Why is Ahri so immune to nerfs?

Zero Skill Tank··22 votes·2,625 views

Ahri is, with extreme consistence over patches, one of dominating forces in soloQ, with god-tier winrate and pickrate. Extreme safety provided by her kit can not, in any way, be viewed as healthy gameplay. Why is she so immune to nerfs?

I know that the answer is "weebs", but I still want to ask the question.

Because she doesn't need significant nerfs.

That's not even the full Ahri Nerf encyclopedia. Your missing volumes. So many of the same champions sit at top 20 win rate and have a measily dinner grocery list of nerfs. If that at all... Did I miss something... I'm confused ???

Looking over the series of nerfs, definently would reccomend focusing on balancing other champions. I mean every single spell in her kit has been attacked. Looked at and altered. Meanwhile so many other champions have yet to see the same attention.

That it's not her full nerf encyclopedia and that she consistently remains as one of if not THE highest winrate mid and highest playrate mid in soloq, may give you an idea of the power of this champion. Hint: very damn strong, and she always has been.

Zero Skill Tank2 votes

So uhhh... in last 3 years she received 2 BUGFIXES, while being extremely dominant in solo queue nearly all the time.

That's pretty much what one would call "immune to nerfs".

In any way, even if you missed something, those nerfs as clearly not enough to put her on par with other midlaners. Quality > quantity.

Dynikus10 votes

She doesn't need more significant nerfs because she's already on par with other midlaners. She's good in solo queue, and likely always will be. But she's not overly oppressive or unhealthy. The reason she doesn't receive major changes is she's actually decently balanced.

Troll for Trump3 votes

She has more counterplay in her kit than a lot of champs, since so much revolves around skillshots.

You could argue the same for Ez, but the difference is his interaction with Sheen items, since Autoattacks are targeted. When IBG Ez was popular, you would just need to get IBG, and it would remove the "skill" part from skillshots

Ralanr2 votes

The only thing I don't like about her kit is her foxfire. Everything else is rather fine.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Foxfire +TLD is annoying.

Other than the name "foxfire" it doesn't really synergize with her kit. I get you can get close to people with your R, but still.

WalkingInACircle2 votes

Its a deliberately weak ability. Ahri is required to get close to have kill pressure. Doing this without getting CCed is a lot of playing her.

I know that the answer is "weebs", but I still want to ask the question.

Ahri's biggest weakness isn't so much a weakness, but a lack of strengths.

She's safe, although not the safest. She's a lot more susceptible to pre-6 ganks and targeted CC than most champions are. Excluding that safety though, she's really not "great" at anything. Her damage is mediocre at best - she's largely outdamaged by other mages who have larger range spells. She's as squishy as anyone. She's really skillshot reliant (yes, W and R are targeting but Q and E are the real core of her kit). She's a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none who is never the wrong choice, but also never the optimal choice for any team. She's got a high win rate and pick rate because of that though, being usable in every situation means that someone can choose to main her and play her in every situation and get really good at her and stick with her.

MagicFlyingLlama8 votes

R easily dodges nerfs.

Raxistaicho7 votes

She's not nerfed massively because she's actually balanced and you're in the trap of assuming that winrate = strength.

Ryze and Azir, even at their most broken points, usually had sub-50% win rates. Are you gonna tell me those two champions weren't broken as fuck?

Ahri has a higher win rate than most because she's easy to pick up, but her win rate only fluctuates from 48 to 55% between 0 and 125 games. Ryze goes from 42% to 60%. Syndra goes from 45% to 60-f***ing-4%. I'm sure you'd call both balanced to garbage just from first glance.

She's balanced. You just can't properly read winrates so you don't realize it. /Topic.

WalkingInACircle6 votes

Because she's balanced.

rtbf761092716 votes

lol yup

Her being strong is a product of the meta. She hasnt been changed in so long. She is hard to gank (gank all day snowball lanes meta) does true damage (poppy nautilus) and can cc initiators really well with charm

Before preseason she was average. Now she is just good becuase the meta suites her. That doesnt call for nerfs imo

Derfel5 votes

Most of the plebs that play this game refuse to believe this, but Ahri infact does sell infinitely more skins than Veigar and as such gets much more favorable treatment in terms of balancing. It's why Ahri got 300 bonus MS as compensation for the DFG removal and Veigar got deleted from the game.

Or you just are not good at mid. You sound like a mid main that cant lane against ahri.

