@Riot , Shyvana's passive; The most boring passive in the game?

I love Shyvana, I have every Shyvana skin except the newest one which I intend to get eventually.

Her playstyle is fast, her playstyle is rough-and-tumble.... I love her skills and especially her presence in teamfights when she's in her full dragon mode.... but, her passive is the most boring passive of the whole game. Yes, I understand the point behind it, it is meant to give her a basis to build more offensively without having to worry too much about defenses giving her a nice balance of offense and defense..... I'm not saying it's underpowered, it's just fucking boring, like bored out of my mind.

So I ask ; Couldn't Riot add a more exciting passive to Shyvana? something like... instead of raw armor and magic resist, give her a pre-shield that mitigates incoming damage by 3-15% ? this would make her unique in that her "Tough dragon skin" would reduce all forms of damage by a set percentage and effectively give her higher EHP in a way no other champion would have. Or maybe give her a combo basis to work with (Wild idea here) traditionally dragon's had a roar that caused fear in their enemies, maybe have her "Roar" every 7th strike and fear the enemy for 1 second or something like that. It would add to her fantasy, it would NOT be a traditional (boring) stun after X hits and it would NOT be extra damage (WE DON'T WANT MORE NUMBERS) but it would give her some basic CC to work with and it would be more interesting than what she has now.

Or whatever, honestly I don't care what they do but anything other than boring flat stats would be fantastic. I don't think she's overpowered or underpowered, I just wish she had a less dull passive.

Talon

But yes it is quite boring

He's gonna get some really edgy new passive though, so now we're left with Lissandra .

Yes, it's boring, but it fulfills its intended purpose quite well: it makes building HP over resistances more attractive on her, just like it does for Garen.

Cute picture btw.

think about talon's passive

Wukong has basically the same passive with the caveat of it being at full strength when among five enemies (as opposed to Shyvana's being at full strength when she ults). I'm a Wukong main and I'm okay with it.

Sejuani 's is moderately more uninspired. At least Shyvana's has the interaction with the ult to make her more tanky in dragon form. Sej's isn't something you'd ever think about.

Shyv's passive is pretty bad though.

look at garen's

Garen's passive isn't too terrible because it actually encourages changes to your playstyle. I'd personally argue for the worse since it causes Garen to play lane in a fairly passive manner but he at least thinks about it.

Shyvana passive is fine.

She is underpowered tho.

Oh come on, no one is interested in talking about how Shyvana has , arguably the most boring passive ever? can you name a more boring passive than just completely flat numbers that don't directly affect her playstyle?

Maybe Amumu but even that affects how you play him (Auto before skills) .... Sejuani at least gives her a nice "Hard to pin down" bonus. Shyvana's just raw flat boring numbers.

Talon, Lissandra , and Nunu want a word with you.

I've dabbled in Shyv though, so I can talk about this passive. Personally I think her bonus armor and magic resist should scale harder with level, and maybe throw in some tenacity after level 11 or something. It will help with her being kited.

I would imagine Shyvana will get reworked at some point in the future.

I could see that happening sometime... I was kind of surprised she wasn't at least slightly modified during the juggernaut update.

She gets kited like crazy and that's one of the core issues juggernauts face.

Raxistaicho1 votes

The original Juggernaut update was way different than the Mage or Marksmen updates were. I wouldn't be surprised if Riot went back over them after Assassins and Tanks or Divers (maybe even both) were done.

There's many paths of things she could use. But we've been holding our breath for a while now. Also add me on league

Eh i love shyv but wonder what they would nerf if they could give her passive a buff.

Whoa, slow down there chief, I was not in any way advocating for a buff.

I was just saying a lateral change to something less boring would be good.... I don't consider Shyvana underpowered.

Friendly Ram1 votes

Ok understood. i misread your intention, i'd love to see a more interesting passive.

I consider her underpowered after twin bite's damage was cut in half.

does her passive count as "bonus" armor

I agree, Shyvana's innate is terribly dull, and is one of those passives that's functional at what it's meant to do (i.e. encourage her to stack health, as mentioned below, make her a bit tankier in Dragon form, let her survive early jungle clears and lane trades better), while presenting little in the way of interesting gameplay. I'd very much like it to be made into something more interesting, though at the same time, the rest of Shyvana's kit is also saddled with her old passive, i.e. the multiple on-hit effects that affect her actives. As much as Shyvana really deserves more gameplay capable of making her fulfill her dragon fantasy, her current ability set is such a mess of overlapping effects that she needs to have her mechanical load deflated first.

Personally, I think her on-hit effects could be condensed into something much more compact and refitted back onto her innate: the reason it got split up in the first place, aside from Shyv needing some more early game durability (her bonus resistance passive was part of her ult, but came into play too late for her to make use of it at critical early stages), is because it really was just a bunch of bonus ability effects packed into one. The end result, though, is a set of on-hit effects that dilute her kit and overlap to a large degree (her W and E both have on-hit effects that deal bonus magic damage, Q and W both have on-hit effects that increase their uptime), and add unnecessary complication when the basic gist of all that is that Shyvana becomes more powerful when she autoattacks a lot. Considering how she plays closest to a juggernaut, it might be a good move to give her juggernaut-level base stats (i.e. tons more armor and base AD, a little less health), which could give her the early game durability and damage she needs, and condense her kit into a smaller set of more powerful abilities that she'd fuel more consistently with basic attacks. Her Dragon form also needs to be a bit more concentrated: right now, it's mostly a steroid that gives a tad more resistances and piles on even more effects onto an already fairly bloated kit, which is why it doesn't feel as grand and terrifying as it deserves to be.

I like the idea of a unique powerful scaling with level % damage reduction on her, the "dragon skin" concept you mentioned is perfect.

Wukong's passive has the exactly same effect, just a slightly different requirement, that in 99% of cases is the same as Shyvana's.

Wukong's passive at least requires positioning tactics... Shyvana's passive is just "always on".

Wukong's passive is far more dynamic.

shyvana's passive is actually that basic attacks have special effects for her other abilities (generate fury for her ult, lower cooldown on Q, extended duration and bonus damage on W and %hp damage on E) it's just that the tooltips were moved to the abilities themselves instead of being a giant wall of text (back then giant, nowadays jhin's passive puts that to shame)

I just thought if they reworked her they could change her Q to something the likes of 'Wing buffet' where in human form she knocks back a target about 100-150 units away from her, and in dragon form she sweeps her wings from the outside inwards and pulls enemies slightly around her into a focal point in front of her (kinda like a reverse darius E)

this would lower her clear speed in the jungle since it wouldn't get CDR on basic attacks, but increase her ganking power pre-6, and would give her a form of gank setup/disengage in a laning scenario (I only play her as a toplane so i'd like for any changes to her to take that into account of course)

Nasus and Morgana have incredibly boring passives.

For Shyvana I just want her to fly at all times in dragon form. She can clearly fly from the ult, so why does she sit on the ground?

Edit: Also Twisted Fate. "Check it out guys! I get more gold than you to make up for the fact that my E is TOTAL SHIT!"
