PSA: If you take ignite top and lose lane
the game is no longer ours to win, but the opponents to lose.
the game is no longer ours to win, but the opponents to lose.
People not realizing what the OP is saying lmao
If you take ignite, you take it to win your lane. Hard.
If you actually LOSE lane with ignite, you are pretty much useless. Doesn't matter what champ you are.
The enemy toplaner is now fed, and has TP, making your ignite useless.
So, do not take ignite every single game, only take it when your objective is to stomp lane. If you fail, hope you get carried or the enemy throws.
Ignite is like the Yorick of summoner spells, gives you a ton of lane pressure, but is pretty useless compared to other choices once the laning phase ends.
hay leave yorick out of this lol.
Hey, I play Yorick when I need to shut down a lane or 2v1, but aside from his ult on a carry he isn't too useful late game
true but jungle yorick is good. i take gromp blue then drag then red then gank top
I disagree a bit. Ignite is useful at all phases of the game as it can clean up kills, proc and eat up shields for adcs, counter champs who have health-regen up the wazoo, and depending on overall team comps.
I think the argument is more that tp is more useful. If ignite is a counter to mundo or something it might serve a greater utility, but honestly just build morello's. However, the argument is that TP will have a greater impact in the majority of instances than ignite will and so you have given the enemy a significantly larger advantage than just losing lane.
For example, ignite can clean up a kill or deal w/ shield or something. TP can take a tower that is pushed you wouldn't have been able to get to in time (like before enemy respawns, or it is low hp tower, but enemy could get back to defend it in time if you don't have tp for it), which is multiple kills worth of gold (like 1k right?). Also TP can get you to a team fight where team was being chased 3v3 or something and you turn it around w/ advantage and take objectives off the ensuing 4 or 5v2.
again it depends on the match. I dont go top lane that often also. It just depends from what i've seen :D
Yeah, I definitely have had games where no one wards, our team gets fed and groups early or is so behind that TP to join team just feeds kills bc team is dead before TP finishes, or something like that where TP doesn't really let you make plays. However, you can't know going into the game if that will be true or not, so I generally like TP>Ignite unless it's a lane match up thing.
If you meant lane match up I def agree, but you do that to get ahead, so if you lose lane you're still screwed usually. God though I love ignite on a lane you usually win hard. Those early tower dives where you have to bail to avoid dying to tower, but ignite finishes them anyway :D
Yeah, it still has its uses, but the map pressure from TP tends to be a lot better late game since it allows you to split the focus of the enemy team, if you have TP and they don't you get this kind of situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93YMYIXiOIw
I play a lot of Mundo....
If my enemy takes TP I'm almost guaranteed to win lane.
If they take ignite I can't think about straight up dueling them which is fine for Mundo but I don't tend to get fed in those games.
I like you.
Um that's if you suck at yorick, if your good at yorick and go tank with the ult carries, lifesteel, frozen heart, slows and speed boost
Think you missed the "compared to other choices part"
I know right. My friend is always complaining because the enemy is using ignite and he is using teleport and how the enemy is going to win(they always do).
When the enemy has ignite and you don't, isn't it pretty obvious that you shouldn't be trying to all-in unless it's obvious you'll come out on top? Ignite isn't a guaranteed lane winner if you play smarter.
I try telling him but he's one of those feisty guys that want kills and are blood thirsty. He uses ignite like with any one and I keep telling him to use teleport because I believe it's more useful that ignite. When he does actually use teleport the enemy always uses ignite and he is not the best player ill just say that :P
Ignite's use case is obvious, teleport's isn't so much. You can use teleport to get back to lane quickly after shopping, which is nice. You can also teleport to a ward behind the enemy in bottom lane and get a free gank in. And it pairs great with homeguard boots, which are already top tier options.
TP>Ignite in any situation unless vs swain
No.
That is wrong.
If they have a Vlad, Swain, Morde, Mundo or Irelia it will still be useful to have the ignite.
Ignite is generally taken by the Mid laner or the Support, in this meta there's no reason for the Top laner to have it for the grievous wounds
thats correct, but the op is also correct. If you are going to go outside whats good and go for a solo kill lane(why else take ignite top lane?) you had better win your lane. Yes, they should take teleport, but we cant pick their summoners for them. wish we could sometimes.
Note that I said there's no reason to take ignite for the GW, if you want to go for solo kills that's fine but as I said in the OP if you lose lane the game can only be won if the enemy screws up
note that i was agreeing with you op...
Yeah i just meant to clarify that I was specifically talking about the GW aspect of ignite and not the snowbally damage part. I'm not used to posting on reddit-eque forums so I just happened to respond to your comment
no biggie

champions that still need to snowball early take ignite top ie riven pantheon fiora cuz if your not getting early kills your just ganna get outscaled and owned