You know people used to say the same about Zed but now Zed is not complained about anymore because of items being changed around? Yeah, zed wasnt nerfed, items didnt fit him anymore. Ahri is versitile and is not set in a single kit like someone such as Zed.

Out of curiosity though, i havent checked, but are you a zed main? I just used him as an example because he was a pretty classic "complain complain complain complain complain" forum pick.

Interestingly, if a zed main cant win lane 9 out of 10 times against ahri, they should probably not be playing this game.

Zed and Ahri actually share the same problem when they are strong in the meta and that is that they can kill you without hitting their primary skillshots. I cant count how many times a noob Ahri killed me by ulting around me and spamming W, missing both procs of Q and ofc missing the charm. Same thing with Zed, he can 1 shot you with his ulti by just hitting E and 2 autos. Curently Zed is nerfed, but Ahri still remains, my sugestion is remove the ulti damage part and buff something else, maybe her late game damage which honestly isnt as great as many other mage's.

Targon3 votes

In my opinion, Ahri is one of those champions who is strong when she has a lead, but not invincible. Maybe that is why she doesn't get nerfs.

Divewing3 votes

Because she's fair.

She leads with a skillshot, her poke is a skillshot, and the brunt of her finishing damage is short-range.

It's the opposite reason to why people complain about yasuo. It has nothing to do with how "strong" he is, it's to do with how obnoxious he is to play against.

Kukan Seishin3 votes

Here is why she is balanced. Half of her damage is skillshot Her laning phase/early game is weak If she falls behind, her damage is actually pathetic Almost all of her counters are meta rn, aka assassins in general And then to top it off, the only thing she can really do is not feed in lane because of her r Otherwise, she is good in solo queue because she has pick with her e, and I believe pick is broken in solo queue, like blitz thresh naut and so on. She is hard to play in team fights as she is a medium range assassin Thanks for listening. Ahri main here :)

Risk of Fate2 votes

Because I think any changes to her kit would probably kill her entirely.

If you remove the movement speed buff on her Q, now Leblanc Fizz Diana Yasuo can now catch and kill her. This goes for her dashes on R, but more about that later.

W doesn't do any noticeable damage and provides a form of protection on being engaged.

E will admit is strong, but It's not comparable to Morgana's Q which lasts for 3. When Opressor was a mastery, that gave her pretty free damage.

Finally her R which, while I'll admit is annoying, is somewhat balanced by it has only three real uses: chasing a target, escaping a fight, or re-positioning in a fight.

The thing I tell everyone is that if you can dodge her charm, they should immediately turn on her as she just blew an important engage tool and has one of two choices: commit to the fight or get out. Pre-6, jungler should be coming in to gank her and force a flash. Without it, she doesn't really have much escape and I've found myself at the mercy constant ganks to make my day horrible.

Tankier champs like Anivia Volibear Vi can easily get on her to force her ult which is an 80s cooldown. Without that, she has no reliable escape tool so ambushing her becomes easy. If you can get at least 3 people on her at a couple angles, then you're going to get her easily. The worst thing you could do is RUN AT her which is just begging for a charm to the face.

I think Ahri is fine, but that's my bias talking cause I main her, yet I can see how she can be OP. If you have one on the enemy team, just gank her a lot, dodge charm, force her ult to escape and for the love of god protect the carry. Ahri is, at her highest potential, an assassin. She excels at 1v1s and at the highest 1v2s. She's an effective teamfighter, however her potential drops significantly if she's not on a squishy target.

SnugglePuggle942 votes

Just sayin though I've been able to catch Ahri with Diana. In fact my favorite moon lady counters her :p

Risk of Fate2 votes

Well, I mean she'd have an easier time of the job. Facing a Diana in lane is probably the only real challenge I get anymore since Yasuo pretty much abandoned lane for top. I miss my spar buddy. These days it's just LeBlancs and Luxes which aren't really that hard for me anymore. Granted LB does a ton more damage now than before, I just have to wait out the passive then go in.

She'd let anyone out of bronze if she was actually god-tier (even if she have one of the most winrate atm).

And she's simply on a good spot every time. A little remind: she got her heal and her E nerfed during S5, and her E was, again, nerfed during S6 (if I remember well, Lb doesn't deal her dmg, but that's probably me).

She's also played by bad players/first timers, so if we delete them, she'd have a very high winrate atm (like any other champ, but, w/e).
