The answer to this question sucks.

  • When you feel ready to take a champion into ranked, you are. Learning is best done the hard way, at any rate.

how many game should you play til you rank in general ?

or one champ ?

well i say in general at least 150 normal wins (not vs bots ) ideally 300 wins for a champ at least 15

good rule of thumb is mastery level 5 per champ you want to play in ranked before you take a champ into ranked.

Doesnt matter. U wont improve until u bring it in ranked. Its best if u just bite the bullet and start in ranked

I can think of at least 4 people who would say, "Fuck no!" to that.

Maybe, but thats how u improve. I know when that coach LS was coaching guy who wanted to improve. LS told him to pick Rek'Sai (as she was meta back then) and guy didnt know how to play her. He wanted to play normal but LS told him that he should just spam her in ranked. He started with like 30% winrate in 20 games and after 200 games ended with 75% winrate and climbed

You can get similar quality practice in normals without doing it in ranked and losing MMR and rank while you practice.

And those 4 other people are the teammates the player would have when they first-time a champion in ranked.

It's not fair to ruin 4 other people's competitive game and cost them LP just to learn a champion. That's why normals and bots exist. Learn the champion outside of ranked first.

You can try, but trust me , once u get in ranked u will start with same performance as if u started from ranked immediately. U would have just wasted hours that u could have used to improve. Learning is best done the hard way. Normals arent there for learning. They are there for casual, no pressure play. Even if u play 50 normal games with champion, once u get into ranked there will be different environment and things u could use and abuse in normal wont work.

It is morally wrong to put 4 other players through the struggle of having a weaker teammate (due to not knowing their champion) and having a higher chance to lose LP.

At least ask teammates first and only do it if they are ok with it.

You negatively impact 4 other people's LP. When it is completely unnecessary because you have access to normals and bots instead.

Good video, he raises some great points, however that is not what I am talking about.

When you first learn a champion, you should play a few games in normals to get used to them so that you are not handicapping your team in ranked when you do play that champion.

That's not the same thing as playing normals all the time.

It's unnecessary to handicap your team because you could just play the one or two normal games and then start playing ranked without sucking at your champion.

get to mastery 4 at least.

It's more about how comfortable you are with the champion and how well you perform with them in normals. Some champions you will pick up right away, others will take more time. At the bare minimum I'd say at least 2 or 3 games to get an understanding of how they work. This number goes up if the champions are complex or if you play at a low skill level.

It's a variety of answers for a few champions. Simple champions you could get away with 1-2 games. Old Zac, Mao, or Naut right now are good examples of champions that are simple as hell and therefore don't need tons of play time to be ranked ready. (I took zac into rank 7 games in a row with almost no norms under my belt.)

A more difficult champion like say Xerath, Lux, Jhin, etc will take a couple of games. Probably 5-7 maybe. You need to get the champions abilities down and have a basic understanding of things with the champion. You don't need to be perfect but 5-7 games give you a good picture of the champ.

Now high skill cap champs like Lee, Riven, Azir, Yasuo, etc will take closer to 15+. These ones you need a lot of games to know what works and what doesn't because mistakes are heavier. I probably played 50+ games of GP before I took him into rank. Knowing the champion and being reliable with them is 100% more important with this level.

At the end of the day it's up to the champion and how fast you learn them. Even if you don't know everything about a champion, but you know the basics and can perform on them, then feel free to play them. If you pick Lee and can't insec with just Q+Flash, you probably shouldn't touch them in rank.

play it in int bots until you can finish 3 games in a row with zero deaths

then play vs players in draft until you are confident enough to win all your favorable match ups

What does it matter ? You're going to lose some and win some it makes no real difference honestly.

That is about consistently playing ranked vs consistently playing normals.

This discussion is about how much time to put into learning a champion before playing it in ranked.

Separate issues.

Inkling Commando1 votes

none. stay away from ranked. it is nothing but a cesspool of toxic players that don't give a fuck about anything except winning. if that is your thing go ahead. otherwise stay away from it.

Reaper Soraka1 votes

try to hit Mastery 5-6 with it first.

Unless you don't really care about climbing. then just go any time.
