Proposed Illaoi changes to her E and R to make her more healthy to play as and vs

Right now her entire kit revolves around having her E and ult up. In lane if she misses E she has to play a bit passuve or walk around awkwardly until it comes back up. If she lands E the other laner can almost never retaliate unless they are ranged or super mobile.

If she has E and ult up you can NOT ENGAGE on her or it is certain death. If she misses E when ganking her she will almost always die or kill nobody as her E is that important.

The gist of it is that Illaoi relies too heavily on her E, if it lands she will almost never lose the fight or will harrass the shit out of you. If she misses she has to run away or if she cant she will lose the fight almost certainly.

Im not saying she is OP or UP, just really frustrating to play as and against.

She needs her E to lose a lot of power and have her R slightly tweaked. An idea I have is as following:

E no longer damages the actual enemy champion but now has a way longer range. When E lands the spirit is untargettable, lasts 5 seconds, but the enemy champion has a debuff that causes multiple tentacles to spawn between the champion and spirit causing them to slam toward the enemy champion but now the champion gains increasing movespeed toward the spirit and must get within 550 spell range(think Darius pull range) to reclaim the spirit. If the champion does reclaim the spirit all the tentacles from E despawn. If they dont reclaim the spirit the tentacles still despawn but now they get a heavy debuff for 20 seconds that works the following way:

New E debuff: You failed the test, spawn a tentacle every 2 seconds within close range of each other that slam towards you once every 8 seconds. Dodging a slam intended for you lowers the debuff cd by 2 seconds and killing a tentacle reduces the cd by 2 seconds.

Leveling up E only reduces the mana cost. Cooldown is a flat amount of 20- 30 seconds. The movespeed the champ gains toward the spirit would be relatively decent.

At level 13 the spawn rate is every 1 second for tentacles.

Now that is a lot of power lost in her E. Before she would E R and you would take 140% damage because of the spirit transferring at level 6. Now her E is for strictly testing you. Her R gets compensation for this to make up for it.

R: Same as live except when Illaoi uses it the aoe it damages causes an aoe buff zone a little larger than the ult aoe damage for Illaoi only but a debuff for enemies. Ult now spawns a flat amount of tentacles. 2/3/4.

Illaoi buff: Her W is on a 2 second cooldown and enemy champions her R get slammed every 2 seconds while Illaoi is inside.

Enemy debuff while within the zone: Tentacles will slam on you every 2 seconds while you are in this zone and Illaoi is in it (but if you just got targetted you get a debuff to not be targetted for 2 seconds except from Illaoi W.)

Change gives Illaoi very clear pros and cons. Dont fight her in the aoe zone but if you need to kill her get her out of it.

Thoughts?

Your E replacement suggestion would be 100% negated by any and every dive oriented top laner, IE: most of them. A much longer E range would necessitate faster missile speed and doesn't particularly mesh with the rest of Illaoi's kit which is short / medium range.

At present Illaoi is a potentially strong top lane bully that tends not to be all that spectacular in team fights unless the rest of the team is built around locking down the enemy team in a tight spot. Furthermore her ability to do well in lane can be pretty heavily countered by a little bit of well timed mobility. And, even if she does do well in lane, she'll have a difficult time contributing in team fights unless there are specifically synergistic team mates or won lane so hard she has both the damage and durability to get off multiple skill uses during ult all while getting spammed by the entire enemy team; which is rare.

At present, Illaoi kind of strikes an odd balance as a "win lane/ lose game champion." While that might be considered a bad thing by some, I really couldn't get behind any changes that undermine the fact that, as a champion, Illaoi is unique. Your unrelated suggested changes don't really make a great deal of sense. Your post doesn't identify where Illaoi is strong, where she's weak, and why/how either or needs to be amended.

honestly illaoi is in a good state right now, maybe reduce the healing on her ult but i feel like antonine more would break or destroy her
