So can we stop pretending Ryze's ult is okay in its current state?

Honestly, Ryze's kit as a whole doesn't bug me. But his kit has enormous power and his ult simply gives him too much. Being able to Zhonya's and travel away in it is stupid. Being able to teleport a minion wave with it is absurd. Why does this champion need the potential of split-push power when he's already strong in lane, skirmishes and if played correctly, a god in teamfights? I don't mind his ult transporting allies but it needs to not work on minions or during stasis effects. His ult brings too much power to the table when you consider the rest of his kits enormous power.

His ultimate is the LEAST problematic aspects of his kit.

His machine-gun Flux->Q dealing over 1000 damage on a short cool down come late game raises a lot more red flags than his highly situational ult

I'll admit it's kinda funny to see big numbers when you hit his flux with Q late game.

His waveclear feels more satisfying that GP barrels IMO.

It does feel satisfying when I actually land his laser.

But with Ryze, it just feels beautiful to see your E multiply to other targets as you kill with your Q. I love Ryze's ability to amp his spells through combos.

I can honestly say, his ultimate is possibly the weakest part of his kit. It's good for utility, but your team has to know what you're thinking otherwise it's just a bad idea to press R.

Definitely beats the old, OP ult, though.

As someone said above, it's an extremely situational ult.

It's just very powerful in those situations. I don't dislike it at all cause I enjoy giving people utility to let them be useful when they are behind.

How would literal mind reading work either way?

Depends on level of control over the power I think.

If you have to focus to read minds, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you need to focus to not read minds, you might be screwed.

In my opinion it is OK in it's current state. Pre level 11 it has a VERY short range. Once it becomes useful, there is a lot of counterplay as if you notice where he's ulting, you can layer CC on it, and then kill him and everyone that goes through. (Zyra and Viktor are good for this) In SoloQ it is really hard to properly coordinate a team to use it optimally also so it is heavily gated in your ranked matches unless you play as 5.
