If Your Teammate Says They Can't Play A Role

Stephenizgod··19 votes·1,399 views

Its probably in your best interest to not force them into that role :I... I am a pretty terrible jungler, i can do it and clear and as long as no one is losing i can help take objectives, but if you actually rely on me you are going to be disappointed. Ive tried to practice, only play jg for awhile but A)its not fun at all and B) i never improve... So when i tell people "Top Mid Supp pref/only" and I'm still forced to Jungle you can't blame anyone but yourselves... If Jungling was so easy why didn't you do it and let me do what i do best? Being First Pick does not mean you get to ignore your teammates requests. Also never assume you can out carry my bad, so far everyone who says "don't worry ill carry" has fed and flamed at me until we surrender or lose. IF YOU CAN PLAY THE ROLE SOMEONE CANT, JUST PLAY THAT ROLE!

Well... firstly you're also asking not ADC then. So you're only willing to play 3 of 5 roles.

Second, I'd recommend just going intermediate bots (or making another account and playing it up a bit) and practicing a variety of jungle champions until you find one that clicks. It's a unique role and has a lot of unique champions. I hated jungle for ages until I tried one champion that went well with me and it instantly became my second favourite role for a while (although the same just happened with top, so jungle is now 4th on my list).

Third, I agree that there's no excuse for flaming, ever. Especially when the player is known to not be good at the role. That said, if you're asking for 3 roles people don't know how bad you are at the other 2. If someone says 'not support' as last pick and no one else wants support, but I'm an ADC main as second last pick and that's also available, guess where I'm going when support is also my worst role? Sure, I can play support pretty well actually - I can get my ADC first blood in over 3/4 of my games. Still my worst role though, still the hardest role for me to carry from, and I still have no idea if you're worse than me at support and how much worse, and similarly expect that I'm a better ADC. I've actually picked support 3rd and let last pick have ADC ONCE, which was because I looked them up and noticed their Vayne had over an 80% win rate and felt like it'd be a fun game (and it was). Overall though, you can't really blame someone for taking the role they want most even if it leaves you with your worst role - there's an expected level of minimum competency at least...

Last - just don't worry about it. Riot is changing the way queuing works - you're only required to know 2 roles at all: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/site/2016-season-update/

True but its not such a big deal if i get ADC, I can just farm and lay down the DPS during teamfights. My mechanical skills, knowledge, and positioning is really lacking in Marksmen but i know how to CS with them as long as the Support is not being too aggressive or taking farm.

yea after this season i will be practicing jungle

Well when someone says "mid only" I get a little ticked off, you can't come into Ranked knowing only 1 role, i don't expect mastery of all roles but i do expect my teammates to be competent in at least 2 roles. Top Mid Supp Only pretty much implies i am bad at ADC and JG, i always try to consider what my team can do and normally i take support unless someone lets me top (lately i have been able to go top). I think its fair to assume that someone is bad at the roles they are not specifying, specially when they are pretty vocal about only wanting one of those three roles.

Yea i saw and im excited although i prefer Top i can supp or mid as well. I hope im allowed to pick 3 roles.

I agree with the "X-only" being frustrating, but often those players are capable of playing other roles at an okay level, they're just significantly better at their main role. In general though, I expect players to have at least 1 or 2 comfort picks in EACH role so that they can contribute from wherever they're needed to play. Otherwise what happens in the off chance that you specify you can't jungle at all, and it turns out no one can? (or the first couple players pick something else before realizing the last 2 or 3 players can't jungle).

You can pick 2. You could pick 1 + fill, but then you might get Jungle, so I'd advise against it. You can switch though, so top/mid and top/support based on how you're feeling. I'd encourage support though, there are too few of them :P

Some 'easier' junglers I'd recommend: Udyr, Shyvana, Amumu, Vi.

What about Xin Zhao it seems pretty hit or miss on how good i do, i either murder a lot of people or i feed badly... And i wanted to try Warwick but i usually I dislike having a Warwick because of how little impact he can have until 6.

ValyrianBlade2 votes

Both are easier junglers that are farm-centric and decent pick ups as well. You've noted their issues already though. I find Udyr to be a stronger Xin Zhao (stun on bear stance first hit rather than knock-up on third, unless you have an allied yasuo). Warwick is quite useless pre-6, although your problem sounds like ganking and post 6 you get an easy gank on solo lanes every time your ult is up.

If you're weak at ganking your likely also not the best at getting picks though. So you should prefer to be teamfight oriented.

Shyv and Amumu are great teamfighting tank junglers, who may not give much lane pressure early but will still make a big difference late.

Udyr and Vi have fairly simple mechanics to have successful ganks (like WW), and offer a bit stronger kit to back that up. E.g. Vi's ult is targeted and offers only a bit less CC than WW's, while she also has a gap closer with more CC. Both offer some AOE in teamfights, Udyr has repeated stuns and Vi has armor shred.

There are definitely other strong and easy to learn jungle picks, these are just the ones I figured could work well for you.

