How does doran's shield work vs single target Dots?

Like Teemo poison, malzahar space AIDs, Brand passive, etc

Does it block 8 damage for each tick, block 8 from the total damage, or not affected at all?

I'd like to believe one of the latter two since the first one would be broken as hell

Doesn't block DoT's. However, it does calculate block damage before resist.

I kind of want to believe that it doesn't affect it at all. That's what i'm leaning toward.
