It has 60% Ap and its meant to wave clear. while costing 130 mana. But wait lets buff Fizz. #RITO

To be fair those buffs remove ad on hit fizz from the spotlight and are turning him back into AP fizz.

Making the OP active on W part of the passive so it costs no mana moves fizz away from on hit builds...?

Earth calls Roronoa:

Passive: Now also deals 4/5/6/7/8% of target missing health OVER 3 SECONDS. Active: No longer deals 4/5/6/7/8% of target's missing health as magic damage ON HIT.

This means that you can hit someone a billion times, and you'll damage with the passive by 8% of mh, instead of 8% of mh times * a billion times. This means that the ability DOES NOT SCALE with AS any more

Its base damage and ap scaling are pretty poor for a 10 second cd, 130 mana cost ability. It can't even clear the caster minions. Other mages' main damage/waveclear spells for comparison:

Lux E - 10s cooldown, 240 base and 60% AP scaling. 130 mana. Orianna W - 9s cooldown, 250 base and 70% AP scaling. 110 mana. Syndra Q - 4s cooldown, 264.5 base and 69.5% AP scaling. 80 mana. Xerath Q - 5s cooldown, 240 base and 75% AP scaling. 120 mana. Ziggs Q - 4s cooldown, 255 base and 65% AP scaling. 70 mana. Viktor E - 9s cooldown, 250 base and 70% AP scaling. With evolution, 350 base and 98% AP scaling. 110 mana. Ahri Q - 7s cooldown, 280 base and 70% AP scaling, with half of that being true damage. 85 mana.

In every case, Lux's E has the lowest base damage, lowest AP scaling, highest cooldown, and highest mana cost. All of these abilities aside from her E clears the casters in one cast. In other words, her E doesn't kill a single minion by itself until late game, which lets her be shoved under tower and roamed on. This is actually a huge indirect nerf in season 5 due to minions' buffed health, which took away her ability to wave clear but not that of other mages.

Yes, it has utility, but most of the time the slow on it is lost because you either detonate it immediately or the enemy walks out of it. Vision is good, but I think the downsides are too many for too few upsides. On a 10 second cd, I don't think upping the damage a tiny bit so it can kill caster minions is going to break it.

Edit: made a mistake with Viktor Q vs E. It's been fixed.

Raid Boss Morde3 votes

Since when did Viktor's Q deal extra damage when evolved? It just gives him a movement speed boost. I think you meant his E, which in this case, only deals full damage if they sit in it. Also, it doesn't slow. I can argue with most of these that they don't slow.

flibitydoo6 votes

orianna's waveclear is a combo of Q+W (usually for the caster minions, then another Q is tossed at the melees to clean those up) Syndra's waveclear is a combination of Q+W+E (not necessarily in that order) Xerath Q clears the backline, but he still usually has to clear the tanky melee minions with W 1 Ziggs Q does not clear a minion wave. Ever. Usually E is thrown in (or additional Q's). Viktor doesn't use Q for waveclear. I think that's a typo and you're talking about E. E is not even half the cast range of Lux's E. (compare Lucent Singularity's 1100 cast range to Death Ray's 525 cast range). Really Vitkor should be classed a short range mage like Annie/Swain/Cass (but unlike those dudes, he builds pure squishy due to the durability granted from his Q) Ahri I don't play, but usually when I see her clearing a wave, it's Q+W plus a bunch of autos.

Twisted Fate's Q is a much better comparison for waveclear. I see it commonly oneshot the whole wave (or at least the caster minions) Although technically wildcards is entirely damage. It does not slow, it does not grant vision (I've killed a lot of people in the fog of war randomly because of wildcards hitting them which is why I know this). Cassiopeia's QW+EEEEEEEE not only clears the wave, but gives % max mana back. Usually she stays at full mana because of this. this does require Cass to be farmed/fed to achieve. Zed tends to build armour pen/botrk. neither of which enhance his waveclear than building flat AD would (armour pen doesn't increase damage against targets with 0 armour; which minions have 0 armour, and also BotRK gives 25 AD, which is tiny). Lulu isn't even played solo lane anymore (or played in general), but her Q has a much lower mana cost (and also much lower damage, but a much stronger slow).

Lux's cooldown being greater isn't by much. Most of these abilities have cooldowns ranging from 15 seconds to 6 seconds. And Lux's E is a flat 10 seconds at all ranks (which beats most of these abilities through ranks 1-4 in cooldown). Even then, we're talking about a 1 second difference in most scenarios.

It would be nice if the base damage at rank 5 of lucent singularity could oneshot the caster minions. I've had it happen before where I could oneshot the minion backline (but only when very fed).

More like are you. Lux outranges almost all the above champs in comparison. She is very "safe" as all her abilities have a very very long range in comparison to most mages. She can sit outside of your threat range and chuck a spell. The base and ratio might not be as good, but the range is superior. What she lacks in damage she makes up for with utility and safety.

Double Rainbow3 votes

Well, but if she stays safe, she can't use her passive if she stays out of autoattack range all the time. That's falling even more behind other mages. I don't mind damage on E or AP ratio, just lower mana cost a bit.

