Patch 8.1: Blaze Damage per stack increased to 4% of target's maximum health from 2%.

Its even worse when you consider his passive actually can stack 3 times, so from 6% total it goes to 12%.

Absurd.

Kídá2 votes

Each stack refreshes the duration, it doesn't add to it so 12% would be only if he waits for each stack to end and then applying the next one which he doesn't do.

King Braum4 votes

tbh, it doesnt matter either way since his burst is easy to hit and on a fairly short cooldown.

Sir Rouge2 votes

Actually (just checked in practice tool), it refreshes the duration AND adds another 4% tick. So one stack is 4%, two stacks is two times 4%, and three stacks three times 4%. They act as seperate max health ticks. For example, at two stacks, it's 2 seperate ticks of 4% max health, rather than on tick of 8% max health.

Troll for Trump11 votes

Nope, not until they make him viable in mid again

Kídá8 votes

As a mid brand main, you have my upvote

Danjeng7 votes

Same. As a Brand mid player I hope they adjust his power rather just nerfing him flat out and balancing him as a support.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Nerf base damage, buff ratios?

My Waifu Vanilla3 votes

Won't work. Will just shove him even further in support position. The problem with Brand mid is he runs out of mana and can't waveclear. His laning is garbage and that is why he isn't played there. How would nerfing his lane even further push him to go mid?

Bob the Toastr1 votes

Yeah. They should probably increase his mana cost or cooldown on his W and then give him some sort of mana or cooldown refund for killing minions with it. Would help him lane and reduce his power as support.

My Waifu Vanilla2 votes

Adding a mana refund on W will do nothing. The problem with Brand is until an item and a half it will ALWAYS take Brand AT LEAST 2 abilities to ever kill casters while being incredibly short ranged.

Another point is that even IF they buff him to help him lane in a farming position he's.....still going to go bot lane except he is going to be in the carry role instead of support which he is ALREADY doing in 7% of the games he is in and that number would only grow.

Somebody Love Me1 votes

With the way Brand's kit is, allowing him to clear with one ability would make him rather uninteractive. Similar to how Lux was never allowed to be able to oneshot minions with just E

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

I'm just saying that adding a mana refund on W would do nothing. It would have to be on E. The problem with that however is after Ludens you DO kill casters with W meaning you lose out on the mana refund at basically any stage AFTER laning phase which is where mages tend to start running out of mana nowadays as well. The only OTHER solution is to put it on Blaze itself, but that is arguably too universal and could have other problems associated with it. Regardless my point still stands that as long as Brand's overall kit remains the same he isn't leaving bot lane. He simply doesn't have an ultimate in mid unless he gets ganked or the enemy is dumb enough to sit in the creep wave which is ALREADY a bad idea because of a W.

Somebody Love Me1 votes

Fair point. As for the ult in mid situation, it's uh....good against LB at least lmao

Attticus Finch1 votes

The ONLY way Brand will ever be viable mid is by making his Q go through the minion wave. Is that really what you want?

Troll for Trump1 votes

Absolutely not. At one point he was a solid mid laner even though his Q didn't pass through minions. That was a long time ago. Even then he was beginning to show his age with mobility creep.

Then people began playing him support after it popped up in LCS. There was a mage support meta. Riot reworked him, but they offed a lot of his lane bully potential in favor of teamfight burst. That just grounded his support playstyle even more. Recently, with the buff to his per stack dmg, they made his mid lane a big stronger, but, because he still largely retains his kit from the past (outside of passive change) he still can't keep up with the mobility creep.

To make him a mid laner, they probably need to rework him. The W (despite it being infamous in bot lane) and Q telegraph (Q especially; slow af for a skillshot) aren't enough for today's standards. However, he has enough power in his kit that he would be really, really low on the rework priority list

My Waifu Vanilla2 votes

I checked a bunch skillshots in the game and Brand Q was the fastest skillshot I could personally find. It's clocking in at 1550 which is 250 units/sec faster than Nidalee Spear. It's almost double the speed of Zed shuriken.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Seems weird that there's nothing for projectile speed. For some champs it's not even listed, idk.

