Saw my jungler hovering Evelynn twice in a row so I dodged twice in a row

Quepha··56 votes·3,422 views

Checked their match history later and the next evelynn game they each played they fed and lost

I feel like Neo dodging all these bullets

update: Up to 4 now. Not a single time have one of the junglers I've checked with won their next Evelynn game. Twice I've had them defend themselves by saying "this isn't my main account," but they still lost their next game.

I agree for ranked. I disagree for normals. And I hate people that ban Eve in normal.

Like, how are you going to know how to play against her? How are your team mates ever going to know how to play with her?

I got the reply of "co-op vs ai".............. like that thing works as a jungler.... and like that thing works for any high silver or higher elo people (which can 1v5 bots).

I forget about normal draft but I guess blind pick is kinda crap. Banning her in normals Is stupid but since people try hard in normals and want to win anyway, not surprising.

Edit: post makes sense now, I should stop posting from my phone.

Serika Zero4 votes

the problem with blind pick is: random roles. In draft you get most of the time, the 2 roles you've selected. Which is what makes it superior to the other way.

Thryale1 votes

yup, been trying for almost an hour now just to play eve in normal draft, but she keeps getting banned or taken from me. It's extremely frustrating.

UPDATE: someone banned eve yet again sigh. now I gotta wait yet another 15 min before I can try again

UPDATE2: been almost 4 hours since I started trying to play eve. still haven't gotten to play her once. I hate this game so much right now.

I have played primarily Blind Pick since I started and I have to say, the only time when it's really hard to get your role in Blind Pick is pre-30 and when a new Champion releases/a Champion is reworked. When it's pre-30, everyone really wants a role very badly so there are occasionally fights when two people want one role. People generally call stuff really quickly and instalocks are more common. When a rework or release happens, Champ Select is also fierce because people will be very quick to call the role of the new Champion and people might fight over who gets to play him or her. Instalocks are also more common because people just get fed up of not getting to play the new Champion.

When it's not pre-30 and the latest Champion release happened more than a week ago, Blind Pick Champion select is so chill. I've found that about half the people who queue up don't even call roles and just fill when other people call their roles. I see fights so rarely, and instalocking basically never happens. When it does, it generally hurts no one because the people in the lobby haven't called yet and they'll just fill around the instalocker. I find myself getting the role I want very often, and it seems like I get my main role in Blind Pick just as much as I do in Draft Pick, but I haven't recorded any data.

Blind Pick is just such a stress-free environment for me: I don't have to worry about counterpicks/pick order, queue times are fast, lobby times are fast, everyone else for the most part just wants to relax, there is no risk of my Champion being banned, and no LP is on the line. I basically never play Normal Draft unless my friends want to play it, Blind Pick is so much more fun for me.

This is exactly how i feel about blind. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say blind is filled with instalockers

I think they have a mostly false perception of blind pick because they saw how it was pre-30 but haven't really experienced it post-30. Post-30 blind pick is the best thing ever because most people who play blind pick post-30 play blind pick a lot. Thus, they know how to fill (because everyone gets to play a decent amount of every role when playing blind pick) and if the role they want gets called then they just take another uncalled role or kindly ask for the role they want back. About half the time they get the role anyways because the person who called it first is capable of filling another role and is nice enough to do it. It's great. Secondly, you basically never see instalockers because again, most people who play blind pick play a lot of blind pick, and they know that it's bad to instalock because they've seen the negative consequences of instalocking firsthand.

lets say eve got reworked. In this case, a lot of people in blind pick will want to be the jungler and try her out. So, especially when playing blind pick on a new release/rework, it becomes difficult to get your role.

And honestly, I'm more at ease with everyone having pre assigned roles since champ select. I also like to know what my enemy laner is playing before starting the game to adjust my runes if I'm playing mid. That are the things I like about draft. Also, the ability to ban lee in every single game unless someone in my team wants him.

I did say that when a Champion gets reworked (more specifically, gets a VGU), the generally friendly atmosphere of Blind Pick lobbies takes a turn for the worse. More people queue up to play Blind Pick than normal and those additional people are playing it hoping to get jungle and play Evelynn.

The same sort of thing will happen in Draft too, but it just won't be as noticeable. More people are going to select jungle primary, leading to longer queue times and people getting autofilled or put into their secondary roles because so many people are queueing jungle primary. Does the fact that the system assigned people the roles reduce the amount of champ select tension? In my experience it does not. I've seen fights over who gets to play the reworked Champion's role in draft pick just as much as I see it in blind; ie, not that much, but considerably more than on a normal day of draft or blind pick.

Additional problem is mirror matches (unless that's changed since I last played it eons ago in the dark ages of Mid or Feed)

Sorakas Pantheon1 votes

Mirror matches only exists in modes that are blind picks and most of the rotating game modes is blind draft so you can expect to see mirror matches in those.

