Can we talk about Evelynn?

I like playing Eve, but recently, it's like... I just can't. That last nerf adding a mana cost to her W was totally unnecessary, and completely missed it's mark. It's not going to make her mana hungry when she's got Runeglaive, it just makes her early game even more trash than it was.

Seriously, early game is just so painful on Eve, which is odd as some refer to her as an early pressure jungler. You have 535 base health, and like 585 with runes/masteries. Even with flat armor seals, flat AD reds, flat AP Quints and Glyphs, which is as much early game power you can get before the game begins on Evelynn and what almost every Eve runs, the jungle camps still leave you with like 100 HP after your first blue and red, assuming the enemy jungler didn't kill you and/or jack the second one.

Early on, you can't do anything on Eve. You'll take 10,000 damage from jungle monsters, your damage is meh, your W is a meh gapclose and the most you'll do usually is burn a flash You have no CC. Eve's early ganks, which is supposed to be one of her strengths, are nothing special early on. You cannot fight an even skirmish 2 v 2 or 3 v 3 against anyone, and even in a 1 v 2 or 2 v 3 there's a good chance you and/or your ally might die. Not to mention, with that mana cost on W, your mana issues are really bad, although you might not notice because youll lose all your HP and Mana just clearing your jungle.

The thing is, the latest nerf only cripples Eve harder in the early game. It still doesn't make her mana hungry with Runeglaive , which is what the intention was. Riot nerfed Eve because of Runeglaive, and as a result she's useless until she gets it.

TL;DR Eve's early is trash, and continues to be trash until she gets Runeglaive and Rylai's, because she got nerfs due to her synergy with those items and is nothing without them. Riot, please do something to ease the pain of Eve's early game.

Unless I just need to git good, then feel free to downvote and tell me as such.

Ok, I can see your point, here's what I run, my Jungle route, my items, etc.

I take Ignite and Smite because having some true damage in there is great. Magic Penetration Runes, 8 early magic penetration is far better than 20 or so Flat AP, that's going to add, what 7 damage to your Q? When you can get magic pen runes, get some Scaling health runes, armor runes, and some movement speed quints. When I buy items, I leave Hunter's Machete, and get 2 sightstone wards, default ward, and some health pots, I go down, ward the bushes on the enemies red and blue buff, go take Krugs or Gromp, once that's done I use my Movement Speed quints to get down to whatever buff they're taking, wait for THEM to take it, q, e, ignite (I map mine to the 3rd mouse button), q, run off. First blood, blue buff, and early advantage, I then go back, get my Machete, and start clearing, starting with the usually respawned krugs or gromp. Then I take Wolf or Raptors, making sure to take the Little Raptors first as 3 little raptors = the damage of one big raptor, then I take scuttle to regain health, see if I can gank, etc.

Here's the build I use.

item 3708 (I take Chilling smite for the CC that Evelynn lacks and the True Damage, true Damage is God, especially early game when Champions are squishy, 100 damage on a 800 health champion, that's 12.5% of their max Health Right there, then you Ignite, and there's 200 or so health, 40% of their health gone, ignoring all Amor and MR) item 3285 item 3117 item 3116 item 3143 (For some more CC and overall Tankiness) item 3089

Any champion is good if you think about, their weaknesses, (her lack of CC, Squishyness, etc.) cover those up while finding items that still compliment that Champion.

Also for the lack of mana, you don't even really need Blue Buff, since your passive restores mana, and when I go in for a gank, I use my w after they've slowed me, or to get out of under a turret, not to rush at them since I have the CC from Chilling Smite, etc.

Also, just be smart, what would you do if you were behind, being counter jungled, etc. Plan and Predict, I have Ludens and Mobis in there just for roaming, with Alacrity you should be hitting nearly 500 MS.

Also, don't play Evelynn on a team comp that doesn't have alot of CC, or aren't very bursty. And ESPECIALLY don't play against champions like Ahri, Graves, LeBlanc, etc. They will stun you and their team will collapse on you, kill you, and then it's a 4v5.

The problem is that you're doing the camps alone. Get your top laner to double jungle the first two camps with you. You'll take no damage from the first two camps, your top laner can tp to lane with 5 health pots no matter their starting item, and a smart bot lane will use the spare time to take the gromp or krugs themselves to get a level advantage (you can help them by smiting it). With pots you should be near full health and level 3 after the red buff, and you can go gank freely when no one is ready to respond to it. Making kills happen at that point is pretty easy unless your opponents play so cautious that your laners can take advantages on their own.

The main reason she's been so strong at high-elo play, even in this patch after the mana nerfs, is because she gets early game support from her team. She's been balanced around the assumption that she'll get that support. If she gets it, she's still a high-tier jungler. Don't play her without it.
