WildTurtle just expressed my worries about 8.11

The good thing about this patch is the nerf of FFW and health regen in addition to armor

Right now it's IMPOSSIBLE to know which adc is better at the game between the two teams, you're able to sustain so much agressions do not matter and you can just scale into late game where games depend on "which team set up the most for the adc" with armor and health regen nerf early game agression will matter

But the problem is that supports are STRAIGHT UP BROKEN right now, their damage is too high and in this situation wildturtle used Soraka as an example who's a pick that rose into popularity

to a point ,where soraka is picked/banned in MSI games by pros Her poke is straight up ridiculous, imagine playing against her with less sustain now

Please, Riot I beg you to nerf support's damage

Wait, they're saying Support should be less influential in the laning phase compared to the ADC? Shouldn't in the the other way around? Support should be more influential in lane and the ADC should scale into mid or late game depending on which ADC it is.

<removed by moderation>

but still, if you play bot lane you would realise how strong a support's damage is in laning phase because riot removed mr runes gave them aery, aftershock,scorch,ap/ad

and they buffed ignite now a support rotation with ignite is insane

i really wish they would nerf support's damage, but still make them strong in lane just not as strong as how it will be in 8.11

I don't think damage in lane is the problem. They used an example of a champ that has an unmissable skill with stupid range. So maybe Soraka should be nerfed, but that's not a problem across the board.

In general supports should be most influential in the laning phase or else there's not really any point to them.

The problem, as qt, turtle, and scarra actually hammered on a LOT more than laning damage was how much gold supports get for literally sitting there doing nothing.

I actually play support a lot and personally the only thing I'm really worried about his "how soon can I transform my item and get my FREE WARDS?"

that's pretty fucking sad lol

"Oh no! Supports are stronger than ADCs during the part of the game when ADCs are designed to be weak! They need to do less damage so ADCs don't die to them during laning phase without making them weak during the laning phase!"

That's dumb. The only way to change their damage without making them weak would be to shift the power elsewhere, into utility and CC and tankiness. People already complain that shielding supports shield too hard, healing supports heal too much, peeling supports peel to much, CC supports lock you down too long. Do you want to see Janna with an even bigger shield and stronger peel? How about Leona with even lower cooldowns so you can never escape? Because cheese like that is what would happen if supports did no damage and were compensation buffed to keep them relevant.

Also you can say goodbye to secondary roles for support champs. Without damage those will no longer be viable.

Or ADC mains can get used to treating their support as an equal partner and their opponent's support as an equal threat.

Whenever I manage to kill the enemy ADC it's because he tried to out-burst me. Marksmen are sustained damagers. You wouldn't try to win a right click battle with an assassin, don't try to win a burst battle with a right clicker.

THEY'RE ALREADY A THREAT in lane

It's just going to be ABOVE a reasonable level in 8.11

What about 8.11 is going to make supports stronger in any way? I'm not watching a 106 minute video.

You know, you can state an opinion without being rude about it. "I don't agree with that," "I disagree because...", "Allow me to explain..." etc. etc.

There is no reason you needed to say that nor does it help your case.

Why would you nerf support damage? They are supposed to be the dominant force bot lane. What, did you think the ADC did literally anything pre 10 mins?

FurriesAreHot3 votes

I actually agree. Supports are there to protect their ally and to pressure the enemy when their ally cannot.

I agree with wildturtle,

Nerfing the obscene amounts of gold that supports get, their dmg that rivals mid mages, their insanely efficient itemization and multiplicative heal/shield bonuses, their crazy actives etc etc is the key to giving ADCs back their agency in lane.

IMHO support players are given too much power to do things that are generally undesirable.

That the things that supports do are not fun for the many, and also that much of the support power is "quasi-invisible" makes it so that in order to endear the role to the masses, riot over-stuffs supports with power.

This creates a problem: without supports being overpowered, supports will be sufficiently undesirable as to cause a game matching issue.

The solution is to fun-up the support role, and AFTER you've made the core nature of the support's activity in the game more enjoyable to most players, nerf the role.

So what WOULD you consider fun? Based on the complaints in this thread alone, supports shouldn't heal, shield, buff allies, or debuff enemies ("quasi-invisible power"), and now they aren't allowed to do decent early game damage either? What exactly is it that you think supports ARE supposed to do? Be a bunch of CC bots?

I do not speak for everybody. And I do not think about what supports in general 'should' do. However here is what I perceive to be fun in my support play style:

  1. Controlling the flow of the game through the contest of vision.
  2. Leading assaults on the enemy mid, jungle, top and adc and be the one that sets them up to be killed.
  3. Protecting own allies by swooping in and providing 'utility'.
  4. Controlling the flow of fights by enabling team mates and disabling opponents.

There is no problem in my mind in supports being CC-bots. It is in the same way that ADCs are damage-bots and junglers are map-control-bots. However there should be less emphasis on the ally doing well and being empowered to do well, and more emphases on the ally playing into an opportunity created by the support, or the opponent being screwd.

The optimal kit for a support is: transferable outplay mechanics (TK's W, thresh lantern), transferable mobility (threash lantern, bard tunnel, tk R), Traps and other ground targeted utility effects - preferably ones that allow opponent to interact with them and confer some advantage in doing so, S.A bard W. And fill the rest with whatever damage or CC.

i love playing support.. and yeah.. support damage is too high.. but thsts not the supports fault we dont have "more gold" than we used to, we just flat out dont need to spend 800 of it on sightstone, we dont need t spend another 1500 of it to get our t3 support items becuase we have no actives on it anymore, so we are forced to build damage 2300 gold sooner

so we are basically 2300 gold stronger than before riot fucked everything up. by deleting sightstone. THATS the BIGGEST issue of support damage creep and it also means we can get 6 items instead of 5

and then we have shit like the SUPPORT page in inspiration give the most ap and AD.. like wtf.. SORCERY should give more ap then inspiration.. that is stupid... i start the game with like 35 ap as support Morgana and Lux ... that is absurd, were as AP junglers get completely shafted i start with what? 18 on Nidalee jugnle?

Soraka huh? Did any of the opposing teams pick Nami, Janna or Sona in those games? I had a look for the 2 games she was in, the answer is no and neither team banned any of them. There are answers to champs, you want a sustain poke lane, then go sustain poke. Don't pick Tahm.
