The issue with that is you are the one with the power in lane phase. Lane phase is decided by the better support player. ADCs just smash cocks together and hope they win, support dictates how that plays out. Ask anyone that's higher Eli that plays bot lane and they can tell you the same thing. ADCs have support because they suck ads without one. So telling the ADC to "prove themselves" in lane is flawed because you are expecting a very team reliant player to solo perform so that you will then judge whether or not they are worthy. Plus as said, we get shit on a lot. No matter how the game goes, it's my fault. Top fed J4 7 kills, "why are you 1/5" probably because J4 shits on Ashe. ADCs are such a demanding role, having a team that blames you is what makes them tilt. We don't normally have a bug safety net of utility, or tank, or mobility. We have maybe one defense tool and damage, so the burden to perform is greater then most. Even damage mages can get a Rylais and at least slow people if they can't kill them, ADCs can't do that.
As a support player, I am in charge (not alone) of generating plays for the team and of outplaying the plays of the other team.
This has value not only when I do it off the ADC, but also when I do it with the jungler, and mid and top lane.
Because all the team can benefit from my assistance, and my ability to act is limited, I have to make the decision for the benefit of the team where my efforts give the best results.
The idea that my efforts are always best rewarded by sticking to the ADC is junk - have you ever had to deal with a fed enemy mid laner or jungler? If you just spent some effort ganking mid or ganking jungle, you'd have prevented that.
You are right in saying that lane phase is not ideal for judging ADC performance. But I have to make the decision for at least my mid game strategy by the time lane phase ends. So that is what I, as the support player, have to work with.
I think the idea of waiting for someone who's shown reluctance to dodging skills, inability to farm or trade, reluctance to rotate or push for objectives and excessive greed to reform while the mid game is happening and the enemy jugnle is all over the place and I can't even ward the map because the ADC keeps shoving his greed into indefensible positions so i have to chaperon 24/7 is busted. Allowing the ADC to die a couple of times at the benefit of our team's jungler or mid getting a bunch of kills and **objectives ** is more profitable....
...but then I run the risk of the ADC ("where is my support?!") rage-quitting....
Make no mistake: even though your job as an ADC is defined by your errors and you get deleted by everybody, you are still expected to bring home the bacon. If you are unable to put damage where it counts for whatever reason even if it was the support's fault, you have very limited value to the team.
And I am the first person on the team that must make decisions based on your value. So don't blame me when I make them.
as for rage quitting.
the no1 reason in my experience for ADC rage quitting is "the support has kills".
nothing tilts ADCs more than the support getting the kill. Even if they are not involved in it.
"lulu is 3/0" is apparently a valid reason for Draven to rage-quit.
