had 70 mr at level 6, and she had a codex. i popped my w, and she still bursted me to 10% with her combo, ignited and then q'd me dead.

yep nothing wrong with the balance right now. just a pure AP burst mage killing the anti-mage with 71 MR at level 6 like its nothing

Assuming Annie had counterplay was your first mistake.

You are Galio There for Useless.

How much health did you have? You can have 300 MR and still go down real quick if you don't have any health.

Well if you are at 40% and only have a chalice yes she can burst you to 10% with a combo through your w. And even still the heal you'd get from w should negate the ignite's damage 1 for 1.

Honestly I think you are lying. The only way a mage can 100-0 you through your w and the mr a normal galio would build is if their first item is void staff and they have around 5 levels on you. Because through all the mr and the heal your w gives you, a full health galio should survive any burst. Heck, when I used to main galio a while back if I get ganked all id do to escape is pop w and walk to turret since it literally negates over half of the enemies damage.

I've come around, and I do think that Annie really is a problem. I don't know what exactly need to be done with her, but her simple kit and high burst damage makes her scary. Along with the possibility of an AOE instant cast stun makes her very hard to deal with.

I actually really hate playing as Annie because I feel she is just so linear to play.

How to play Annie:

Step 1: Stack Passive

Step 2: Nuke enemy team

You have now mastered how to play Annie.

2 things probably need to happen before players stop complaining about Annie.

  1. Her passive needs to be able to expire. No more holding onto that stun forever.

  2. Her ult needs to be a missle, a lob skillshot, or have some sort of cast time. Make it easier for people to react as it is one of the most gamechanging Ults in the game if used with Annie's passive and every other big AOE ult has a travel time or cast time to it. Gragas, Sej, Ori, Malphite, Sona, Lux, Leona, and others all have some sort of reaction period in their ults that allow it to be dodged given you had the reaction time and tools to do so. Annie feels bad to play against because players feel like there was nothing they could do when Annie Flash-Tibbers them. If Annie receives a change to her R in such a way described, she could actually receive a buff to its range and would make her less reliant on her Flash.

I feel like she is long overdue for a small scale rework (think Ashe level). And I wouldn't be surprised if this happened in the next year. We'll see though.

Don't let a burst-caster wear you down so they can drop you. You need flask or healing potions to keep your HP at max if you're going to try out-tanking someone.

Being tanky stops being useful once you're effective health becomes that of a squishy. When you only have 40% of your max HP remaining - you are no longer a tank, you are effectively a squishy.

Also: tanks are pretty fragile during the lanning phase. Mostly tankyness comes from items and is more of a mid-game thing. Don't go in with the mindset you're an unstoppable juggernaut.
