This is how LP should be balanced with AFKs.

If someone goes AFK on a team and they lose, the AFK should lose the full amount of LP, the winners should only gain 1/2 LP and the losers should lose 1/2 LP as well. The reason for this is because, even though it's a 4v5, it's STILL winnable and a team winning against a 4v5 does not deserve to gain as much IP as well.

Now if the team with the AFK wins, then they should receive 1.5x LP because that team WORKED their ass off for it, and they deserve it dammit. The AFK on that winning team should will not gain any LP. However, if this happens within a certain timeframe, he will lose the base amount of LP(without the 1.5x multiplier) that team gained,. It's a win-win for everyone.

If this AFK, rage quits multiple times within a certain timeframe, he will lose 2x the amount of LP if his team lost. I understand that some people have connection issues or have a life. If you know that you have shitty internet or that you have a job that requires you to be on call, it's simple, don't play ranked. Do not ruin your team's chance of winning just because you wanted to see if you can win with 900 ping and disconnecting all the time.

Winning team should always get full normal LP.

If someone leaves the game and doesn't come back or AFK's for 5+ minutes that person should lose depending on the division 20-100LP while their teammates that stayed lose 0-5LP.

How are you quantifying any of this? What's your definition of an AFK?

Clint Orris1 votes

Exactly like it is in the system. I think it's after 5 minutes of inactivity the system will consider you an AFK.

You didn't answer my question. 5 minutes of inactivity, when? At the start they still might connect, but will be behind.
Someone could disconnect and come back and help the team win, under your suggestion, they still get punished. So I DC, why go back? Out of sheer nobility? There's no incentive here to come back if I DC.

If you leave and reconnect(due to internet trouble) that's completely fine. I'll give you examples.

0:00 - Never connects.............10:00 - connects and plays until the game finishes. Good

0:00 - Connects............6:15 - disconnects..............11:05 connects and plays until the end. Good

0:00 Connects..................20:00 tries to ff at 20, vote fails and rage quits. After 5 minute of inactivity the system will consider him an AFK. If he comes back, good. If he doesn't then he will be considered as an AFK.

Tell us more about this software you designed that can distinguish between someone having an internet failure and someone snapping their laptop shut?

Clint Orris1 votes

Then talk to riot about that because this is exactly how their system works currently. Their system does not give two shits if your internet suddenly broke or if someone quits. At the end of the match they are both considered a "leave".

Tell me the last time when your power went out, the game ends on a loss while you were afk for 5+ minutes and you see a "Loss forgiven" on your math history.

The winning team should get the same lp regardless of whether or not the other team has an afk. Not fair to punish them for someone being stupid on the other team.

Clint Orris1 votes

It's not punishing them. It's justice. How do you feel when you going against a really good team and you guys aren't really winning, and half way through the game their tank rages and leaves. Then your team proceed to out duel them and win. Do you think you deserve full LP for that?

1st, people don't rage quit on the winning team and if they did their teammates probably flamed and I wouldn't feel sorry for them anyway. I've only been in one game that I can remember where that happened and it wasn't ranked. 2nd If I made someone rage quite on the other team for winning hard I shouldn't be punished with 1/2 lp. I agree you shouldn't lose full lp if someone on your team leaves and that that individual should lose extra just not fair for the other team to only get 1/2 the reward for a full game. On that note, if the player never connected and the game ended in under 20 i wouldn't care about the 1/2 lp. It's just for full games that are 20+ min that I feel the winning team shouldn't be penalized.

I don't think you've thought this through.

If someone goes AFK on a team and they lose, the AFK should lose the full amount of LP, the winners should only gain 1/2 LP and the losers should lose 1/2 LP as well.

So, you're winning a game convincingly. It's at 20 minutes and you're pushing the mid inhib. The opposing team tries to surrender and fails the vote. A player on the opposing team then goes AFK, and you wrap up the game 10 minutes later.

In this story, why should you get any less LP than if that player stayed in the game? You won it fairly.

If this AFK, rage quits within a certain timeframe, he will lose 2x the amount of LP if his team lost.

It's a close game and you're 45 minutes in, dancing around baron. A player lags out. The opposing team pounces on him, makes the kill, takes the baron, and pushes for the gg.

Feels pretty awful to award that guy twice the LP loss for something that probably wasn't intentional.

I agree with your first comment.

"If this AFK, rage quits within a certain timeframe, he will lose 2x the amount of LP if his team lost."

With the "certain timeframe" I was talking about, being considered afk let's say...5 times from 5 different games within 48 hours.

Ok, I totally misunderstood =D

At that point, shouldn't we be talking about bans, or at least bans from ranked play, rather than discussing how much LP the guy should lose?

bad arcade kitty1 votes

no, it would mess the whole system

lp lose and gain for those who didn't afk should be the same, but, the afker should always get a loss even if his team won and also an additional minor lp penalty, -10lp or so, i.e. for instance -20lp for the loss and -10lp for being afk, -30lp overall

games with an afker at 1st shouldn';t even start and the afker should get the dodge penalty i.e. -3 or -10lp
