Why is lucian immune to nerfs ?

option paralysis··66 votes·34,600 views

He has a fucking 53% win rate with a fucking 25% pick rate for literally months. If his pick rate was like 1-2%, I wouldn't say shit, but he's so overtuned that he's in every 4th game and still has a 53% win rate. So why is he immune to nerfs ?

yeah still cant understand why they buffed his Q, that wasn't even what made him lame, it was his lack range and E requiring 40% cdr to open up his potential overall. One day he will be nerfed and when they do god I hope they just revert his Q damage ratio so he can go back to being a decent pocket pick and not be made irrelevant. I love playing the champion, but aint gonna lie that buff was stupid worlds pandering bs.

Because his strength is a sign other adcs are too weak. He is a stat-check for bot lane. The real solution is to buff the terrible ADCs.

Same could be said for Lissandra's strength mid lane...

As LS said, Lissandra's oppressive because the rest of mid sucks.

Thefrostyviking3 votes

LS was hella two faced with his arguments there though.

He recognized that the reason Lissandra is a high tier pick is because the picks there cant beat her because she aftershocks them and then just ignores their damage.

Then he suggests that the solution to this is to buff all the others to the point where they deal enough damage to win......like what? He asks for enough damage to break through aftershock? As if this would not result in every single buffed mage becoming insanely OP compared to the rest of the game?' ' Furthermore he actually shoots himself in the foot hard there too, he actually mentions as you do that Lissandra and lucian are both strong in their lanes because others are too weak to deal with them, but then he goes and calls the crit item changes a bomb that will have terrible impact on the rest of the game.......when the intention behind those changes was exactly to do what he suggested for midlane, buff the other marksmen up so they can fight the top dog being lucian in this case.

He recognizes that this is a problem down botlane but doing the same midlane is not a problem?

I cant help but feel that his statements reek of hypocrisy there.

Yeah the point is that the crit changes have been knoen to be bad for a while. Riot has the intention of making this a fun game accessible to new players, yet it doesn't turn out that way, just like Crit changes haven't fixed anything.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

....What about the crit changes have been known to be bad for a while?

I havent really heard about this at all?

' What i heard is that people complain constantly and nonstop that true damage is too high, damage at all is too high and building resistances only have them ignored feels like shit.

How is removing true damage from infinity edge and changing it to be like a nerfed edition of the previous one getting less damage out of it then bad?

Infinity edge lost true damage entirely, lost some ordinary damage, phantom dancer lost attackspeed, armor pen became vital again and picks like lucian are much more likely to drop a bit once the initial rush settles down as his counters got buffed with these changes.

What exactly, is bad? Plenty of things people complained about and asked for have been adressed.

200220121 votes

If you were actually concerned about ADC, you'd know that the crit changes were thoroughly analyzed. In the end, it was concluded that the crit changes will actually make ADCs worse than 9.2 and before.

The point of Infinity Edge having damage is scaling into the late game. Infinity Edge having true damage was never the problem - multiple champions, most of them damage dealers got easy access to true damage.

Lucian will not go down because crit is even worse now and none of his items got nerfed lol. It will literally be only Lucian and Kaisa viable, you'll see.

Crit is worse and more expensive now and you end up having less crit and AD for the same money. The only somewhat good thing for crit ADs was the PD change, which resulted in Yasuo becoming super oppressive and didn't help ADs at all.

The intent of the changes was to solve many of the unhealthy aspects of the build though? In addition to fixing things like the build being too expensive and having wasted stats that you could not avoid wasting.

True damage being so abundant was the problem, this was a step to solve that.

Crit is better early game than it was before, its a shift from in when they are good which is exactly what lucian does not want to see, he wants to bully slow scaling marksmen and end the game before they have a shot at getting going.

Marksmen that previously needed like 4 items to get going properly (item 3095 item 3094 item 3031 item 3087 ) now get into the game already on item 3031 item 3094 .

A notable difference.

Crit is worse and more expensive now and you end up having less crit and AD for the same money. The only somewhat good thing for crit ADs was the PD change, which resulted in Yasuo becoming super oppressive and didn't help ADs at all.

Less AD for the same money? Yeah because now you have to build item 3036 instead of that item 3080 /item 3139 you had in addition to the GA.

But its very little, because new IE grants 10 more AD and lord dom 5 more than before as well......wait doesnt this mean more AD early? Oh yeah, stronger early.

More expensive? Well yeah 25% crit was lost if you built 3 crit items being zeal item+zeal item+IE......or rather 40% crit chance was lost.

Did you know? Previously crit marksmen overcapped crit by 20%, which is about 800 golds worth of stats,.....this combined with the price reductions is already a whopping 1200 gold saved.

Expensive builds+wasted stats? No wonder they were so weak!......In addition these changes solved a massive health problem the game had with critbuilds.

Previous one would just get 3 crit items, hit 100% crit, get true damage then just get lifesteal or whatever becoming able to kill tanks and squishies quickly and easily.