Note: Oriannas wave clear requires two spells or poor positioning, and when used aggressively is fairly easy to evade. Lux's waveclear skill can be charged to do hit a wave that essentially isnt smart enough to avoid it, and when used to poke, it is increadibly hard to dodge even just the base damage, plus her passive can be dropped on top. I've never liked the skill, but I accept it for what it is. Lux is a support who can mid, she doesn't need a buff, unlike orianna or Morgana that have similar support functionality, they can't freely swap between the two lanes as easily as Lux can, or be a damage dealing support, or go mid and give massive shield buffs to allies in teamfights followed by ultimate. Have you ever faced a team with lux and morganna, or lux and jannah. The two are basically tanks with the constant shield drops and massive CC

TastyMmmYum3 votes

Morgana swaps between lanes much more easily than Lux does. In fact, she's been played in all 3 lanes in the LCS. Orianna has gotten some picks mid, but never support. Lux hasn't really gotten any picks at all. Lux support is pretty subpar, and apparently the pros don't think Lux mid is worth it either.

Asdeft9 votes

It is kind of high but you have to remember: It has an AoE slow, long range and it is really hard to dodge if you throw it and detonate it quickly. Still absurd for a basic ability though.

Meeks0116 votes

AOE slow doesn't mean shit if you detonate it quickly.

meanwhile xerath has to aim for bullseye in order to make any damage and slow

She is an immobile mage, of course she isn't going to be picked in LCS since all those idiots ever pick is the overly safe champions with escapes up the ass.

FunkyyCat2 votes

Not trying to get on anyone's side here but Xerath is also an immobile mage, except he is a lot more popular.

SoSko2 votes

yes true be he way out scales lux's range

LeeDark3 votes

Not true. Immobile mages are perfectly acceptable in the LCS if they have range. Lux's problem is not her lack of mobility, it is her complete uselessness at doing damage.

Silents4292 votes

What immobile mage is being played during the LCS? That isn't a rare pick.

LeeDark2 votes

Annie is commonly picked, and she is an immobile mage. I know that you want to say, "But she is picked as support!" Guess who isn't: Lux, despite having MORE support abilities than Annie, while still being able to harass and CC from a distance. Lulu and Morgana are both common picks, and neither has any serious mobility. Lulu can speed up, but that isn't really what we think of when we are talking about mobility being important. Orianna and Syndra have both been picked, though both are less common. Lissandra has a little mobility, but it is predictable and easily countered if she tries to escape with it. Just CC her and the ability ends without her using it.

Oh, and I got those from just ONE WEEK in the EU and NA LCS. I didn't even have to look at the entire spring split.

For future responses make effort to organize your thoughts a little bitter, instead of making a haphazard mess of ideas.

Annie is commonly picked, and she is an immobile mage. I know that you want to say, "But she is picked as support!" Guess who isn't: Lux, despite having MORE support abilities than Annie, while still being able to harass and CC from a distance.

I want to say you misunderstand why Annie is being picked as a support. First she has a reliable point and click 1 - 1.75 second stun. In comparison. Lux has a skill shot snare.

Annie also wields much more potential damage Pre 6 and at level 6 her early game burst is insane. Unlike Lux, who usually requires to poke others down, and can miss her abilities.

You can argue Lux having a Shield as well would somehow make her better as a support, I guess? But her shield has a cast time and still has to reach a target, and it doesn't really have good base stats early making it pretty lame.

Lulu and Morgana are both common picks, and neither has any serious mobility.

Morgana has a 3 second snare, a MR shield, an Ult that potentially slows then roots 5 people. Her puddle also allows harassment.

Much better then Lux.

Lulu can speed up, but that isn't really what we think of when we are talking about mobility being important.

Lulu is a champion that has caused people to yell profanity at the computer many times. And I am hoping I don't have to list all her awesome CC abilities and how they are better then anything Lux can do, Do I?

And no sadly speeding yourself up IS mobility.

Orianna and Syndra have both been picked, though both are less common. Lissandra has a little mobility, but it is predictable and easily countered if she tries to escape with it. Just CC her and the ability ends without her using it.

Lissandra has mobility. Not "little" mobility. Mobility. Her team fighting potential is also massive, same with Orianna.

Allow me to restate what I implied before. Lux isn't picked not entirely because she is immobile, it's because unlike the champions you listed if she gets caught or does something stupid that is it for her, she is doomed.

And while you are thinking she has CC and a shield and blah blah, It really doesn't matter. She doesn't bring to the table what the other mages are doing, and that isn't a fault in her design. She is a long range mage, and does it well.

LeeDark2 votes

I like how you go through each one, explaining how they are all much stronger than Lux... WHEN THE FUCKING POINT OF THE THREAD IS THAT LUX IS WEAK AND NEEDS BUFFS.

Her most direct comparison is one I didn't even mention, and is commonly picked. Xerath, the long range AP artillery, who has spells that do more damage, with lower cooldowns, for less mana.

So, thanks, I guess? You made a pretty good argument there for buffing Lux, even though you meant to say she's fine. Perhaps you should organize your thoughts a bit better next time.

