Anybody else misses those Diamond Ranked Games on the bottom right of the client?

Arcane Blue Boi··100 votes·17,684 views

It was removed long ago, but i would still like to see it again. They were very insighfull, to see how soloq was played in the higher elos. I used to learn a lot from them. Earlier today, i was spectating a diamond friend of mine and i realized how i missed this feature. I hope riot has plans to bring it back

EDIT: aand it was buried. ;-;. Well thanks for your support anyways

They are actually still in the client, to find them, do the following :

  1. Launch your client and connect yourself.
  2. Go in "Profile"
  3. Then, go in "Ranked"
  4. Click on "Solo/Duo" on top left of the screen, and select "Top Solo/Duo Players"
  5. People with an eye after their name are in game, and you can spectate them by right clicking on the eye.

Yeah but that's so buried in the client to where most people aren't even aware it exists

It just used to be a tab on the main menu and you could click on one of 5 random active games. Now you pretty much have to seek out a bunch of names on the ladder and find one that's in-game.

What? It is so obvious, how could you miss it. /s

Even then it is not very useful. You cannot see what champ they are playing, what other champs are in the game, or how far into the match the game is.

Not everybody feels the need to click every conceivable combination of buttons in the client to see if there's nifty stuff there.

You can also watch the replays of your favorite players. Since a few patches ago, you can download and play the replays of other players' ranked and clash games.

Whoa, really?! This comment needs to be pinned. @Chermorg , where art though?

I never was able to make this one work.. it is always a message "Game unavailable, please refresh page" or just that no one is playing, which I found kinda strange O.o

I miss it. Sometimes I'd watch if I saw them playing a champ I was learning. I wish they'd bring it back.

I don't think anyone being spectated really liked this feature. I had to constantly clear out friend requests because they kept getting capped.

I actually liked it. I enjoyed helping people and it never hurts making new friends.

i remember befriending someone named R.I.P. DFG, and he gave me some neat leblanc tips (i was learning lb at the time)

I'd much rather get to watch random games than watch twitch streams at this point. There are just so few twitch streams that are educational, and the ones that try to be still feel limited because I can only see their screen.

I used to click through the thumbnails of the matches, looking at the characters played. I eventually would notice patterns

Haha i remember that

If you didn't know, you can actually still spectate challenger games in client, it's just moved off the front page. Go to the ranked tab and choose any of the three challenger ladders. Any challenger tier players who are in game will have an eye next to their name. Right click and choose spectate.

I should become a Twitch streamer... But everything will probably end up becoming all Corki/Lux/Ziggs-related.

That is how I learned the game.

The main reason they removed it is to prioritize focus on streamers and youtubers so extra profit margin. No one can say it was because no one was watching because that just isn't true.

Streamers/youtubers give you pretty different experience from watching it in client by urself. First of all you have no control on what will you see. Second i quite possibly will prefer to silently watch my game in silence without some obnoxious shit making a clown out of himself. And if he aint doint that and just streaming silently then again - i will be better off just watching replay of his game. Due to the reason i listed first.

I way rather watch games in client and control camera myself than watch a stream

Smitemuffin2 votes

Yeah. XXoXoXX was the top-ranked Viktor main but he doesn't stream, so that's how I watched all his games and got gud

Diamond games have no value they are 10minute shit stomps. I quit 5mins in everytime i try to undecay now i gave up left it decay from d4 to p1 and ain't planning on coming back for no border.

I actually hate twitch.tv and the "twitch celebs"

I just want to watch random people play their games

I didnt ask for entertainment of game comentary, i asked to be able to spectate whats happening in a soloq diamond level game, which includes being able to view all cameras, gold, itemization, recall timings, etc...

I didn’t watch them, but it was nice to see the champs and get a glimpse of the meta before queuing up.

Why was this feature even removed anyway? Also with honoring opponents? I feel that these are things we should have had back by now.

rtbf2256182411 votes

Yeah and i don't really want to go on the Ranked tab and feel like i'm stalking some people specifically. I can't see their game lengths on the Challenger ladder and i can't know what the score is. They could easily re-implement this with a live score feed so we'd know what is going on.

Velasan1 votes

It would be great if there was a way to spectate higher elo or specific champions at said elo.

I mean, yes Twitch and Youtube do exist, but it's nice to have it in client.

Bisaknosp1 votes

i miss them too loved this feature

Modl Ryden l1 votes

I personally rarely used it. Maybe once or twice when I was new to ranked and wanted to see what the whole hub-bub was about ranked. Now there's a lot of resources to watch high ranked matches all over Youtube. I'm certain websites also have spectate options for players in Diamond+.

Despìca Bìll1 votes

Yeah, I'd love to see this feature added back in. I hate having to wade through someone's stream BS to see the game. I'd imagine that's why they removed it, though. Some kind of copyright/profit infringement.

I'd love to see this again as an on-screen option somewhere.

I remember someone asking for the same thing 2 years ago or so.. one Rioter did respond to it, but had no clue why did the team who worked on that removed it

Edit: This was the topic - Where is spectated mode