There's a couple of things faster than Brand's Q, but the point is that he's super dependent on landing a skillshot that champs can easily dodge his W is also delayed, and his E is crap.

Faster projectiles: Lee Q, Ahri Q, Mumu Q, Corki R, Mundo Q, Elise E

Because he is a squishy, non mobile, skill shot reliant, no sustain of any kind burst caster. He gets stupid amounts of damage because that is literally all he has. He doesn't get to skitter around the battlefield like Ahri, all his damage is upfront and no constant damage like Vlad or Swain, he is skillshot reliant and no, just because two of his abilities are point and click doesn't mean he isn't, every Brand knows that if you don't land your pillar, you are HEAVILY hampering your DPS, and also squishy. He has clear defined flaws that showcase why he has the upsides he has.

Because he has no mobility, no sustain, is squishy, is skillshot reliant, and a burst caster. If you want to lower his damage, you need to give him one of these to compensate.

Yeah, and overall it would be a nerf? I dont understand whats so hard for people to understand. He's really poorly designed to be purely damage and very little else, which makes for an unhealthy champ, especially in a meta everyone is trying to pick the highest damage champs. Take away his damage and sure, give him something else, but regardless of what you give him in return, its gonna be a nerf, soooooo yeah, I still dont understand what's so hard to understand about him needing a nerf.

Because nerfing simply for the sake of nerfing him is dumb? People haven't even suggested any kind of buff to him either, have you seen a single compensation at all in this post, because I certainly haven't.

Side note, why is he poorly designed, why is just innately doing damage poorly designed, that is literally every assassin.

Teriyaki Bukkake1 votes

Ok so it's obvious that he needs a nerf, no one has suggested a compensation in this thread, but the first step is getting riot to acknowledge that he needs a nerf. So that's step one at the moment.

Secondly, there was a post on the boards today: (https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/81zTAxWE-the-boards-sucks-at-comparing-champions) That highlighted people like you who make bad comparisons, clearly not understanding the different roles/designs/archetypes and the fact that not everything can be put side by side for a point of reference. Comparing Brand to assassins is apples and oranges.

Why he is poorly designed is because he gets a lot of extra damage simply because he landed abilities, which is a pretty poor justification for the amount of damage that he deals. With his passive, he's easily able to deal 24% of your hp in magic damage for free; no scaling, no ap, just pure and free base damage because you land a combo at level 3, if you don't count the flat damage those abilities do with their individual scalings. Now of course, other champions have %hp damage, but they usually have it because it doesn't scale, and it's on a champion who doesn't build damage. When it does scale, and to a very high degree like brand, it's usually single target, not AoE, and probably has another condition, like being in melee range for Elises venomous bite, or having to build crit to maximise/get the full potential output of kindreds mounting dread.

Take a look at this: (http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Health) and scroll down to the list of "Scaling from enemy health", and one thing you'll notice is that it's very rare for a champion to have %hp damage like brands passive. The only other abilities comparable to brands passive are Gnars "Hyper" passive and Kalistas "Sentinal" passive, both of which are in no way even close to the level or potential of damage from brands "blaze", and have pretty reasonable constraints tied to them. It is entirely his passive, blaze, which is the issue, as we can see almost every thread that complains about brand doing to much damage, focusing on this specific aspect of brands kit, which was recently buffed to deal double the damage. (2% max hp to 4% max hp)

Brand is super viable early, and scales really well, while having great teamfighting ability: the buff to his innate passive, while it had good intentions, really makes for an unbalanced amount of damage.

Am I here to suggest what happens once he receives a nerf? Clearly not. But I believe it's pretty clear that he is in need of a nerf.

Ok so it's obvious that he needs a nerf, no one has suggested a compensation in this thread, but the first step is getting riot to acknowledge that he needs a nerf. So that's step one at the moment.