Thanks ill try them out during Preseason :)

if your support isnt in front pokeing the enemy that opens you up to enemy poke as an adc and especially if you dont know zone control or wave control trying to ignore the enemy to cs is actually the worst thing you can do as a low elo adc you benifeit more pokeing your allies out of lane and getting more exp and then more gold than then than trying to afk farm with opponents in lane people like to tell the support stop going out being agressive and engageing and pokeing with out that support has no reason to stand in front of you and if they dont stand in front of you that leaves you open to be ganked upon by the enemies. especially a leona or braum if you dont help them poke or engage the enemy you arnt gonna win lane beacuse if they stand in front of you they get free poke and have to back alot and if if they behind you they pose the enemy no threat you get poked down and cant farm at all. tunnel vision where you can only see whats good for you is one of the worst problems in the game especially at low elos. you have to take risks and help your teammates or you will find your self far behind the enemies who do unless you just one of those dudes who single handly vayne carries the game

Well see this all conjecture, I am speaking from first-hand experience. When my Support is super aggressive and I try to poke with them, that is when i start to show my weakness as a Marksmen. When the Support tries to make plays and I am unskilled enough to follow up, we lose. That's why i prefer sustain supports or peel supports who are defense-oriented so i can just farm without fear of dying until the Jungler comes. Once the Jungler comes I will go in with them, until then I prefer to farm so i can be relevant later one, so i can get the items i need to take down objectives.

you thought it would be an easy win. not you knew it would be a fun game thats should be part of every game but people got it in their head if it isnt an easy win it isnt fun which can happen but i consider that to be weak minded thinking. there are only 2 possiblilites you win or you lose that would mean automatically 50% of you games have the potential to be bad. with odds like that there is really no reason to play this game over flipping a coin if you cant enjoy yourself because you getting beat. not meaning you or anyone specifically.

LordGeovanni3 votes

its true that its probably not in your best interest to force them into that role but if you gonna play especially ranked its in everyone's best interest that you learn to be competent in every role of the game my biggest problem as jungle is my allies being pushed when im near and pinging when im half way across the map and that they never want to leave their lane to help with dragon. why should some one give up the role they feel better in because you dont want to bother to learn the role you dont feel good in they may be just as bad or worse than you just not as vocal about it

Stephenizgod1 votes

Ok like i said if they are so competent at every role they should have no problem taking the role their teammates can't play. You can't come in and say "Top only" then flame the guy who said "i really cant Jungle" when you could have easily taken Jungle... I mean sure everyone should be at least competent at every role but if someone is bad at a role and you want to actually win id suggest giving up your role and taking that one. I've had to play support for like 2 weeks simply because no one else could and i am pretty decent at supporting, regardless of pick order i would take support. I wanted to win.

LordGeovanni1 votes

you can feel competent at every role but if your best role is free you shouldn't take it for some one who may not be able to play it well as far as you know. and take the role that you know you are competent at but its your worst role meaning you are most likely to do bad in this role and only learned it incause you have to go there you should take it for some one who didnt want to take the time to learn all the roles how is that fair

Stephenizgod2 votes

Seriously guys, you probably can not carry how bad i am at jjungle... its a very important role and it needs someone who is good at it to do it.

Truly Prideful2 votes

I'm kind of in the same boat. I can play anything well except jungle so I usually warn my team. If I get jungle I usually just pick a hard farming jungler and control dragon, all your team can really ask for from someone that doesn't play the role well. Even if you aren't getting good ganks, getting the objectives will keep your team happy. Bonus points with your team if you're playing a sightstone user.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Yea i think during Preseason im just going to practice Jungle because it seems no one really wants to play it...

LadyRenly1 votes

Most people only care about what THEY want to play, what you can't do is your problem.

It sucks, but that is the reality that is lower elo.

Stephenizgod2 votes

I care a lot about what my teammates can and can't do, because A) i am nice and B) i want to win... i wish more people in my elo thought the same... I guess thats why they are stuck in my elo though -_-

I've found a bit of success taking Nautilus jungle, building super tanky, and treating him sort of like a second roaming support (the role I'm most familiar with).

Just as another possible suggestion to pick up for when you HAVE TO jungle.

Stephenizgod1 votes

I tried that and everyone hated me :( then again Top won lane but was always pushed, Bot was always pushed and the one time i tried tower diving the Cait decided to join me under turret for some reason then didnt leave when i did which was my fault somehow so she took my gromp and blue then purposely gave it to the enemy, and mid was Kat so hitting her with Q was, well impossible.

Naut for me is too reliant on my teammates understanding my limits, they normally think i can just instantly Q an knock someone up but its a bit harder then that.

its not fun at all

That, my good sir, is a matter of opinion.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Yes it is, it is my opinion that Jungle is not fun at all. Point?

Usually saying you prefer a role will steer them away from said role.

However, if all else fails, try something that matches your play style. I can't really play ADC, and I got forced into it in ranked. So I played Yasuo (I've done it before in normals, I know how it works, etc etc. Yasuo is a pseudo marksman)

Since I prefer champions that kind of wait out the opponents and go in when the time is right, yasuo worked wonders (And having an alistar support helps.)

And if someone threatens to feed because your role is "off meta" or "won't work" (as long as it isn't something stupid like ADC singed), you have nothing to worry about. If they dodge, fine, you can hopefully get the role you're more suited for. If they don't, though, and they actually feed, just report them post game and they'll get punished soon enough.

Those are my general tips, I suppose. Maybe not the best tips, but it could be something.

Stephenizgod1 votes

I don't really play carries, i prefer tanks so it would be hard for me to take one to bot lane as an adc

NoPaxt1 votes

If you cannot fill all five rolls, then you don't belong in draft, you belong in team builder. It sounds rude I know, but it's the truth.

Stephenizgod1 votes

I can play all 5 just not equally, im better at Top Mid and Supp. In Ranked you want to always play your best roles, so the more i play Ranked the more i improve in those roles alone, furthering the gap in skill between what im comfortable with and what i am not. So my skill at JG and ADC is not quite up to standards. Once i reach Gold and get them rewards, i will start practicing those other two roles.
