With Patch 5.8 comes "Black Cleaver", the changes to "Blade Of The Ruined King", and MUCH MUCH MORE!

Personally, I think is going to be seeing a lot of love with this patch thanks to the changes to Black Cleaver (which pretty much replaces Last Whisper on his build order now) and the addition of Life Steal to BORTK's passive's damage. I played him mid lane before this patch and he was pretty viable, but this will likely help him spiral out of control in the current tank meta.

XinZhao Urgot MonkeyKing Fiora Darius Garen Hecarim Zed All of these champions, except maybe Hecarim and Renekton, scale pretty hard with this item now with the 20% CDR and 30% armor shred ((Albiet you gotta stack it first)) But its quite strong, I wouldn't say its OP though, I tried the new BC on Renekton and man its good, his w hits 3 BC stacks lol. As for Hecarim he has his q which can stack it fast, and with the movement speed bonus its good, not sure if it stacks with Triforce though, if it doesn't then I'd just stay with triforce and forget BC on Hecarim.

"Urgot" I almost laughed, but then I realized how ridiculous Black Cleaver will make him. You want escape his Q's? Good luck when he gets 20 extra movespeed each time he uses it on you. I wonder if he gets it during the entire duration of his E, just by the DoT physical damage? Also, that 20% armor shred on his E will make the enemy have 50% of their original armor against Urgot. Also his passive will be making them do 15% less damage. Also, that 20% CDR will allow him to itemize even better. The Black Cleaver will replace his need for a Trinity, allowing him to go Iceborn Gauntlet, so he can perma slow while getting sped up.

Oh my god... Urgot will be the king of this meta... Lord help us all.

I think RekSai is really going to benefit from the extra CDR, armor shred, and HP from item 3071 . The phage passive is just icing on the cake and helps her stick to targets.

Maybe now our favorite Void Queen will actually be a carry jungler once again instead of a high mobility pseudo-tank knockup bot.

With 400hp and 20% CDR, you might just see ballsy supports picking it up. Not likely, but could happen in normals.

Oh you know Shaco is going to benefit from cleaver so much. Just think with item 3158 And some cdr runes, you will have ad shaco with ap shaco cdr. Want to see a magic trick?

New cleaver is bad on almost everybody. It ruins build paths for anybody that builds it except maybe urgot.

How so? It provides more than Last Whisper in every department, except a personal 5% armor shred, for only 700 extra gold. I can see every champ using this item over Last Whisper now (except those who built Trinity already).

BC is not a replacement for LW. LW is instant 35% armor pen, no stacking required. BC takes 6 hits to stack completely, and while your team will benefit from this shred in addition to you, it's strictly worse for burst damage. BC is a different item with a different purpose; the CDR, health, and stacking armor shred is suited to a sustained damage play pattern. Old BC was far better for the purposes of burst damage, with both higher AD and some flat armor pen, not to mention the better build path (early brute beats early phage, even though old BC had a high combine cost).

Phage being part of the build path is both a blessing and a curse. The movespeed is very useful, but there's always the problem of overlap. Do you like triforce? I hope you like wasting gold, because phage says fuck you. Iceborn is an option, but the damage output is significantly lower on it. It's the same problem triforce used to have when phage slowed the foe instead of speeding up yourself; mallet was a cool item that you might have wanted to get for the consistent slow, but it wasted the built-in slow on triforce. They finally fixed this by making mallet its own item and introducing the ms phage, but now the problem is back, just in a different form.

The build path for it is ruined on all champions that rely on early game brut. Old cleaver gave the same ammount of shred, with some personal pen ontop. You gain 10% cdr and a mediocre speed boost for the cost of a practical build route.

I sincerely think that Garen is the new Renekton now. And this time, he actually has a strong passive and a target execute to murder squishys with.

Add in the fact that his W is seriously underrated, and that Black Cleaver gives him a bunch more mobility now with the Rage passive. He's going to be fotm toplane once the smite top laners die down.
