Please stop flaming teammates for not calling MIA when it doesn't make a difference

This was a while back, but I decided to share this because of a recent game today. Please stop flaming teammates for not calling MIA when it wouldn't have made a difference. Yes, I know some of you Bronzes are perfect and can never be wrong, because everything is on your teammates, right?

So I was playing Yasuo mid and for whatever reason the enemy decided to go Shen mid. So after a recall to buy my Stattik Shiv, Shen ganks bot. I, from base, noticed it and quickly pinged a couple of MIAs in a straight line down from mid to bot even pinging a "Careful".

An ally has been slain. (Shen killed Ashe) Enemy Double Kill! (Shen killed Nami)

Bot Lane: top wtf no mia Bot Lane: /all report top for not calling mias

Me: um Shen is mid and i called it? Teammates & Enemy: ikr stop making excuses bot

The 2 at bot didn't say a word after that. This shows that people are using teammates not calling MIA as an excuse for their poor map awareness. MIAs are great for the team, and I'm usually able to call 97% of them, but they are only crutches. Your map awareness is how you "walk" in League. MIAs are just crutches.

In the scenario above, it was obvious my MIA didn't make a difference because if our Bot had map awareness, they would've noticed Shen leaving mid and my MIA too. But nope, they got killed and then they blamed top thinking Shen came from Top.

So please, stop flaming and asking for reports because of teammates not calling MIA. EDIT: I am not trying to say, you should not call MIA and expect everyone to watch the map. I am saying you should not blame teammates for not calling MIA when you wouldn't have noticed it anyway. Ward if you're going to overextend and watch the map.

It's true. I've had situations like these way too many times.

-Enemy Laner leaves -Mia called -Enemy Roams Bot -Double Kill -"Wtf no Mia" -"I did look at Chat" -No response.

Good god done that a few times. I always apologize for it too because I feel like an ass when I do that.

Really depends on the timing of the ping. If I can check the timestamp on the ping and see that it was issued literally 2 seconds before the enemy showed up, then I'm going to say "you pinged that way too late".

If I see that you pinged it in a timely fashion, then an apology is due on my part. Not everyone apologizes. Accept their silence as acceptance that they were wrong, and be glad that they aren't flaming you for proving them wrong.

The way I felt about "MIA" changed as I climbed in rank:

Silver: "Wtf no mia" Gold: checks chat to see if anyone called mia, then if no one did "wtf no mia" Platinum: (Damn, I should have been paying more attention to the minimap) Diamond: "Wtf no follow"

Well, he recalled back to base so he couldn't follow. But as Yasuo he should have had Shen pinned to the mid-tower and at like 1/3 health before he went back for the Shiv. There's not too much you can do if Shen runs back out of line of sight and uses ulti to bounce between lanes though, except realize you have a Global Ulti in the game and don't play like a fail when it's ready to be used.

Like I said this game was a while back (back when I wasn't so skilled with Yasuo). IIRC, I went back for Stattik when Shen recalled, but then he teleported back, pushed the wave up, and then left for bot. I caught him leaving while I was just about to leave base.

Whatever, you get the point of the MIAs.

Wow you guys get no response? I get people who flat out deny I called MIA, despite it being clear as day in the chat.

I also had a game where one of my teammates lost the lane, and I called MIA and pinged our top that bot is probably roaming towards top. He clearly ignores it, and pushes on, then when he loses the trade and dies he says, "Wow bot fed." because he didn't have the sense to fall back when people were pinging him to and decided to take his chances fighting knowing he could lose since bot was slightly fed. People just love having someone to blame in lower leagues.

Your scenario justifies this, yet the message you are trying to convey to us to follow feels bad.

As much as it's annoying for a player to complain about missing MIA it IS something that people should be doing and if they are forgetting they should be constantly reminded about it.

Oh sorry, I am not trying to say don't call MIA, I'm trying to say you need to have map awareness too.

