Can someone help me out with Ryze

I want to know what the options are. Nothing in depth, just a little "maybe this, no to that, never this" type thing.

I love support but I'm bored of my options and I'd really love to play Ryze. I want this because I like casters, he seems to have some nice options, and having never played him, i'd like to get the general opinion of it.

He's due for a rework so hopefully he becomes slightly more support friendly, but what's the over under on Ryze in the bot lane?