SociopathFriend2 votes

I personally find Blind Pick pretty sweet. Yeah you have role-calling but beyond that you tend to have the most chill parts of the playerbase around. Like I get ragers and genuinely hostile people so rarely it comes across as a complete shock.

Cyrosi2 votes

Yeah, I'm finally at the level where I have enough heroes to have access to draft, but I still prefer blind. I just don't feel like I know enough about all the champions to play the more serious modes yet. Plus you can try out stuff in blind mode and no one cares. I guess people go to blind mode to learn champions so no one cares if you use a weird champion for a lane.

Lux top? Blind mode doesn't care as long as you don't intentionally feed. Soraka mid, because no one else will go to mid for some reason, and the guy you thought was going mid went to bot without calling anything? Blind is cool with that too.

Totally agree, if it were a normal game I would have played it out. However, these guys were first-timing what is effectively a new champion in Ranked. Clearly a free loss that I saved myself from.

Serika Zero3 votes

well, tbh, I'm picking random champs when people ban my pink intent and never group up to guarantee a loss. But that's for normals. One day, people will learn to stop being assholes and do stuff like: first time something in ranked or ban your own team's pick intent, etc.

Quepha12 votes

Sounds cool, I hope you get banned soon for admitting that you intentionally assist the enemy team.

LichKing2342 votes

But why would you first time in ranked no one cares if you first time in normals hell or even aram (if you get them) like thats the place to try it at but first timing in ranked where you know people are trying their hardest to win (well expect for fucking trolls and feeders and the afk after first deathers) basically giving the enemy team a free win or atleast a easier game since they have a feeling you would be a first timer

and you picking someone and intentionally feeding isnt solving the problem wait atleast a week so your team can atleast have some faith in you [sg-janna]

Evelynn is NOT strong. She has a really good early game (surprisingly) so if you're team has early forms of hard CC (Ahri, Caitlyn, Alistar, Maokai), then you can pre gank pre-6

Aaaand then she basically sucks for the rest of the game. Mid and late game it's really easy to play around her charm since it reveals your position once fully charged, and if a carry gets charmed they'll just say "Let me hug my tank for a bit"

She is only good at chasing people and dealing a lot of damage in a split second by late game. And that damage usually involves your ult since your E, even enpowered, won't do enough damage to one shot a squishy unless your crazy ahead. And forget Q in teamfights because it takes too long to get rid of all of your hate spikes. And once you ult, the problem is now that you have just left the fight, and it's very far away, so killing off the stragglers is even harder

And let me ask you: How the hell does she fit in the current meta of tanks and Ardent Censer supports?

She is pretty damn bad right now

Serika Zero2 votes

she seems like an AP assassin. Like Akali, Katarina, Diana, Ekko. From what I've played her so far. Which means: strong since lv 3+ until late game starts (which is generally at 3+ items, so, lv 15+ usually).

Highly recommended items for Eve: item 3136 item 3020 As they give a lot of flat pen. I don't think she even needs to get void staff since she has %mr shred on her charm if she lands the charm. So, even if the enemy squishy build an MR item, she should still do a lot of damage. But after this your dmg output drops as the enemy team gets mr, shield and heals and group up.

Also found item 3711 quite important on her over other smites.

Reletr1 votes

sorc boots seems eh. I prefer the extra roaming power from item 3117

Serika Zero1 votes

well, lets take a basic example of an enemy: Caitlyn . She has 30 – 38.5 MR. With runes, she gets 9 more MR. So, until she buys MR items, she has around 39 to 49 MR.

Then you have item 3020 - 15 magic pen item 3136 - 15 magic pen masteries - Precision - 0.25 magic pen per level. So, from 1 to 4 magic pen. Runes, up to a potential of 13.5 magic pen.

So, lets add em up. +15+15+13.5 = 43.5

  • lets say 2 (lv 8 champion) = 45 magic pen.

Cait at lv 14 she has 36MR and afterwards it goes up to 38.5 mr. Which means, with boots + mask you deal true damage to her until lv 14 ;) That's why we take item 3020 over item 3117

Tho, item 3111 and item 3047 are also options as a dead assassin does less damage than one that died getting one shot by the enemy adc or during cc duration.

And how exactly is she supposed to get in range of that cait when cait has an arrow pointing in her direction before she even comes in range and 2.5 seconds to react by either walking away (lol) or using an ability or just standing her ground and 3 shotting her with autos?

Serika Zero1 votes

same way all assassins do my dear friend. All assassins hunt targets that are isolated to some degree, by flanking behind and killing them.

In team fights, all assassin are having a hard time closing the gap to the carries due to their high damage and pealing from their team. The "get in range of cait", is a valid argument you make for every assassin, AP or AD in late game and team fights stage.

