Is Riot happy with the state of this item in the game right now? Are players happy? I never see this item in games, and for the champions it feels like it should be at least decent on, it feels like they just don't have room for it. It's not really an item that competes with other support/mage items. On paper it looks like it should be amazing on champions like Sona, Soraka, Janna, Lulu, but in reality there just isn't enough room due to the priority of other items like redemption, censor, sightstone, boots, locket, and 5th item which I rarely get to build anyway and I tend to keep open for control wards anyway unless it's a really really late game that needs an item.

Personally I'm extremely happy with it. It's usually the first item I finish (Unless Im doing well and can afford to just buy a ton of AP). It has really good synergy with my kit. Honestly I used to build censor too, but it was nerfed to the point where I don't find it useful or impactful anymore.

I think the item is generally fine, but because the meta is the way it is, it's getting overlooked in lieu of other items. I don't think this means it's bad in any way though, especially on certain champions who synergize well with it. In a decent teamfight, I can get several heals off which actually completely turn the fight in our favor, all based off this one item. I'd be incredibly sad if they changed it.

i like to get it too i mianly get it as a last item as i like to abuse all 3 of the idol items and with athenes and certainarunes you can get about 400 AP on top of 40% shield heal increase from items and even firther the 5(10)% increase from that rune too with all that AP for my janna and soraka thats a lot of healing and shielding for them :3

i just wish we had more idol items like twin shadows could have been good and the same for shurelyas as i mainly build the same every game the only thing that changes is the order :S

The 30 magic resist seems weird, I never find it useful if i need mr i get another item. But I do love Athenes and use it frequently

It was definitely stronger in the past, but I still run it on Morgana and support Lux. Enemies frequently want to know where that extra health suddenly came from when I put a blood-charged shield on the ADC they think they're about to kill.