I was playing with a Vel'koz mid earlier. Our turret was down, so as a support, I roamed mid to ward side bushes for him and promptly left. But he told me to gtfo and go help my adc. Now at this point one of my wards spotted the enemy jungler shortly after I left, and you would think Vel would have backed up immediately instead of staying pushed. Nami shows up shortly after Lee Sin engaged and Vel blamed his death on the fact that I was in mid for a short time. Like, you clearly saw the two of them coming.

But whatever helps you sleep at night, bud.

The only players who ever say: "thx for no Mia death" are players for whom saying or pinging Mia wouldn't have mattered anyways. If you are too stupid or too unskilled to be map aware on your own you deserved to die.

In 5 years of playing I have never ONCE died to a laner roam in which not being pinged Mia or told Mia was the reason. 100% of the time I died because I was not paying enough attention to the game state. Now, if I die to a laner roam and the laner on my team, now free of an opponent, doesn't push his lane and take an objective or roam to the opposite side of the map and pick a favorable fight while I'm engaged 1v2 or 1v3 I will be mad. Not for the no Mia. I will be mad I have an idiot on my team who is incapable of understanding basic game fundamentals like how to take advantage of the opportunity to take a FREE objective somewhere.

Tldr: if you EVER use "no Mia" as an excuse, you are wood tier and should uninstall.

Personally I always call MIAs and never complain when they're not called. I have a minimap for a reason, if I chose not to use it it's my own fault.

Orbv2 votes

My last game was just like this.

I played Yorick top against Hecarim, obviously I was dominating him in lane (minus severe lag......damn computer). I pinged every time he was missing, and whenever he teleported bot, he never got a kill or assist. So that was fine.

But then mid forgot to ping one time, however I noticed that Leblanc was traveling down our jungle because it was well warded in at least 3 locations. I don't ping because I see bot backing anyway. BUT THEN THEY DECIDED TO STAND BEHIND THE TURRET AND RECALL.................."OMFG, Mid you need to call MIA! You cost us the lane". (Me) "Bot...you warded the jungle, and she was very visibly taking camps and walking towards you".

(Mid) "Top you saw and you didn't ping, you're also to blame"..................

It's like.....don't even start with me. I do enough tracking of my own enemy to have to do it for someone else's. Does nobody look at the minimap? And if you see an assassin coming after you going the tri-bush way.....wouldn't you run the hell away....like to the second inner turret?

What is the point of warding and pinging if nobody notices? Then it honestly becomes a waste of gold and focus.

the MIA ping is there for a reason, i have decent map awareness but nothing annoys me more than a lane just peacefully farming while they don't ping anything when their laner is nowhere to be found.

was this needed in your angry rant about calling MIAs?

Yes, I know some of you Bronzes are perfect and can never be wrong, because everything is on your teammates, right?

so you are blaming your teammates because they overextended and died? everyone can blame everyone else for a perceived fault, but it deosnt help anything

3TWarrior1 votes

personally the missing in action ping seems underrated. people dont' even pay attention to it but if you ping danger like 3x in the bush near their lane, they notice

or sometimes they don't

but a major annoyance of mine is when the enemy laner is gone for a long time, so I ping MIA, then they come into lane, making it worthless

Here is an even more desperate situation.

Lets say you are laning mid with Ziggs and got countered by Zed with his ressourceless pokes. He was able to outfarm you and denying you any CS. You ping for help from the jungler who is amumu. He never came and ganked the top lane where our morgana was constantly pushing. He tower dived tryndamere and died. He goes back into his jungle and did a full rotation of his jungle to try and gank top again and died. Zed went mia soo you called mia. Your bottom lane was overextending all game and died many time to the ennemie jungler. You noticed that the bottom lane didn`t back away but kept pushing hardcore. Zed and Vi arrived and get a double kill and 3 assist. The Zed becomes soo fed that it was now impossible for you to lane because his full combo can 80% your hp. For the 1st time after 20min Amumu gank mid and died. He then blames you for feeding Zed and let Zed free farm. Bottom lane blames you for not calling mia when you actually did.