Why does he need a nerf, he has sat at this spot for years, not even being considered a viable mid and now that he is finally getting a leg up as the meta shifts to be more favorable for him, he needs a nerf?

Secondly, there was a post on the boards today: (https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/81zTAxWE-the-boards-sucks-at-comparing-champions) That highlighted people like you who make bad comparisons, clearly not understanding the different roles/designs/archetypes and the fact that not everything can be put side by side for a point of reference.

You mean like the people in this post who compared Lux to Brand asking why his pillar is better but utterly ignored the fact that Lux's has more range, more effective radius and nearly as much damage?

Comparing Brand to assassins is apples and oranges.

But you are the one who is saying that he needs a nerf simply because his damage is too high or just because he does only damage when that is literally all assassins do, I want to know why it is an argument for Brand but not for assassins?

Why he is poorly designed is because he gets a lot of extra damage simply because he landed abilities, which is a pretty poor justification for the amount of damage that he deals.

Which he actively has to land, what are you saying here that can't be said about a pleothora of other champion passives, Riven, Akali, new Aatrox, Talon, Zed, the list goes on. Yes, it does damage, what is your point?

With his passive, he's easily able to deal 24% of your hp in magic damage for free; no scaling, no ap, just pure and free base damage because you land a combo at level 1, if you don't count the flat damage those abilities do with their individual scalings.

This is outright false. He can't do that at level 1, and seeing as how he has to LAND abilities, I don't see how that is for free. Each ability burns for 4% that can stack up to three times meaning he would have to hit three spells. A Brand is never going to start with their point and click ability, it is also one of the last things they level and if they just hard cast it first, they are heavily hampering their damage. They have to land their skillshot pillar, then skillshot sear before landing their point and click to actually and actively do the most damage possible.

Now of course, other champions have %hp damage, but they usually have it because it doesn't scale, and it's on a champion who doesn't build damage.

Aatrox, Eve, Fiora, Jayce, Kog Maw, Mordekaiser, Pantheon, Shyvana, Urgot, Varus, Vayne, Vi, Warwick and Zed all have scaling damage AND build damage, and this is only the list of champions that build damage.

When it does scale, and to a very high degree like brand, it's usually single target, not AoE, and probably has another condition, like being in melee range for Elises venomous bite, or having to build crit to maximise/get the full potential output of kindreds mounting dread.

Indeed, and in turn, said champions such as Elise also have mobility and escapes, or utility to provide to the team like in the case of Kindred.

And unlike them, Brand has no escapes, no mobility, and subpar amounts of utility compared the things they do have. You can't compare JUST passives, that isn't how champion balance works, you have to look at everything, HELL, that post you linked above was talking about that. If you break this game into just numbers you will see some really stupid things that don't make any sense at all until you compare more then just the numbers.

It is entirely his passive, blaze, which is the issue, as we can see almost every thread that complains about brand doing to much damage, focusing on this specific aspect of brands kit, which was recently buffed to deal double the damage. (2% max hp to 4% max hp)

Am I here to suggest what happens once he receives a nerf? Clearly not. But I believe it's pretty clear that he is in need of a nerf.

No, it isn't really clear, it isn't clear why a mage whose only thing is just damage, not team utility like Orianna or A Sol, a squishy mage without mobility, sustain, tankiness or escapes should lose the only niche he has. HELL, he still doesn't even see play mid STILL, and is still considered a bot laner.

Teriyaki Bukkake1 votes
  1. making something viable is not justification for it being unbalanced

  2. Uhhh... what? I'm going to ignore that because not only did I not mention that but, I don't think the two are comparable so... yeah

