After playing brand for awhile, here is my thoughts

1 - His ranges are way too short

Not only that, but different from LB ( a short range mage ) or Annie ( a heavy aoe CC mage ) , brand can't easily farm like them without using a lot of mana. He also has bad sinergy with mana regen items, has no mobility, and his CC is very situational and single target.

2 - His mana costs are way too punishing

For a champion that, to a maximum potential, should be combo'ing all the time, his mana costs are way too high ( lb is also a combo champion, but her burst is more safe, and she has a LOT of mobility ). I think he need lowers mana costs OR more rewards on hitting his abilities ( maybe a buff to W damage, more range spread on his E to minions, dk ).

3 - His ultimate needs to be prioritize champions more

I hate when I ult someone, and the ult hits them only once, and the rest it hits the minions.

4- His AP ratios are way too short.

His abilities are not even spammable. His Q has only 0.65 ap ratio, his W 0.6 and when the target is ablaze, 0.75, and his E has 0.55. Only his ult has a decent ap ratio IF it hits the same target 3 times

"Bad sinergy with mana regen items" ...It's synergy, and the hell are you talking about? Brand loves the CDR on Morello's and Athene's, and the Grievous Wounds especially helps doom people to his burn. Brand's got plenty of range, perfectly fair mana costs, and wave-clear out the ASS. The reward for hitting his abilities is your enemies melting. And if you want his Ult to prioritize champions, LIGHT THEM ON FIRE FIRST.

Lemme fix your title for you: "After playing Brand for a while, am not very good with him."

His most popular build doesn't have any mana regen. He has little range, don't know why you think otherwise. I do think his mana costs are way too punishing, since to push the backline minions he needs both his W and E. Your enemies always melt if you hit your abilities. Brand has nothing special, since his ap ratios are not even that high, and his base damage are OK. Only exception is his ult IF he hits you 3 times with it, than it does insane damage. A single bounce of his ult doesn't do much damage at all.

Like any well-designed character, he has strengths and weaknesses. If his range was any longer or his cooldowns any shorter, he'd be too strong. His high mana costs and lack of mobility are his weakness.

If you've been playing Brand for a while, you should know that his ult does prioritize champions, as long as they're ablaze via his passive. Like you said, he's a combo mage, meaning you have to manage his abilities (including his passive) properly for each specific situation.

I will say that he could use a mobility buff, maybe, like a speed boost when his W hits a champion or something. But really, I think he's fine as he is. You're not giving him nearly enough credit for the crazy damage of which he is capable.

Brand is a pretty scary opponent when played well. I don't own him so my experience is merely from the other end. His AOE damage and team fight presence are downright horrifying. The only weakness I see in him is his complete lack of mobility.

A Brand that hits his skillshots is an absolute nightmare, whether he be support or mid. I've never played him myself, but I always dread a Brand who has any form of experience. He's "good".
