Depends on the melee. Once you get your first advanced item, have a few points in your damage abilities, and time your engage so she's not focusing you while you try to start attacking, your bruiserishness will easily dominate her.

Unless you were somehow laning melee vs a Vayne (in which case, how?), this sounds more like a failure of your bot lane than anything else.
