Malzahar needs a buff

I quit playing Malzahar a long time ago because of the imbalance i saw in non-mobile mages and mobile mages. Why pick Malz when i can be LeBlanc or Katarina? Yes i have more utility but they have more damage, so much more that it overshadows what makes Malzahar unique.

Today i tried to play him again, just for fun, but i ended up sad again. Brand and Malzahar versus Teemo and Soraka, well Soraka was able to out heal both our damage. So we tried to focus her but while Brand was laying down some serious DPS i couldnt keep up my end, my damage never seemed to be enough (her heal is more then enough for my E and my Q). Later on i tried fighting a Nasus who was just above 50% of his life, I hit him with Q so he couldnt Ult, put on my E, threw down W below him, Ulted him, and for good measure i Ignited. He would have died but Soraka ran by and healed him once which saved him. I should have had more then enough damage to kill him even with the raka heals (specially since he was ignited) but he survived, barely but still.

Everyone agreed that Malz was incredibly underpowered and needed buffs, but honestly i dont think you need to do all that much to him. His Q's hitbox is a bit wonky and unreliable, sometimes huge sometimes small (giggity). It could also be a bit more rewarding for actually landing it but i never have all that much of an issue landing it. His W is almost completely unreliable as a damage source as they need to stand in it, which they do not. A solution would be to make them take more damage up front or increase its radius? idk what to do with this one. His E is a good ability and i would hate to see it changed significantly, so maybe take some of its late game power and put it into its early game power and fix its bounce, the damn thing has the most random distances... His ult is pretty crazy in how many weaknesses it has, first off i think the ult should be instant, there is way too much time before it hits, Wukong could clone right when i ulted and it would just auto to his decoy which sucked. Its range is really freaking small too which is kind of counter productive to his play style. Its damage by itself isnt all that great early game as far as immobile mage ults go, specially since he is apparently suppose to naturally deal more damage being immobile and having high mana costs. Also it should do ramping damage, dealing more damage the longer they are ulted towards the end it should have like a mini explosion of damage. Idk im just typing whatever comes into my mind on the spot... Overall his mana costs are waaaaaay too high and his cooldowns are incredibly long as well, i see no reason for him to be outclassed in damage by someone like Katarina while still having high cool downs and ridiculous mana costs. He needs a buff or a tiny tiny rework (his abilities are all unique and i would really hate to see any of them go except for his W).

I dont know how to do it, but Malzahar definitely needs some attention. I don't want a rework because i like his abilities (even his W) but something needs to be done. You helped Darius and Garen become useful (Garen is considered OP now! Like what?!?!), now please help Malzahar.

A lot of Malzahar's strengths lie in using his Dots to farm and keeping the enemy laner away from the wave for fear of taking TonsOfDamage. As for the Soraka, that's just what she does. Another trick to him is being able to ignite, W, E, Q, and R them in very quick succession, making it so that they take Deadly amounts of damage.

Yea i was a bit moody when i posted that, Malzahar does do a lot of damage and i love his play style. Im just a bit sick with the imbalance of power, he has all the drawbacks of an immobile mage but non of the benefits. They said immobile mages were suppose to have more damage and utility and high mana costs meant more damage and utility. Yet i see all these mobile mages and champions dealing far more damage with better utility.

Until he loses his click suppress ult, Malz should not be getting buffs.

Unless your jungler is nearby/camping, Malz easily wins almost any 1v1 by virtue of click supress (and comboing absurdly well with his kit.)

anywho, we live in a "mobile" meta, unless you have some kind of extra mobility/wall jumping, you are most likely to be forgotten

A lot of the highest win-rate champions don't have mobility, so not even true.

Also while you spent that struggled 1250g on QSS (since unless you can push back, malz will generally shove you under turret and long range poke you under it.) he bought more damage items. Not to mention unless you have a good team, you'll basically have 5 slots to do damage with since QSS does not have an AP option (and zhonya's won't work well for it.)

Besides, doesn't justify him having a free 1v1 kill. It needs more counterplay than just buying an item (that neither player will honestly appreciate.)

unless you are losing hard you dont need QSS, if you do need it then you still win because without his ult he cant kill you easily, plus he just blew a ton of mana.

Malzahar's Ult has more weaknesses then you would think.
First off its range is lower then expected, so he does need to get close to use it. If you are under turret, he will need to take turret shots to Ult you. Its also easily stopped by CC, other then slows and roots of course, even ones cast at the same time or slightly after he casts his. The animation for the Ult gives just enough time for one to cast a stun or silence to cancel it. Ive been stopped by Pantheons who clearly jump after my ult has attached to them and yet they still stun and stop me. Ive had it where a Wukong would decoy right when he saw me ult and it would attach to his decoy instead, like i mentioned in my post. While its mana cost isnt anything special, his other mana costs are incredibly high and believe it or not Malz can not actually 100-0 unless he is very far ahead of you. So he requires poke to get you low, which costs mana so he uses his E to clear waves, which pushes the lane and most of the time gets him ganked or pushes his opponent out of his range. Most of the time i need to wait for them to make a move before i am sure i can kill them, if i am that far ahead i can kill them they will not attack me most likely.
Also "Unless your jungler is nearby/camping" this shouldnt be a problem, if your mid is fighting a Malzahar your Jungler should always be near Mid. He has no mobility, no escape, no peel, and unless he is fed he doesnt have the capabilities to kill 2 people so he is either a free kill or you get his flash.

But i agree i think Malz can not be buffed because of his Suppress, not because it is too strong but because people do not understand its weaknesses. They fear it for no reason, Katarina's ult does twice the damage to 3 people but it doesnt suppress you so thats ok? Malzahar's ult should do far more damage but not just flat damage it needs something different.

Several Seasons ago Malzhazar was nerfed unfairly and I am still mad about it.

Malz needs to be able to 1 shot people by catching people inside his pool with his ultimate, whille his space AIDS and ignite are on them but they nerfed it ages and ages ago so that he couldn't do that.

I think you are playing him wrong. With 200+ ap and less than that sometimes, you can 100-0 someone with all your spells

Stephenizgod1 votes

I have only been able to 100-0 someone when im fed, if im even or underfed my damage is pretty low except on tanks oddly enough.

I wouldn't mind seeing his Ult turned into a stun.

He gets a peel for himself and an easier way to set up his combo. Opponents get to counter build with Mercs or run Cleanse. Seems like a win-win to me.

Maybe something like...

Void Eruption: Malzahar creates a Void Portal within his foe, causing a fully evolved Voidling to burst out of them, dealing damage and stunning them.

No?

Just spawns a Grown, Frenzied Voidling that sticks around for 21 seconds and then dies like all the other Voidlings his Innate spawns. Still a single target nuke that hurts a lot, just gains the option to counter-pick Cleanse or run Mercs to reduce the stun duration.
