Blade of the Ruined King Wukong (Revised)
I blame the Blukong build devised by Instalok, for they had the item on him in their video and build.
Many of you might've seen my shit about this for quite a while, and I've played enough games to explain a few more things.
However, there is some merit to this. People who've seen my match history can easily tell that my damage on
with
built, and normally my damage amount matches-up-to and/or exceeds the carry of my team.
Of course,
synergizes VERY WELL with both Wukong's Nimbus Strike (E; an attack speed steroid) and Crushing Blow (Q; an auto-attack buff for your next auto that also resets your timer), akin to more simple versions of both
's E and Q respectively.
It's another reason why
can easily abuse it very hard as well with his W, Ruthless Predator.
But alas. It's basically a synergy between that item, those two abilities, and Fervor of Battle; the very latter mastery was the thing that was needed to push it into being very viable.
Of course, the buffs provided to
's AD has made it even better on him since.
What does it provide him?
Pros:
-
Very powerful 1 v 1 potential and a very smooth-animated E-auto-Q combo and vice versa for both applying Fervor stacks and assassinating squishies, which in turn can cover up Wukong's weaknesses to tanks.
-
This is especially overkill if you've both finished your lethality item and completed
. This adds to A LOT of defensive-bypassing damage, akin to how the recent
builds work (only you build lethality instead of crit). -
Very easy last hitting (especially if rushed early game on top of other minor damage items).
-
Fast attack speed procs via landing E on nearby targets in order to spam fast autos + Q in order to take objectives fast, such as hitting minions near tower and/or epic monsters.
-
The slow active can immensely help out with either damage, chasing or kiting.
-
Building this will always ensure Wukong has sustain somewhere in his setup.
-
The overall synergy between his Q's shred, E steroid,
's HP damage, completed lethality item,
and Fervor makes Wukong's damage very lasting as his spells don't have too high of a cooldown, and that Fervor stacks don't fade away that soon.
Cons:
-
Not too much AD, which may hurt the overall damage of his ult without enough Fervor stacks (or with Thunderlord's Decree not equipped).
-
No wave clear which would normally be provided by
/
. However,
can easily fit in as a final item in your build if you did bother to build
depending on how you want to build Wukong for your team around late game. -
This in turn, may limit his overall AoE damage.
-
If you suck at positioning with Wukong in teamfights, you might get kited hard before you can easily smash away at your target (especially if you love and are VERY used to something like Stormraider's Surge). Because of this, you may have to try out something like a movement speed rune page setup.
-
NOT recommended for those who love to run Thunderlord's and/or are fearful of staying in sustained combat with Wukong. Wukong is indeed an AD caster who relies on spells for his damage, but again, he still has an attack speed steroid and on-hit procing reset which is why this overall build synergy is very strong.
-
Unlike something such as
, BotRK doesn't provide mana and/or extra move speed as well as a lack of tankiness; the HP damage from
also doesn't directly impact towers unlike the Spellblade/Sheen passive.
So....how do build him like so with this unlikely item?
-
First off, DO NOT GO ATTACK SPEED RUNES ON HIM! (Not even the Fury Mastery in the Ferocity Tree! Take Sorcery!) Build him like you normally would an AD caster via both reds/marks and quints being either:
-
Flat AD/scaling AD + lethality
-
All Flat AD/all scaling AD (HIGHLY Recommended; it provides much higher damage output overall)
-
Yellows (seals) and blues (glyphs) can be what you please depending on the situation and how you run things in certain matchups and/or roles as usual. Because of this,
is going to be THE ONLY OTHER SOURCE OF ATTACK SPEED you will have on him. -
Normally in the early game, it's wise just to rush something like a
first to sit on (or if you REALLY want to finish it into a
,
or
). Then you build your
right after. As soon as the
is built, Wukong becomes VERY difficult to 1 v 1 thanks to that power spike. BUILD
FIRST! DO NOT WASTE ITEM SPACES FOR
UNTIL YOU CAN AFFORD A
! Wukong can easily use the slow and his E steroid should be enough. -
Normally how you duel people is you either start with an auto to proc one Fervor stack, then you Q them and then E to them to smack them away; or you do E-auto-Q combo (or do a few autos first before the Q). Be sure to watch and know of the enemy laner's cooldowns so you can bum rush him when he/she's exhausted their abilities. Wukong to this day doesn't have that good of a mana pool, so don't spam spells too recklessly.
-
On that note, it's wise that during a fight if you know your damage potential and/or limits with Wukong, you can sneak just a few autos on someone first before unleashing your spells empowered by enough Fervor stacks.
-
However,
has to be finished for sure due to Wukong's lack of sustain in lane and he might not do very much in matchups like vs.
since that champion already has on-hit HP damage in his W (which also is an attack speed steroid). Difficult matchups should often require you to farm and survive the laning phase first (making smart trades and last hits with an item like
equipped can help make your overall cs better so you can get your item power spike ASAP). -
Depending on how the game goes, it's up to you on how you want to build the monkey; Wukong's build paths aren't that fleshed out due to him being fairly outdated nowadays so it's very hard to grasp. Normally I would try to rush a
as soon as possible (if I'm sitting on a
+
), but in some games it can be wise the finish the aforementioned
as soon as possible since it only gives 25 AD on top of just 10 lethality compared to 60/65/55 AD + 15 lethality (
,
and
respectively). -
In the late game, not even squishy champions can escape from his damage; Wukong's overall build with this setup WILL take off chucks of their HP even if
is meant to be a tank-killing item just because his overall kit just synergizes so well with it. And unlike other AD casters, Wukong has an attack speed steroid.