Lets say you are posting some dank buzzwords and circlejerking on LoL boards and you get hit by some OP resourcless, mobility, strategic diversity poke from one of the three broken champs (leblanc, zed, lee sin, lol winrates r for fags).

Just going to be that guy, he actually does have a resource, energy. Sure, it's a quick regen, but you can't just spam your abilities off cooldown without running out of energy unless you have blue for that extra 6 a second, (Which lets be honest who gives Zed blue? Never seen it.) Plus if he's using his full combo on you, punish him with yours bombs. You have range with those things.

My favorite is when I call MIA for the enemy mid roaming bottom and get bitched at despite the enemy mid not even landing an AA. Somehow that Akali simply being there is the reason they died and it is my fault.

love it when all outer turrets are down and inners are starting to fall. "WTF MID NO MIA" lane phase is done bro. not my job to inform you of all the enemies' whereabouts.

Cether1 votes

I forgot this was even a thing. Honestly in mid plat if an enemy lane disappears for 3 seconds you're going to see 4 pings from 3 people and 3 wards are going to drop in a cone around the lane they can roam to most of the time.

If you are watching the map and notice an enemy disappears, even if it isn't your lane, you should do a mia ping for that lane (hell I do 2 of them because nobody listens to the first one.)

Auroramancer1 votes

"...you should not blame teammates for not calling MIA when you wouldn't have noticed it anyway."

My biggest issue is that I actually am very aware of the map. Thing is, I only see the enemy champ portraits on my map, and whether they are actually there or not. If the icon is absent, that can mean multiple things:

1.) They briefly walked into the fog of war to place a ward at the time I glanced at the map

2.) They had to recall from a lost trade with my teammate or to shop. They are in base now. I'm then guaranteed 15~ seconds of safety from that enemy unless they have a long-range mobility ult

3.) They are actually roaming. This is where the teammate should designate which direction the enemy was headed, or say "idk where they are" after pinging, or even say "they are doing dragon" if there is reasonable suspicion.

4.) They are sitting on their tower waiting for my teammate to push the minion wave onto tower so they can farm, and the minion wave's current position does not give sight of them sitting on tower

This is why countering someone who says "call MIA" with "lmao watch your map, you have one" is complete bullshit, because the absence of the enemy can mean so many different things.

I have to account for these possibilities when I don't see an enemy's portrait on the map. I rely on my teammates to convey this information to me. "my lane is b" = possibility 2 silence = possibilities 1 and 4 Missing Ping = possibility 3

So yeah, when my teammate does not ping Missing when I don't see the enemy portrait on map, and that enemy roams to my lane, then I'm going to say "hey dude ping those". When neither of the possibilities are confirmed to me, I miss out on kill potential on my lane opponent because I have to account for my teammate not pinging Missing and wrongly (but safely) assume that the enemy is roaming to me.

And if a Missing ping is issued after that enemy shows to a lane and has already left or secured a kill, that is just a huge slap in the face to teammates. It's also not adequate to ping MIA, just as the enemy shows up in a different lane 2 seconds later, that is way too late. It takes 10-20 seconds for someone to roam between lanes, there's no excuse for waiting that long to ping or even communicate about it.

On another note, be glad when your teammates shut up when proved wrong, there are so many players who will respond with "lmao" and personally attack you when you prove them wrong. If they shut up, they understand they are wrong and won't flame about what happened. So let it be.

In order for me to use the MIA ping more it'd have to have a better sound, I personally can't really hear the little shriek and thusly I put less emphasis on using it. I try to warn allies they're being ganked or roamed on with warning pings, but I am of the opinion that me calling MIA is equal parts important as you watching the map. It's a team effort to prevent enemies getting fed/ahead and trying to shift blame onto others is a core problem with new players in league trying to work their way up.
