Viktor tried to destroy me, I ulted him every fight since he was the priority. I could tank Lucian/Riven/Sion, but Viktor could kill me. You can get away with not building MR on malphite if your focus is to ult their AP and kill them, and Viktor (or Veigar) would be easy to do this against.

It's only name and shame if you post their actual names. And Malphite is fine against Riven, the only time she can kill him is early. And his early damage/trading isn't bad, you just have to be smart and play the first few levels back. If Riven wants to trade, she's forced to trade in a minion wave and push it. So you eat some harass from her but she's never a threat to kill you if you aren't stupid. Then you farm out Sunfire and proceed to shit on her if she tries to all-in you.
I admit Riven should never really die to malphite with all her mobility but if the lane goes even, which its not hard to do, Malph outscales her pretty quickly.

The matchup is in Malphite favor early-mid, where armor is cheap and shut down Riven's early, until riven get some items, he do not outscale Riven, but rather Riven outscale Malphite IF she build properly. His build gave me cancer, Titanic is shit if you don't build HP and and hexdrinker is kind of unnecessary. Better build some lifesteal so she can't be kicked from the lane maybe ?(What a surprise ! You need to build accordingly to your opponent, who would've though ?)
I don't know how the game gone, but i can tell you that she definitely didn't put the odds on her favor.

Now let's say that both of those champions, for whatever reasoning . . . built flat penetration.
Flat penetration removes stats as a whole but not in percentage. So Lucian built 
which are all of the flat penetration items, they would remove about 50 armor from the 300 armor Malphite, so the damage reduction would be around 65% instead of 70%, so Lucian would do obscene amounts of damage to people with low armor and no damage to people with high armor. Reverse . . .
Lucian built like a normal adc and built 
He would do devestating damage to the Malphite because he would take away 45% of the Malphites armor, so let's so that 45% is actually 50% just to make things easy. So now Malphite has 150 armor compared to losing only about 50 armor from the other build. Lucian would do tons of damage to Malphite regardless of his armor with these items.
Flat pen = Squishy damage % Pen = Tank damage