While its more straith forward for someone like Akali or Katarina. Evelyn has an easier time flanking the enemy team due to her invisibility. Which means, she will be either on a side or behind cait. And she will close the gap by running towards her once the team fight starts and cait pays attention to other targets. Because you join a fight after an initiation starts, the adc will often hav a small delay (0.2-2 seconds) before they notice you engaging on them from a flank. And once more, because of Eve's ability to sneak past normal wards, this means the enemy will have a distance of 700 units between themselves and Eve before they see Eve. Which is enough time for you to surprise charm and try to burst the adc. I'd also like to say that your Flash E is instant and very hard to react if you do it when you are in range of it. Meaning, the adc can react to your flash, but usually they do not have 0.1s reaction time and they get charmed, which gives you enough time to execute your burst true damage combo ;)

Also, mind you. By the time you finish the item 3136 item 3020 combo, you are not in the late-game team fighting state. You can at best expect cait to have IE and Runnans done, and maybe tier 1 boots.

Its much more easy to suprize and attack the enemy carries in alone positions in these conditions. I do that almost every game when I do play assasssins. Which is why item 3711 helps a lot. You can set up vision and see the enemy being alone in their own jungle, heading towards a lane, and maybe even have a lane ward to make sure there's nobody behind them. And this sets-up for very easy kills. While vision and getting seen can stop assassination attempts. Vision and seeing your target alone is also what enables assassination attempts ;)

PS. Eve's Q has 800 range. Her camouflage has 700 range. Which means, you can Q a target while you are invisible, while this will reveal you, you also are giving them very very little time to react.

I think opportunistic champions with a clear strength like burst + escape tend to perform better anyway when they are released, it's more straight forward. Sure you gotta get used to the spells, but then its not too hard to get fed.

Due to her amazing scaling she also doesn't fall off anymore. Even an inexperienced jungler can just afk farm and go for the simple ganks pre 6 and then start deleting enemies in mid and late game.

It sucks that you're determined to make for a poor quality match no matter what your teammates do in champ select. You should probably take the "it's all just for fun, I'm not supposed to actually try and win," attitude to normals instead of ranked.

I´ll happily deal with you figuring out a new champion in a normal game. But being forced to win an extra game to get to gold this month? No, I'll ban it. You can't be good at her yet. And why play something in ranked you aren't good at? That is what normals are for.

If you ruin my game by banning my champion

This is such a stupid statement, champions do not "belong" to you, there are 9 other players in the game who can possibly go for that champion and guess what?

5 out of those 9 players will 100% not give a shit if you wanted that champ, why you may ask? Because they are on the enemy team idiot.

If you're not first pick blue side then you can kiss eve and new champs good bye because people will ban it to prevent the enemy team from picking it up when the game mode is ranked.

I find that asking someone to pick a different champion in champ select has a 100% chance of making things worse. Either they start raging and lock it in anyways or they say nothing and switch, then play like absolute garbage for the match and lose anyways, it's possible they might be passive-aggressively attempting to lose the game.

I don't bother attempting that strategy anymore.

Verxint2 votes

I would suspect a lot of people aren't actually taking advantage of what her kit offers, specifically the surprise buttsecks burst and the ability to reach unique flanking positions. Most people are probably running into the lane from the river bush like they're playing Sejuani or Xin and expecting to succeed.

420 grams7 votes

It's not really surprise burst since she's visible before in range to burst.

Verxint2 votes

The surprise factor is more that she can sneak her way into unexpected positions. I doubt most Eve players are taking advantage of that, I rarely saw it before her rework.

Sun Wu Ryuumoku1 votes

Cause most eve players aren't good junglers... they were just good as old eve players.

Verxint2 votes

Yeah, not surprising that they made her kit involve something besides "Press W, Press R, Press E, masturbate the Q key" to successfully execute your burst and now they can't figure it out.

This happens with every rework, people try to play the new champ exactly the same and fail and blame the champion.

Her kit now is ridiculous. Sure you can take advantage of positions, but in teamfight situations the range of being seen is always in a spot where you're gonna be seen before you get to the squishy. As for her "burst" It's not near as strong as previously because you lost your tankiness, you lost your versatility, and you can't kill someone with a full combo without your ult. Your ult deals insane damage, but you're most of the time gonna have to use either it or flash to engage because the W takes forever and a day to proc. so they already know you're there, and you have to literally walk in range because you don't have a move speed buff anymore except on your E, which is basically auto range. All of your damage is loaded onto your W so if you can't kill someone with one combo you're dead cuz you're squishy af.

Not to brag or anything, but the first 3 games I've played of Normals as new Evelynn were a roaring success with the enemy saying "Eve went from trash to OP.".
