Automatically Calling Role(s)

It would be nice if in ranked, Riot would have you fill out a little form with which roles you want to play and then present that to the team in a grid. This would do nothing else (i.e. listing 'mid' here doesn't guarantee you a damn thing, it's purely informational).

The point behind this would be to help people find the optimal roles. If you only have one person who plays jungle, well, it would be really nice if they were the jungler, etc. And with the fact that some people never type (until AFTER picks are done) this could bring a small amount of coordination to solo queue.

So, to recap, it would simply give us a grid like this (but nicer looking) and would not force anyone into any role, it would just serve as a replacement for calling out roles at the start of every match. It would also be required, so everyone would know what you can play (i.e. no more "but I can only mid!" types). And you can, of course, say that you intend to fill by clicking all the roles. It wouldn't force anyone to do whatever and if people wanted some weird troll lane, they could just ignore whatever it said.

But for everyone else, it would help teams spot when they only have one competent support or jungler or whatever and hopefully reduce conflict with the people who never say anything about roles until it's too late, because it would force them to communicate ahead of time.

Not quite. This is just giving your team info on what you play so you can more quickly negotiate who is taking which role. It's not actually "picking" it, but informing people what you're skilled with. You can see from my example that there's basically one optimal set of roles there, but nearly everyone wants mid, so half the people are going to end up playing roles they're bad at if they don't figure out who is good at what quickly, which isn't normally possible.

Same concept, your example just has a little more depth to it.

Yeah, more or less, it's just meant to help people find good fits for their team quickly, so it's purely informational.
