Tanks are pretty pointless right now imo

Just lots of CC and damage is all you need. Tanks blow up like nothing. Maybe its just silver.

Sigh.

Anyways. Buff tanks yeh? Or nerf damage. Or idk maybe i dont know anything. Every time i have tanks on my team they just get insta dead every team fight. Not sure why I still get tanks on my team.

And I mean real actual tanks. Although sion is really good right now because of his early game and CC.

Sion is 46% wr mate.

Armour was a weak stat before the introduction of conqueror and now it is shit. Assassins build black cleaver anyway and aoe assassins actually shred tanks and help remove their armour. "Tanks counter assasins" but this is an assasin meta and tanks have low winrate. The celerity buff is an overlooked increase to damage that makes tanking anything even harder. Fighters get lots of tankyness from item 3053 so they are a more mobile tank that does lots of damage but has less cc.

Well I do fine with Sion and I still see him in challenger so thats what i based it off

Well yeah they are, excepting juggernauts but other than Yorick they arent the best fighters?

tfw 3/4 of tank roster has dashes with bigger range than flash while 1/4 of fighter roster has dashes that can barely move them through walls.

Turns out giving every bruiser a way to do true damage kills the tanks

Jaygo412 votes

Nobody acknowledging the clear elephant in the room that is conqueror. It certainly isn't ezreal keeping tanks from being played, they've coexisted before. But tanks and conqueror? Never. Nerf conqueror, clearly overpowered keystone.

Props to Hashinshin by the way for whining so fucking hard that he got his own keystone

Amumu Nautilus Malphite Maokai Sion Volibear barely seeing these champs tbh

Nyarlathοtep8 votes

But voli aint a tank.

ZackTheWaffleMan1 votes

This.

LordGeovanni2 votes

while true its not his main role he has always had that option. In the same way that Sion and Poppy were originally bruisers and even when reworked They are bruisers mostly with a tank option even if the tank option is more previlant which it isnt if you building 2 damage items which is what every bruiser builds save broken shit like yasou riven and fiora

Nyarlathοtep1 votes

So? Currently sion is a tank and voli is a juggernaut. It doesnt matter what their other build paths are.

kurnubego1 votes

I'm sure that the problem we are discussing is utility of building defense. Not 'tanks' as a class. Which is mostly felt by champions who utilize building defense the most therefor people refer 'tank'.

Ornn 44% winrate in top lane :(

Damage needs to be nerfed.

If tanks get damage buffs the power creep will only get worse.

Psybicilin2 votes

Tank melting with items like rageblade and bork is just way too strong. It would be nice if tanks actually did their job instead of assassinating squishy champions like Sejuani and Ornn do.

Elkington VI6 votes

Buffing tanks directly doesn't solve the overall issue. The problem is that the balance between offensive and defensive scaling is too lopsided, when they should be about equal. There need to be more late game scaling defensive runes.

The new rune system is just lousy in general compared to the old one. It's done nothing but exacerbate the problems we already have.

What kind of tanks are you talking about ? Never saw Sion in a while , his winrate isn't good either but , I really do well with him lately and he feels tanky af Volibear I see him from time to time , and he is pretty annoying to deal with Malphite Builds 1 AP item and kills your carries with 1 full combo and deals so much damage before he dies " if he died " I see Amumu a lot lately but they build AP so idk , Nautilus still annoying to deal with Sejuani was just played in NA LCS and she was good tho but never saw Maokai for a while except in urf tho I don't feel tanks are that weak tbh , they are immune to mages , their main problem is MasterYi Yasuo with that stupid rune , actually and assassins , Talon and Zed are pretty much melting tanks lately , but their main weakness was the adc role who got Gutted , Viable marksmen are Jhin who is bad against Tanks Ezreal Bad against Tanks Lucian bad against tanks Kaisa well she is strong against them yeah Vayne is pretty strong against " if found " I find her rarely but she is still dominating everytime I see her lol " That's just my personal opinion from Gold Elo , you don't really have to care about it or downvote it , just ignore it "

"Oh but if you pick Zed you're trolling" -everyone at any minor complaint AD champions have too much ways around armor, and AP champs have too little around MR, so Tanks are only really viable against AP champs nowadays it feels like. All this true damage, armor shred, and ap champs cant even get a mini void staff like a last whisper.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

The majority of the AP roster has always been terrible at dealing with tanks. Most AP champions are burst centric meaning that if you don't burst....you don't do anything. Annie doing 1/3 my health in one rotation as a tank means it takes 3 rotations or like 15 seconds ASSUMING I don't inflate my health pool at any point with a shield or some sort of heal (such as Maokai Passive). An actual sustained damage threat (which are almost EXCLUSIVELY AD because auto attacks scale off the stat as well) means that the damage is MUCH more constant and I won't be able to shrug it off nearly as much since my Naut, Ornn, Sion W won't be up almost every time they attempt to hit me.

So what you're saying is that tanks are everywhere, but they're not tanking. Wow, that's deep bro.

Infernape4 votes

It's because everyone (read: AD champions) have easy access to true damage. Armour feels like a useless purchase against any champ that uses Conqueror or Infinity Edge (bonus points if they use both). You get shredded far too easily (like Conqueror Yi with Bloodrazor and Guinsoos) dealing a shit ton of damage as unmitigatable damage.

kurnubego1 votes

I remember after hashinshin contraversy whine festival .. I've been pointing out what will happen. Sometimes I hate to be right. People suggesting balance chances have very very little oversight of how inertic meta is and how many variables there are.

