Grevious Wounds from Bramble Vest should apply to champions you use basic attacks on

The reason I think so is that the only healing reduction item tanks have access to is completely, utterly useless against mages

and oh boy, some of them do heal

I see no reason why tanks should be able to reduce Aatrox or Darius healing WHILE ALSO buying armor, but not Vladimir or Swain healing

The way I see it is Bramble Vest/ Thornmail should apply uppon taking any source of physical damage because as it is if Darius does not auto you but he does q you and your team, he does not get grievous wounds and receives the full healing.

Currently, Executioners calling applies uppon dealing physical damage, not just auto attacks. (Darius can apply grievous wounds with q but not receive it)

And Morelonomicon applies uppon dealing magic damage, not just spells.

so why is Bramble Vest/ Thornmail so much harder to apply.

IMO reduce its armor by 5 and let it apply GW when hit by any damage.

Because there is no mage that is dominating or even strong in any of the lanes tanks are played on?

The one ''mage'' that is doing best in toplane for example is Vlad. And he barely qualifies because he is more of an AP fighter that a mage per se.

Also an armor laning item vs a magic damage threat is silly.

Buy executioners if you want to reduce their healling on auto? There is an exact item for what you are asking. PLs don't be THAT entitled. It's 800 G and your autos will even do a bit more dmg

Or...you know...get a magic resist equivalent or thornmail or a good Magic resist item in general?

Get executioners. Or ask your AD ally to get one.