Silents4291 votes

Weird I recall explaining why LCS players don't pick her, I don't remember saying she didn't need a buff or anything like that?

She is an immobile mage, of course she isn't going to be picked in LCS since all those idiots ever pick is the overly safe champions with escapes up the ass.

slôw1 votes

She doesn't get picked because shes a middle ground champion, there are champions that clear better, there are champions that do more damage, there are champions that have more cc, there are champions that are harder to gank.

shes also not so good against the current common picks and teams nowadays don't need her strengths and there are champions with less weaknesses.

She's in a good place in solo queue. Just like caitlyn, just like jax, just like nami, just like riven

darkdill6 votes

Doesn't need the 1:1 AP ratio, but yeah, it does kinda suck as Lux's primary wave-clear tool.

SleepyLionCub5 votes

Lux used to be fine. Back when it her E could actually kill minions late game. Then, in pre season they buffed minions to make them tankier. Now lux has a 130 cost E that can't even be used to farm effectively

Amarajah5 votes

Reminder that it is almost impossible to dodge until you get into the higher MS, and even then it's mostly on the Lux whether it hits or not.

BLU Medic3 votes

For 130 mana, you can cast most people's ultimates.

Godhri1 votes

This is a good point. Why should her E cost more than an ultimate? It makes zero sense since the CC effect is actually quite negligible. Activating the passive after hitting E also puts her in a pretty dangerous situation. At most, her mana cost for E should be 100. At the lowest maybe 80-100.

BLU Medic1 votes

It should scale upwards. You use it for farming, right? Make it start at 80 at rank 1 and scale it upwards to match minions.

SoSko2 votes

then again her passive proc does more then the other mages in duels so use your range wisely and poke effectively... auto melee E 1 shot minions with auto its not that bad since she out ranges everyone but Xerath

You talk in a way that makes it feel like it is pretty easy to lux to actually auto someone mid after using a ability.

I think the best comparison to Lux is Morgana. Both have almost identical kit except for R. Both have root with different duration and number allowed, both are line skillshot. Both have area denial with long duration, both are circle skillshot. Both have shield with different effect.

I did some suggestions before, so I'll repeat here again. Morgana W alone can kill ranged minions. Lvl 3 with small ap ( doran ring ) + game time < around 10 minutes, her W can kill ranged minions. At lvl 4, she won't need ap items at all to do it. At later stage of the game, her W alone can clear a wave with some positioning to include siege and melee, and add her Q to siege one.

Lux require some change to be like that since unlike other mages who can combo their kit to wave clear, she don't have combo for wave clear unless you want to R a minion wave every 30 sec. ( you call her R as low cd skill ? Try Blitzcrank ) And no, she don't have ability to clear entire wave since she only able to triggering her passive for 4 times depend on her attack speed which I think no one will build for her.

Here is the suggestions for her E :

  • make enemy effected by her E receive more damage depend on how long enemy stand inside her E.

Reason : Look at Morgana, range minion keep standing still for entire W duration. Her W mechanic is a DOT with recalculation for bonus damage depend on missing HP, more dying = more damage. So let's change Lux mechanic to some kind like that. Rather a DOT, keep her detonation control but allow detonation damage to scale depend on how long enemy stand inside the field. Example : 5 sec standing still = 100% more damage. Number can be tweaked to be like Morgana entire W duration total damage.

This can help her damage output vs champs too. Morgana poke combo usually is Q + W.... and that's painful enough depend on Q duration and W lvl. She can continue with self E + R. Lux is quite the same, Q + E. But without AA trigger which technically she need to do with her W on, the damage is quite small. Of course you can snipe with R, but once again, you need to AA trigger R effect for more damage. Early game, triggering AA is quite less painful for Lux. At late game, try to do it can result in suicide. Think of the suggestion as reward for being able to trap enemy inside E field.

Cosnirak2 votes

So many people here who think Lux's E can be used to poke AND clear waves..... If you poke with it you don't wave clear, and vice versa. You see that's the problem with it costing 130 mana. As long as the enemies don't stand too close to their minions you can only hit them by not clearing. And the moment you do cast and detonate the E they can even stand on their minions for a nice 9ish seconds if they want before having to move away.

And all that safe range crap means nothing when you have to walk into AA range to actually finish the minions off. Cut her E's mana cost AND range in half and I bet you most Lux players would rejoice. Safely poking enemy champions doesn't mean anything if you still can't kill them and you can't farm minions at all.

Or Veigar's old cage

Champions like lux, malz, and galio however, seem to have high mana costs for no reason. Take lux for example, and compare her E to Syndra's W. Syndra's is easier to hit, does more damage, and has a better slow, while costing 30 less.

Mana is a good stat on Lux (as it is on all mana - based casters), but there's no room in her build for a mana item, because she needs both mana sustain AND cdr.

Yeah, they need to cut the cost to something like 60/65/70/75/80. Her Q mana cost is also pretty ridiculous at later levels; 90 mana at max rank is ridiculous... it should be 50/55/60/65/70.