Nyarlathοtep3 votes

Yet they are still able to buy a single mr item and completely ignore magic damage.

LordGeovanni2 votes

Bull shit Not being one shot but still losing 80% of your hp is not ignoring magic damage. While at the same time the game isnt balanced for you to be able to build more than one magic item and still function as a melee tank or Fighter.

Nyarlathοtep

??? A single mr dedicated mr item can reduce a mage's burst by 50% at the very least.

My Waifu Vanilla3 votes

That mathematically makes zero sense. No MR item grants 100 MR which would be the LOWEST amount you would need to halve damage.

Nyarlathοtep

Indeed it does. But thats how mr interacts with magic damage without magic pen.

My Waifu Vanilla3 votes

Okay. Let's say I RUSH a banshees veil. I get it by like level 9 on a mage. That leaves me with ROUGHLY 95 MR. That's 49% DR. Now let's put that against someone without it. 35 MR. 26% damage reduction. You go from taking 74% to 51% which is roughly a 30% increase in survivability. Not 100%. Not even CLOSE to "halving" the damage you take. Stop making baseless claims or you're just going to get proven wrong and look like an idiot.

Also, most MR items are in the 55-70 MR range with the combination of merc treads and hexdrinker also being in that ballpark.

Nyarlathοtep

You forgot something crucial. And the reason why mr items fks mages so hard (or ap casters on general). Hp helps against burst damage. And almost every mr item has hp too, so they get really close at halving it.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

I mean living with 20% health means you are literally never dying to any sort of burst centered champion on your own. If LeBlanc can only get all of the carries down to 20% on her own. She is next to useless compared to literally any other midlaner because at that point you're better off picking a control mage and being able to actually do something in a teamfight.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Ive been saying this long ago tanks arent strong CC is strong which mages assassins and adcs have more than enough of. This is also the reason why fighters find no use its because Tanking is not what top tanks do cc is what they do so no matter how much they rip sejuani's base stats to be worse than an adcs because she has 2 seconds of passive it wont matter because Her e still cc's What killed sejuani is that you now have to indivdual E stun which between the cooldown and delay isnt happening for any relivance.

Tanks tend to be strong against ap champions until late game. Ad champions tend to destroy tanks most of game.

It's the inherent difference between ap and ad. Ap tends to need scaling for most things, ad tend to need only 1 item (if that). With the meta being far more ad and true damage it's natural tanks are obsolete at the moment.

No it's all levels. I had 250 armor one game and got blown up by a 2/5 wukong for 2700 dmg by his ult alone.

Ah yeah what an idea. finally you can play more than 3 champions on top and this guy wants to go back to poppy/maokai/sion meta. Why not.

All tanks are still good. Tank players are just not used to having fair lanes.

FirewaterDM1 votes

tbh outside of like Mundo, Sion and Orrn (and sometimes even then) tanks...don't feel like they do enough.

Like 100% they're fine and or work IF the other team is like mixed damage, or mostly AP, or hell the one threat is a mage/AP assassin/etc.

IF the enemy team is like 4-5 AD, or it's a fed ADC/AD assassin your armor is useless. You can build Tabi, Randuins, Thornmail, FH, Warmogs, (insert MR item or Deadmans/Sunfire if all AD.) and get chunked as hard as if you built bruiser

If you get ahead, is the only time you feel decently tanky.

But tanks feel fine if the enemy team is mostly/All AP unless they get super fed, because MR's stupid efficient vs AP. But if it's a team of 5 AD or majority AD that goes even? your 3-4 Armor items don't mean shit.

I just finished a match where I was Nocturne, who doesn't even have a tank killer identity, against an armor stacking Nasus and Volibear. I completely shredded them by building tank killing items and there was nothing they could do, yet I could still ult in to instantly kill any of their squishies with practically no counterplay. Snowballing is way too strong and tanks can't do anything to survive it.

I built item 3111 item 1419 item 3153 item 3124 item 3071 item 3133 Nasus built item 3024 item 3742 item 3047 item 1054 item 3078 item 3082 which were pretty much all items to try to counter my autoattacks. But I could still shred him down in a couple seconds on my own. If the game were balanced, Nasus stacking armor should have been enough to deter me from focusing him down, and my AP teammates should have gotten to deal with him instead since he didn't build any MR. But armor shredding and AD DPS are so broken that I was able to just stack tank killing items and slaughter everyone with the enemy team being powerless to counterbuild. My advantage for early snowballing should have been to force them to stack armor, thereby opening them up for AP to counter their armor stacking, not to just overpower their counterbuilding and keep on snowballing myself indefinitely.

Don't get me started on how bad Volibear had things. He was their jungle and because he was a tank with a slower clear speed, he couldn't keep up as I stole his buffs and hunted him down for free kills once the snowballing began.

The only reason I ever died in that match was from carelessly diving their whole team, which still let me kill 1-3 in the time it took for them to kill me, and resulted in my team pushing objectives and ending the game.

I'm sorry, but if Nasus really wanted to cold cuck you all he had to do was build Frozen Heart, Thornmail, and Wither you in team fights. The Deadman's was a waste of money.

Conqueror is the issue. The take-home lesson from this season is that true damage has to be used a lot more sparingly.

Its because of all the true damage and shred.