Now you have to actually choose, do you want a 4th crit item or do you want armor pen? Good against bulky fellows or squishy ones? This addresses a ton of frustrations people had with the crit marksmen.

So what happened? More AD early, less expensive build, a option dedicated for survival if needed (this was extremely badly needed!) but in return they have to choose between anti armor or anti squishy capability as their specialization, although they will remain pretty good at one even if specializing in the other.

Overall is this not good for the game and the marksmen you think? That survival option is exactly the biggest issue most had.

more like he's 1 of the few ADC's who are strong at all stages of the game, if that's what riot wants then they gotta nerf their crit items significantly, not ok for an ADC to be strong early game, mid game and late game

Lucian's issue is his synergy with botrk, Press the Attack and cleaver.

He needs some direct kit changes to weaken (not gut) the synergies with those items.

Many champions use BoTRK and Cleaver and are not an issue so nerfing the items is out of the question.

Lucian is definitely not strong late game, though.

Lucian is definitely not strong late game, though.

he is, every ADC in the game is strong late, ranged ADC's are inherently strong late game, sure ADC's like say twitch are STRONGER late game but lucian is still strong late game

{quoted}

I mean aren't ALL ADCs inherent stat checks?

this is also true which is why the lack of counterplay from ADC's exist, they either our stat you with right click with 0 counterplay and you die or you outstat them and you win

The only adcs rn that are "terrible" are Varus, Kalista and Kog'Maw.

Tobykachu2 votes

Both statements are true. Lucian is too strong, but yes, other adc's are also too weak. Until Lucian is sufficiently weakened, other ADC's simply cannot come back into the meta.

Thefrostyviking7 votes

Riot determined that the reason Lucian has been so good for so long is becuase all the other marksmen suck by comparison, especially his counters, in addition to it being a highly favorable meta to him overall.

So while they admit that he might be overtuned they are also certain that he is not overpowered last i heard.

Supposedly his 500 aa range is the reason. Which is stupid because the rest of his damaging abilities have longer range.

TyroneWatermelon2 votes

Literally 0 IQ argument. OP told you that he's at high winrate and high pickrate, it doesn't matter if he's ranged/melee/adc/tank/assassin/afk.

Nyarlathοtep2 votes

The fk is your problem? I just said the SUPPOSEDLY (and possible) reason why he usually avoids nerfs. His low range can be exploited. Giving him a clear weakness.

TyroneWatermelon2 votes

if he has high winrate AND high pickrate for MULTIPLE patches then MAYBE his weakness isn't clear enough.

Sir Saltarin1 votes

That's still a terrible reason.

If a low range ADC has for months and months a huge pickrate and winrate is not weird that ppl asks for nerfs, as they are doing on this thread.

And you know what? It doesn't matter the range that he has.

Nyarlathοtep1 votes

Well dont tell it to me. I dont agree with the reason by any means. I just stated one reason. I do remember the one that said lucian is easily exploited.

TyroneWatermelon4 votes

A few patches after his legendary skin he lost his protection, he got nerfed a very little bit last patch, and they want data on how the marksman item changes will affect first him to not "overnerf" him before he's gonna get an actual nerf

Jinx... 54% win rate 19% play rate.

She has 58% winrate in Masters+ globally + a decent 5% pick ratio. Now sure 600 games is a small sample but still.

To be fair, they were trying to wait and see how the crit changes hit him. He was running over crit Marksmen in lane while scaling faster and with cheaper items. Now that crit marksmen have better items, they want to see if Lucian himself is worse or better.

I really don't want to say this but to me, any champion who is cool to watch and too strong to me just feels like Riot wanting to balance to maximize profit from LCS viewership.

420 grams2 votes

He was picked to be meta.

200220121 votes

He is not overtuned, other ADs are trash. The only ADC counter he has has recently been buffed, he lost damage on W, lowering his burst by a little, so I wouldn't say he's immune to nerfs.

Weiner the Pooh1 votes

That W wasn't a nerf, that was a placebo. 90% of Lucians max W last. It was something that wasn't eating up power budget, and could be nerfed while essentially leaving him in the exact same state but Riot can say they brought him in line.

200220121 votes

You know, you saying it's a placebo is very interesting. Lucian wasn't changed since 8.18 actually. I was just checking if you are in touch with the game. You've proven you aren't. In fact, what's worse is that you didn't even check the basis for your argument. I guess better luck circlejerking next time?

Weiner the Pooh1 votes

Lucian was buffed before worlds when he was already strong. They buffed him because they wanted him played in worlds. Hes been in need of a nerf for a long time.

Champs can be stronger than for one patch. Lucian has had one of the highest ban rates + play rates + win rates for a long time. The fuck does his last buff being in 8.18 have to do with anything.

How am I out of touch with the game? I play several games a day, what basis did i need to check? In fact i checked to make sure what % of Lucians max W first. Its a very small percent.

Considering the nerf hasn't even gone through yet, so yes as of now he is still immune to nerfs.

Because he hasn't ever had a 53% win rate except on Op.GG which only uses stats from Korea. Yet that's the only place people like to use stats from when talking about Lucian for some reason.