Pantheon takes Ignite top cause his Ult is all the TPing he needs :D

lol sometimes when im pantheon top ill just use ult to clear waves xD cause unless somethings going on its just such a useless ult that you dont even use half the game
please tell me you are trolling.
What about team comps that have a mage w/ morello's? It still has the same healing debuff right? Why do people keep mentioning ignite for this and not adding this caveat? Ignite covers the time span of like 1/4 of mundo's ult or something right? Swain and Vlad can heal around it too to some degree, but Morello's can be much more sustained and last longer than ignite, plus it never goes on cool down. If you have Morello's on a mage, doesn't ignite lose that utility since you already have it covered? If that is ignites only saving grace then it's pretty useless suddenly.
Morellos only affects targets under 40% health, also unless you are that mage you could have trouble dueling these champion. Your mage might also not be able to get the item, like if they are manaless or they need chalice for the early magic resist. There are also champions that have rigid builds like Cass where morellos doesn't fit. If the enemy Vlad gets fed and your mage doesn't you may even need the ignite to get them to 40% health in the first place, when I play Vlad I'm looking for ignites on the enemy team way before I'm worried about morellos.
Holy shit I forgot about the 40% caveat on Morellos's lol. Yeah, I'd tried to specify just team comps it works on since a mana based mid who scales well w/ CDR can usually build it if the team needs the debuff, and you know if it's like zed mid or something that won't build it at champ select. The 40% though is a huge thing I forgot and definitely changes it. Thanks for pointing that out. Makes way more sense now.

You left someone out:
.
Not only does it reveal Akali, it shuts off her spellvamp/lifesteal.
Yeah there are quite a few actually, I also didn't mention
by the same token if you take teleport and don't use it to secure objectives for your team you gave yourself a disadvantage in lane for no reason.
I thought people took ignite top cause they just want the "killz"
Exactly, so if you don't get the "killz" the team is at a significant disadvantage
I like how people downvote you, Mr.Op. I'ma upvote. Also, this is why ignite is rarely taken. Or should rarely be taken. You don't wanna take ignite just because "the damages" or "because it reduces healing" because you can buy both of those in game. You take summoners for a utility you can't buy in game. Its why lee sin and shaco never take flash- they already have low cd, free jumps. Most of the time when someone goes top, they take teleport to get across the map to teamfight. That's why its core top lane- lots of fights (new meta 4 bot for some reason) break down at drag around 7-13 minutes that simply decide the course of mid game. So you always want Teleport. Flash is a crutch for things like "hey I wish I was in position guys, but there was a wall"- 9/10 you want ghost>flash for easier positioning. So on so forth. You gotta think on your summs.
Also, Mr.Op- sorry for derail. Just wanted to rant that real quick.
Lee sin doesn't need flash? I hope you're joking... Almost every Lee I've ever seen had flash simply because it's a great summoner. You can ult-flash to instantly knock people back into your team, with W-R you still give them around 0.3s to react and CC you or simply flash away before you can kick.
Yes and No...
Care to elaborate?
Depends on the game/situation...not taking
you lose out on objective control/map presence...I agree on that...If your in a team fight where the enemy top laner is involved that TP does nothing except being able to TP to a lane to clear out waves IF they win...Maybe the enemy top laner is
then
will give you an upper hand in a team fight not to mention putting
on an ADC with
lowers their chance at surviving an all-in...so yes and no depending on the situation...
this is pretty spot on but there is more to it.
It also greatly depends on your team composition. If your composition is one that is all group to win, the extra ignite will help you win the team fights. If you are using a split push comp teleport is your better option. There may be times when teleport can be used early in the game to your advantage for sure, like taking an early dragon or to help a lane in a serious battle, but if your composition is that of the first example that teleport may quickly become less effective than an ignite.
Don't forget times when you are against a splitpush team. TP is almost always more useful there.
Why single out top-lane ignite users? Doesn't the same argument hold true for mid-lane too?
Mid lane doesn't need TP to get to most parts of the map because they're already in the middle.
What I wish these Faker wannabes who think they are obviously going to carry would realize is that ignite loses its value as the game goes one. People get more health and it just doesnt do the same amount of damage proportionally (with the exception of sustain denial. main reason I use ignite late game when I'm mid). It gets weaker as the game goes on. TP never does. TP is always the same function and so never loses its value. So if you don't snowball in top lane You taking ignite was a bad idea even if the other laner also took ignite
but if you lose your lane wtih TP agasint an ignite, it doesnt matter how much pressure you can put on the map. youre losing turrets, and fast. and during the lane youll be using TP to get back into the lane most of the time, just to keep losing with that low cooldown ignite.
