Mana changes won't solve the mid lane waveclear issue
Ever since the mage update, we've had this issue of spam waveclear mages that are interactive. The mage update only changed some kits and items, not the fundamental mana working in the game. The mage update made Catalyst (and subsequently RoA) a joke item that only Ryze and a very few others built. It wasn't healtly before, but now it's a mostly useless item.
Meanwhile, a much stronger item, Lost Chapter was introduced. Having both damage, mana, and mana restore. I deeply consider Lost Chapter to be the cause of the issue. Yes, Catalyst gave mana, but it didn't give damage. Having damage on top of mana just lets to perma-waveclear at that instance of gold, which was a very cheap 900, even though it probably should have been 1100-1200 gold. Now it's within that range, but with the addition of cooldown reduction, another stat that allows mages to spam waveclear. This is just 1 of 2 major causes.
The next cause being champion kits. Who's been nerfed recently for both semi-global ults? Ryze, Galio, and Taliyah. All of these champions have another thing in common: High, spammable waveclear. Ryze's E has a very cooldown, and that boosts his Q's damage, and his Q's shield with speed boost makes sure people can't attempt to fight him as he just runs away. Galio is naturally tanky and has a regenerating magic shield; he can spam Q in lane to clear the wave. He's basically mid lane Gnar; a completely counter with no interaction. Then, Taliyah does the same with spamming Q.
All of these champions can easily roam with their semi-global ultimates and waveclear. That's a huge issue. Twisted Fate has much less waveclear than these three, and he's supposed to be the premiere roaming champion. Worse, all of these champions have a better ult when it comes to roaming. Ryze can transport multiple people, Galio can give massive damage reduction and a large knockup that forces people to never engage against teams with Galio making pro-play stagant, and Taliyah can literally wall people away from safety. TF can just get to the destination; everyone else gets an extra effect.
Maybe it isn't the mana on every champion or Doran's Ring, but instead Lost Chapter being blatantly overstat and champion kits that are perfect for roaming that it brings shame to the design concept that people with strong roaming power should be low waveclear.
instead of
? Did they think mages will go to it in place of Dorans? probably.