  3. Because assassins have a completely different playstyle, build, and role in the game. They also have completely different powerspikes, ability sets, and skill levels. Usually when you talk about balance in a game, there are examples that you can use as a metaphorical seesaw to represent how underpowered or how overpowered a certain thing is. Here, you are trying to use something that doesn't belong on the seesaw as a means to balance the game, which results in a false representation of the state of the game and its mechanics and whatnot. Why is this? Because assassins are meant to aim a singular target on the enemy team with a high risk/high reward gameplay: if you kill your target as an assassin, then your team will most likely have an overpowering lead in a fight. Brand on the other hand excels at teamfighting due to his AoE damage potential. Ironically, this is actually mentioned in the "countering" part of brands strategy on the wiki: "Assassins like Fizz, LeBlanc, Zed, and Talon are the most reliable way to get rid of Brand. However, they tend to have poor teamfighting presence, while Brand excels at teamfighting, especially if he gets protection from his allies." I gave you a much more applicable and representable example to show how Brands passive damage is too high ("The only other abilities comparable to brands passive are Gnars "Hyper" passive and Kalistas "Sentinal" passive...") as these are both passive abilities that deal % max hp damage. An assassin is an entire set of abilities, whereas brand passive is one ability, and so I compared it to other singular abilities that perform roughly the same function: to deal % max hp damage. That's why an assassin is too apples and oranges here as a point of debate, because the focus is on % max hp damage.

  4. Extra damage because you land your abilities is fine; having brands damage when you land abilities is a bit over the top. Not to be rude, but you really aren't comprehending what I'm saying at all. "Why he is poorly designed is because he gets a lot of extra damage simply because he landed abilities, which is a pretty poor justification for the amount of damage that he deals." Clearly stated that the amount of damage he can apply for landing abilities is too high, not that dealing damage because you land your abilities is dumb.

  5. "dealing 4% of their maximum health as magic damage over 4 seconds, stacking up to 3 times, for a maximum of 12% of their maximum health over the duration"

"All enemies struck are dealt 12% - 16% (based on level) 「 (+ 1.5% per 100 AP) 」 of their maximum health as magic damage" The bare minimum for a 3 ability combo at level 3 from his passive is 24% max hp in magic damage. Me typing the wrong number there, sorry. Point remains.

  1. Again that's me not typing correctly. I'm meant to say: Now of course, other champions have >max< %hp damage, but they usually have it because it doesn't scale, OR it's on a champion who doesn't build lots of damage." Now of course there are exceptions to what I have stated: Fiora, Jayce, Urgot if you build him for damage, zed, vayne, Rhaast, Vi and aatrox. But even then none of the base damages for the % max hp abilities are as high as brands base damage on his passive. Which is what I'm trying to point out here. It is a really high base damage ability, let alone a passive ability.

  2. Ok so im going to say this now, and im not going to repeat it. I think Brand should have a revert of his passive back to 2%, but I think he should have some work done to put him back into solo laning, whatever that may be. I understand that "Oh but damage is all he has!" but that's exactly the issue. He has too much of it, and too much of it in his passive instead of his other abilities, and he has too little of anything else. But we can't give him anything else before we give him a nerf, otherwise he's just going to be crazy powerful. So give him a nerf, take away from his passive, and give back to the rest of his kit, thus giving back his laning potential.

  1. making something viable is not justification for it being unbalanced

His own viability didn't change, ADCs just got nerfed.

  1. Because assassins have a completely different playstyle, build, and role in the game. They also have completely different powerspikes, ability sets, and skill levels. You aren't taking everything into consideration though, you are JUST looking at his passive then trying to justify another champion's kit as a whole, that isn't how it works. Yes, on a cut and dry comparison like that, yeah, he gets way too much damage, but there is more to consider then that. He is a great damage dealing teamfighter not just because of his passive, but because of just how much AoE damage he has, but loses SO many tools because of it that other champions do have.

What I don't get is why this is ok for other champion whose passive gives them extra damage, some of which is maximum health damage mind you just like Brand's, but it isn't ok on Brand.

  1. Again that's me not typing correctly. I'm meant to say: Now of course, other champions have >max< %hp damage, but they usually have it because it doesn't scale, OR it's on a champion who doesn't build lots of damage." It is a really high base damage ability, let alone a passive ability.

