Dynamic Queue, the reasoning/need for it and its abuses

**Playing with your friends is more fun. **

Riot's stated reasoning for Dynamic Queue thus far has essentially been playing with your friends is simply more fun and the best way to experience League of Legends.

I agree with this statement to some degree. Yes LoL is often more fun with friends and I think that most people feel the same way. HOWEVER, there are also times where I would simply rather play alone IN SOLO QUEUE.

Arent there enough ways to play with your friends already?

There are several existing ways to play with your friends already.

  • Aram
  • Normals
  • Duo Queue
  • 3v3
  • Dominion
  • 5v5 Ranked

There is a pretty obvious reason that ranked 5v5 isnt more popular. Quite simply its often difficult to arrange for 5 of your friends to be online at the same time, particularly if you want everyone to be of similar skill levels.

So whats the void that Dynamic Queue tries to fill? Ranked games with parties of 3-4 players.

One obvious flaw and question that the current implementation of Dynamic Queue introduces is whats the point of Ranked 5v5 if you queue up with parties of 5 in 'Solo Queue'?

Conclusions

What LoL is lacking is a means of playing ranked with a group smaller than 5 but larger than 2. Dynamic Queue is however a flawed way to go about introducing this.

  1. It ruins the experience of 'Solo Queue'
  2. It ruins the 'competitive integrity' of rankings; bad player could easily be carried to a higher ranking by getting carried in a group
  3. It will probably create very lopsided matches where people who are consistently able to field a group of 5 friends with good coordination will dominate games. Ive already established the difficulty in getting together 5 friends for ranked 5v5, so the few people who are able to consistently do this in Dynamic Queue will have a huge advantage
  4. It creates the feeling that playing 'Solo Queue' with large groups is the BEST way to play in order to gain ranking

I think that Riot really needs to look for other solutions to playing ranked with friends that dont involve destroying Solo Queue.

You do know it que's you up with other people in bigger groups too right? its not putting 5 random people vs a 5man group.

No, it tries to queue you up with similar-size premades. It's not a guarantee, particularly for high-MMR players, who already had issues finding games.

Even then, Dynamic Queue muddies the meaning of ranks. Before, you could make reasonable assumptions about a Gold2's skill level. Now, someone who belongs in Bronze or even Diamond could be Gold2 if they purely queue as a premade. The premade tier restrictions don't apply if that Gold2 mostly plays with their premade.
