To Riot, Will Runes still be strategic?

Some may disagree with me on this, but personally I thought runes were very fun, and interesting to plan out. Sure the IP was a pain in the ass...okay a huge pain in the ass..

BUT!

To me it was super fun to have all these different runes, and set up combination, to plan out every season what the most effective runes would be. Hell I find it enjoyable just to go to my rune pages, examine them and check if their is a more optimal combination even though I probably already have it to the best performance it could be.

To me masteries were always boring for they were always so easy to figure out, runes always had a sense of complexity to it. However when I saw the video it looked like you were completely removing runes and simply buffing masteries. I really hope this is not the case for frankly the mastery system is pretty simple to figure out, even key stones are easy to figure out.

That being said, I am excited for the new system but I hope you guys don't dumb it down to much.

The teasers they have out so far does give the impression that it will be dumbed down a little bit. Too early to say though.

I can agree to this. the appeal of runes has always been the more hands on degree of control and mixing/matching you did with them. where Masteries was figuring out the most optimal tree for you, Runes was about mixing and matching combinations of things. From the looks of things tho, ti seems they will be retaining this aspect, as you pick between every rune available to you as opposed to picking most of your Masteries based on the Keystone at the bottom of the tree you want to get.

Nah people will rush the most OP runes everytime and they'll be unbalanced and broken for over a year.

Just like when they reworked masteries and everyone rushed the same capstone mastery cough 10xThunderlords cough

Yea but they fixed that tho? I mean stormraiders is SUPER popular in high elo, and windspeakers is super used as well, even for mid lane shielders sometimes. after the balance changes thunderlords is for champs it feels good on, not for everyone.

From what i see runes will be quite strategic. sure there are some "cookie cutter" runes for certain champs (i mean if your playing karthus, you'll probably wanna "ulti more"...), but a lot of them are være strategic. for example the gain tenacity on take downs is SUPER useful, but only into hard cc amirite? while in other instances other runes are definately better.