Because they have other tools in their kit to make it so that if they also had that amount of damage, it would be broken. Unlike Fiora, Brand gets no sustain and no mobility, unlike Jayce, he gets no mobility and has less range, unlike Urgot, he gets no protection and no mobility, the list goes on. Their damage is LESS because they instead have more elsewhere in their kit.

  1. Ok so im going to say this now, and im not going to repeat it. I think Brand should have a revert of his passive back to 2%, but I think he should have some work done to put him back into solo laning, whatever that may be. Then say that, no one else in this post is saying that, people are just saying "oh his damage is too high." without considering WHY his damage gets to be so high, what he is losing to have such high damage. I'm fine with his passive getting nerfed, but if they do, they HAVE to compensate him.

All I ask is that they revert his damage back to 2%

I know he needs buffs, but those buffs won't put him back to mid lane. He needs mana efficiency. Better waveclear. Make E do bonus damage to burning minions or something. Increase his passive mana refund. So something. Buff anything but his damage/rotations.

Actually, I'd be down if they nerfed his base damage and buffed his scalings so that his support base damage wouldn't be so oppressive in lane. And we all know he's capable of winning a whole team fight with the press of a button.

All I ask is that they revert his damage back to 2%

That would only force him to stay on bot, since he would've too little damage for mid, but lets move on.

I know he needs buffs, but those buffs won't put him back to mid lane. He needs mana efficiency. Better waveclear. Make E do bonus damage to burning minions or something. Increase his passive mana refund. So something. Buff anything but his damage/rotations.

Everything you mentioned, besided bonus dmg on creeps would only favor support Brand and his opressivness.

Actually, I'd be down if they nerfed his base damage and buffed his scalings so that his support base damage wouldn't be so oppressive in lane. And we all know he's capable of winning a whole team fight with the press of a button.

Try to play brand against an assassin in lane with your suggestions. What would happen is that he gets shit on by champs like LB and Zed because they have mobility and okay-ish waveclear, you're just suggeting another Malzahar with better ult. Do you really think people would like to play something like that? If you already aim of reducing his opressivness, you might aswell just reduce the range of W, increase the mana cost of it, but reduce the cooldown.

Somebody Love Me2 votes

The first part is debatable

The second part is completely tailored to mid Brand; E doing bonus to ablaze minions makes it easier to waveclear, which support Brand isn't focused on. Passive mana refund is also focused on mid Brand because it only applies when he kills a minion that's burning, which support Brand gets punished for (Spellthief tribute lockout).

Also assassins are supposed to counter Brand. We don't want him to be the best mage mid lane. We want him to be played there primarily. In other words, get him out of bot lane.

Lowering his damage and increasing scalings will weaken his early power because his base damage won't be as crazy. He won't be as oppressive as a support in lane because his damage won't be as high early. This will require him to build more AP to do damage. To get that AP, he needs gold. To get the gold, he needs to go into a carry position (aka mid lane) and farm.

Of course this whole fiesta meta also means he can be played in place of an ADC no matter what they do to him.

Brand's whole thing is his place as an AOE burst mage (that also is capable of melting tanks with %hp damage). He can win teamfights with one well placed ult, and some other spells thrown in. That's what he has over Malzahar, who's all about holding down one priority target.

Well put

Refer to my respone to Jamaree.

Pretty self explanatory

How does he "destroy everything" when he has a negative win rate against almost every poke mage in the game?

You mean "he destroys every tank" right? Because he's helpless against any champion that can trade through minions.

Yeah that 50.21% winrate at 6% pickrate as a support is insane right.

Oh and lets not forget his 45.7% winrate mid.

Yeah, needs heavy nerfs for sure.

True. If i am playing JG i try to get the brand killed a couple times early. It's not hard.

Skill shot reliant lmao Braindead press R stupid AOE champ lmao. "Support" Better NERF Azir

As a mage-main, his W needs some tuning down. Damage on it are way too high even if he doesn't use any other skill to "enhance" it. Lux already got her E area "reduced", I wouldn't mind having the same happening to Brand because in laning phase it's near impossible dodging it

lol did u say brand w is impossible to dodge
