most top lane champions start out scaling pantheon as soon as level 6

Armor/level yellows and health/level quints?
You started Dorans ring instead of Dorans Shield? Yea you deserved to get poked to death by spears lol

You don't beat Pantheon in lane, you just survive and make him useless.

Except you can't do that either because he can easily get away with level 2 solo dives because his passive works on turrets. Besides, lategame Panth being "useless" is a myth. Oneshotting adcs, providing global map pressure, and being able to easily solo Elder Dragon at full build is far from useless.

You can if you play like a bitch, grab a cloth as your first item, and leave whenever you're low.

Most people can kill ADCs easy late and Pantheon would probably die doing it. He has to go suicide bomber and it doesn't always work.

I've been told soloing Elder Dragon isn't that impressive anyway, so I'm not really concerned there.

Leaving whenever you're low, against Pantheon, means abandoning the lane entirely and just letting him get your tower for free. You will never not be low against him.

Ok? Pantheon doesn't have ways to take towers that quickly outside of his base AA speed.

It doesn't matter how slowly he takes it if you can't stop him.

You're objective against him is to not win lane. It is to survive without him getting many kills.

Again, that's nigh impossible without 24/7 presence from your jungler, because he can easily solokill you under your tower at level 3 and walk away at full hp.

The Sword Saint2 votes

He really can't. If that is happening to you consistently it means you are playing it poorly some way or another. Whether the issue starts in champ select with your picks or with the way you are playing the lane, its definitely something you can improve on to avoid this happening to you without at least needing the enemy jungler to come and screw you over.

Even fiora who is hard countered in lane by panth can survive the lane and merely be down in cs and not dying repeatedly to him solo. If that means missing cs under tower when you don't have q up to last hit from range, changing your item build order to mitigate the harass and sustain, and recalling when you get low instead of trying to 'hold' your tower without jungle help then so be it. Later in the game he will simply lose against most champions in the split and also be less useful in teamfights as long as he doesn't get so far ahead early that such a point doesn't come until 50 minutes in.

Start cloth/4, let his mana run out.

His mana won't run out because the Panth player will have Corrupting Pot and the Meditation mastery if they know what they're doing.

I've never had a problem against pantheon with Karma or Morg.

It depends. DFT is better if you wanna be an asshole and make your lane opponent helpless. TLD is better for late-game oneshots.

those spears cost mana

start cloth armor and tough it out

Shen could probably shit on Pantheton actually. You can barely tower dive a Shen with his own Auto Block and you can rush start item 1006 item 1006 item 1006 which lets him sustain freely the whole early lane until you get some items going. Plus Rejuv Beads sell back for 105, I think. So you barely lose gold in sellback. Plus Pantheon's passive doesn't negate taunt so Pantheon could be an easy gank for your jungler.

Plus when Pantheon tries to Ult gank mid, or your Jungler. Shen can respond just as quickly with his own ult.

Just one of many options to consider. More goes into winning a lane than just the 1v1

That's the most helpful response I've gotten so far so thank you for that. I'll try it next time I'm against him, assuming he picked first.
